Super chilerl by FERNANDO G

Comments: After looking around for chiller, I decide to go for the JBJ Artica 1/10 and I’m sure I did the right thing. I was having a lot of problems with my Red Sea Max 130D and a very high temp. I could not bring it down from 85F and just running the lights for 5 hrs. for now. Once the chiller was installed and running within 30 minutes the tank was at 77F right where I want it. I have it running with a Maxi jet 1200 pump and it's doing the job. It has been a week and the chiller just run for 20 minutes approximately every 2 hrs. during the day and you can’t hear it work at all. The hood fans and the skimmer are louder. This is an excellent unit. I can't ask for more.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: These are the quietest chillers I have seen / heard. you can barely hear it while it is chilling. They are easy to setup and connect. The "on top" connections are much appreciated for maintenance and ease working with the chiller when needed. I would not consider another product.

Good Quiet 1/15 HP Chiller by Modit
Experience Level: Intermediate
Posted on 10/1/2009 from NEWBURY PARK, CA UNITED STATES
Comments: I purchased the JBJ 1/15 hp chiller to replace my Current USA 1/15hp chiller that died after a year. I am very pleased with the JBJ chiller. Pros: ~ +/-1 degree thermostat ~ Temperature calibration ~ easy to use ~ VERY QUIET - not much louder than a small refrigerator. Compared to the Current USA chiller the JBJ is silent. Cons: ~ 1/2 inch connection only - unlike the larger chillers the fitting is part of the chiller so I needed to slice between my 5/8" tubing and the 1/2" chiller fillings. ~ no on/off switch It's only been a bit more than a week, but I am happy with my purchase and hope it lasts longer than a year. If the inlet/outlet fitting were more flexible I would have probably given it 5 stars - an on/off switch would be nice too..
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: The JBJ Artica 1/15 is the perfect match for the JBJ 28 Gal. HQI Nano Cube - set it forget it and never worry how long your light is on. I actually have to look at the cooling green light to see if the chiller is running as I can not hear the compressor running.

Chillin like a villain by RAY SUNDSTROM

Posted on 8/1/2009 from SEATTLE, WA UNITED STATES
Comments: This is my 2nd Arctica Titanium chiller. Like the 1/15 hp Titanium chiller on my 29 gal nano, the 1/10 hp unit maintains my 65 gal tank at a rock-steady temperature. In this case, the water temperature is set at 77 degrees with less than 1 degree variation - and the past 2 days it has been over 100 degrees outside with the tank located by a window! Easy setup and very quiet operation, I expect this unit to be as reliable and hassle-free as my 1st Arctica Titanium.

Comments: This little baby works very good. Mind you, I'm only cooling about 18 gallons, but it maintains a cool 65 deg within 1 deg variance. I tried the Coolworks Probe and thermostat, but I didn't see any more than maybe a 1 deg difference in temp. I think they would work good if you wanted to cool off a glass of water, however, that's about it. If you want a real solution, this is it. You simply cant beat it's ability to cool down in a harsh environment, and do it FAST! Yea, it's twice the price of the Coolworks Probe, but you get what you pay for.

Comments: This product is working great! Its keeping the temperature at a steady level and since the tank is in the atic its working a good amount. The temp outside right now is high 80's and the temp in the tank is 75 degrees. Perfect! You can barely hear it when it turns on. I have it on my JBJ 28g HQI nano cube. Its working great. Couldnt asked for anything better! The hook-up is simple. Took me about 20min to unpack and install. The controls are very simple and easy! Great Product!

Comments: I bought the 1/10HP JBJ Arctica Chiller for my 75 gallon reef tank. My tank temps were up around 84 degrees during the day and even with fans blowing across the water I was unable to bring the temp down. When I received the chiller I as able to have it set up in a few minutes. Within 2 hours of having it run my tank temp was down to a cool 77 degrees. It now only runs about 15 minutes every 1 1/2 - 2 hours to keep the tank temp constanst. I have it in my living room and its very quiet when it runs and I'm very pleased with its performance overall. Well worth the money and my fish seem happier.

Comments: I liked the width because it's narrow enough to fit in a tight space. It's also fairly quiet but you can definitely hear it. My biggest gripe is that the only options for plumbing it are various sizes of vinyl tubing over barbed fittings. Hard plumbing (PVC) is far more reliable over the long term but the threaded connector is a non-standard size so it can't connect to PVC threaded FIP. Ended up using Flex PVC onto the barb connector, which is now the weak plumbing link in my system. Can't tell how well it's cooling yet.

Comments: I got this unit as part of my complete setup with the Nano-Cube. Although it works really well, I was very disappointed that the setup didn't come with everything needed to hook it up. I had to purchase the hoses and didn't realize the unit needed to use one of my pumps to work (figured it had its own pump built in). I also would have thought that it would heat the water when needed considering its range is from 32-99 degrees. Good product to have when the Mother-in-law has to have the house at 80 degrees. Without it, the lights heat the water up to about 82 degrees.

Comments: I have had mine running about a week on a 110 gallon. It is doing a great job keeping the water cooled. I am running two 250 watt MH bulbs and two T'5's and the temp was about 84 degrees before adding the chiller. It is staying at about 78.6 now and stable. I don't notice any noise, maybe a low humm but that could be my Aquarium pump. Easy to operate and the digital display is nice to. A little bigger than I thought but I guess it has to be for a larger Aquarium. So far it's doing Great! Highly recommended . Nancy

Comments: I normally don't take the time to review products, but I felt I had to with this chiller. I purchased the 1/4hp model for a 90 gallon tank with 720watts of halide/vho lighting. Also, we live in South Texas, so naturally it's pretty hot and humid here. This smaller unit runs half the time of my previous larger 1/3hp model! It is very compact, and it's as quiet as advertised. The The inlet/outlet ports are conviently located and the included barbed fittings mades installation a breeze. The internal temp probe and red LED display are also a great bonus! I only took off one star because there was some damage in shipping. However, all issues were resolved and I would absolutely recommend this product to everyone.

Comments: I purchased a refurbished Current 1/3 hp chiller when I set up my 150 stony coral reef 13 months ago. It went out after about five months, but was replaced free of charge. The second one went out about three weeks ago, so I took the plunge and bought a new Artica 1/3 hp. It works perfectly, runs about 1/4 of the time the old unit did, and is twice as quiet.

Comments: Pros: Easy to Install. Cools my 90gal in minutes. Digital display makes setting and viewing the temperature easy. Cons: Big- makes concealing difficult. After adding a 2x 250w metal halide up top, the tank would reach 86.5 at the end of the day. I can now finally relax, knowing my tank won't get to hot. The unit isn't any louder then the fan in the light fixture, and it only runs for about 5 to 10 mins every 1 1/2 hours. my corals love me for it! "D"

Comments: My old 1/10HP chiller was woefully underpowered to keep up with MH lighting and summer weather on my 120g tank. The 1/3HP Arctica installed easily (thanks to 3 different sized barbed connectors) and went right to work. The temp is a steady 77 instead of 86+. I and the tank's inhabitants are much happier. No problems at all.

Comments: I have a 120g that runs at a constant 85*+ (never wanted to find out the actual temp). 2 400w Halides, 2 Little Giants, and one old Quiet One and had a ton of heat. Tried the JBJ 1/5hp off of a horrible suggestion from the silly people at Ocean Pros (don't buy from them; horrible experience, multiple times). That 1/5hp ran 20-30 minutes and was off for 3-5 minutes. It was quiet, sure, but running that long is not good at all. Jumped to the 1/3hp and have been very satisfied. It is a bit louder (like a loud fridge and a fan), but it runs for less than 5 minutes at a time. As for Marine Depot, they are great. Took the time to talk to me, and I was able to pick up the product (I am local) and was impressed with their office and organization.

Comments: After suffering through the previous summer, losing corals from the heat, I am really happy to have this chiller. I have it connected to a 120G tank and it kept the temperature around 78F comfortably through days that went into the 90s. I was a bit scared of what the noise level would be after reading a bit about chillers but this chiller runs very quiet. The unit looks good too and hookup was really easy.

Comments: I was initially very satisfied with this product - the unit was quiet and efficient. However, just after the 2yr warranty expired, so did my chiller. The manufacturer suggested that the fuse & power cord assembly on this unit had issues, and they had an upgraded design that may solve the problem. I bought their new cable arrangement but that wasn't it. Tried contacting them again for other replacement part info or service... figured even if I had to replace the condensor it would be better than buying a new unit. However, the manufacturer wouldn't return subsequent emails. I'll be looking for a different brand of chiller by next summer if I don't hear back from them - no sense throwing money away again for a limited life product whose manufacturer doesn't provide adequate customer service. FYI: this unit was only on a 55g tank, i.e. low duty cycle, plenty of room around unit for air circulation and I did keep it clean.
I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This is the first time I've ever used a chiller and frankly I'm amazed at how this one works. I have a 72 gallon bow front tank and set this baby up and set the temp to 79. As soon as the temp reached 80.2 degrees, it cuts on and runs until the temp is dropped. It's EASY to use. I have mine running from my main sump pump, to the unit and then from the unit to the tank return. Works great! The only thing I take issue with is the unit leaks a little (very little) around the input and mainly output. I am going to have to silicone it to plug it up. Other than that, I'm super pleased with this machine. Oh, I forgot, talk about noise? What noise? This unit is so quiet you can't tell it's running.

Comments: I bought this chiller in early 2006 because I was going to have the air conditioning replaced in the house and I wanted to keep the tank from getting too warm while it was being done. In a word... wow. The house got up to 95 degrees for 2 days, and this chiller kept my 55g reef tank stable at 80 degrees, even with my halides running. Since then, it runs just about every day in the summer, keeping my temperature at exactly 79 degrees all summer long. It sits next to my tank in our living room. You can hear it click on, but once it completely starts up (about 2 seconds), you don't even notice it running. Although I did fine without one for a long time, the peace of mind and stablility it affords continues to be worth it. Nice quality, quiet, and good looking. A great value.

Comments: I recently purchased the JBJ Arctica 1/4 HP and am almost completely pleased with my purchase. The JBJ is the quietest that I have come across (by far). I tried out a Coral Life Aqua-Chill 1/6HP and the Current USA Prime In-Line 1/4 HP units before purchasing the JBJ. In my opinion, the Coral Life and Current Units were much too loud -- both in start up and in running. I felt it important to get a unit as quiet as possible and the JBJ seems to be fitting the bill. Additionally, I had some quality problems with the Coral Life and the Current USA unit was a bit on the BIG side. It should be noted that the JBJ is not a dual stage chiller / heater controller, so balancing between the chiller and a separate heater is a bit of a pain. In addition, the chiller I had purchased does make an annoying clicking noise as it shuts off. So far, I have not been able to get JBJ to respond to my inquiries about the problem, but anticipate it to be a quick fix. All in all, the clicking bothers me much less than the annoyance of the louder units.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I bought this chiller for a 90G RR tank (overkill, but I'm upgrading to a larger tank next year and was sizing more for it). The setup is quick and easy and it definitely lives up to JBJ's sales pitch. Its incredibly quiet. I've seen it compared to a small fridge, but its really quieter than that. You hear a slight wind sucking sound but you dont really hear the compressor running. I have it in the living room and can barely tell when its running. Cycles on/off when its supposed to (1 degree swing) and the thermostat is pretty accurate.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Chiller by Mitch

Comments: Live in South Florida and even with air conditioning in the house to about 76 degrees, my reef tank was almost impossible to keep under 82 degrees, pumps, protein skimmers and UV, not to mention the compact light system on the top, all adding to the temp. Now a nice 77 degrees in the system and can leave all the goodies running without cooking the reef.

A Chiller You Can Live With by LOUIS SHRIBER

Comments: I puchased this chiller over a year ago and am quite impressed with its performance and ease of use. The aquarium it serves is a 90 gal. reef tank. Prior to adding the Arctica to the system, the water temperature sometimes climed to levels that were unsafe for corals. Since installing this chiller, the temps have not fluctuated more than 1 degree. Most impressive is the the fact that the unit is quiet and resonably attractive. Since it requires air circulation, it was the only piece of equipment that could not be concealed in my aquarium closet. The unit is quiet and unobtrusive enough to be suitable for the sitting area where it is installed. I recommend this product without reservation.

WOW! Quiet! by SnMan

Comments: I can't believe that I waited this long! I was dreading what my other half would say about the added noise. Not a word. It would have gone unnoticed had I put it under the tank in the stand. Instructions said not to put it under the stand so it is sitting out in the living room. You can't even tell when it kicks on unless you look at it for the green LED. Simply nice. I can't compare it to other brands since this is my first one but this one exceeded my expectations. Packing looked abused by UPS but inside there was plenty of bubble wrap and padding. The inner box was in perferct condition. Very satisfied.

Good Performance/Good Price by KAJ
Comments: This chiller has good performance at a good price. The two problems I see are it takes 12 AMPS to start the chiller [runs at 7.7AMPS], and its rather loud.
