Reducing nitrates by Arpeggios
Experience Level: Expert
Posted on 10/30/2009 from BURBANK, CA UNITED STATES
Comments: If you have high levels of nitrates and tried the other ways to lower them with no avail, this product WILL lower your levels with no effects to fish of reef habitats. I used it to lower mine and then weened the tank off the product and the results have been great!
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I purchased & tested this product when it first came out and recently, hoping for an improvement in its "4th generation." Although measurable reduction in nitrates did occur, I've never been able to get them down to zero as stated in the product marketing. Also, a white film always forms on the walls of the tank and others have reported serious adverse effects with their fish & coral. Better husbandry practices and frequent water changes are the best approach.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

This worked great by ERIC WOODS

Posted on 8/13/2009 from CHEYENNE, WY UNITED STATES
Comments: I have tried everything I could find prior. Frequent water changes, lots of live rock, time (14+ months since it started to climb), protein skimming, plants, refugium (55 gallon to support a 125 gallon tank),reduced feeding, different food, Anti-Nitrate gravel (De-Nitrate), different filters, more filters, carbon, trips to multiple fish stores, questions to my sister in law (prominant vet at a major California University), Purigen, even vodka dosing. Maybe I didn't run the vodka high enough, but never saw significant results. I am still continuing with Vodka dosing. I saw no change in nitrate level for about 10 days, then it went from off the scale to 80, then 40, <20, now 0. Once it hit less than 40 I was doing skimmer changes 4+ times a day. Filters quickly got plugged with some nasty cool slime. I did get a lot of foam in the sump, but all is well now. No loss of fish. Looking forward to getting Corals back! Thanks so much.

Comments: I purchased two bottles of the product. I followed the steps as described. I have a 100gl reef tank, and I have problems with nitrates. They were so high, over 50 ppm and I could not get the water changed. I tried the product and to my surprise it worked as published. The nitrates have fallen to close to zero, and I have not finished the first bottle. I highly recommend this product.

Just pay attention... by WILLIAM FITE

Comments: This is a fine product that does just what it claims. When used exactly as prescribed, it poses no threat to fish or inverts. People who report having livestock damage have almost always (1) failed to provide adequate water flow and oxygenation and/or (2) used an inadequate protein skimmer. Folks, you MUST keep the dissolved O2 high and skim like crazy while you pull your nitrates down. If you are careful in this regard, you will get a prompt response with no stress to livestock. (And, incidentally, you won't get residue on your glass, either.) Be careless and your critters will suffer. Don't be afraid of this product, just use good tank management practices and you'll be fine. O'course, if we always used good tank management practices we wouldn't have the nitrate problem to begin with, now would we? For the record, I have no financial interest in and connection to this product or its manufacturer.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This trully is a miricle worker. I only buy it when something really bad happens like a fish dies, but I can't get the fish out in time. Even when my nitrates were low, I would get film and hair algae outbreaks. This really will bring the nitrates down to 0 in a week and the growth will die off in my 125G reef tank. It has never hurt my fish, inverts, or corals.

Comments: Serious negative reactions to soft corals colt type, goniopora, derasa clams...not a reef safe product what so ever....discontinued use after only 4 days...sending this back ASAP for refund. Salivary amylase hydrolized messucite alone had me questioning its safety....water changes or prime or a refugium or all 3 effectively and Safely reduce nitrate to acceptable levels...atlantic blue tang showed stress from this product too...its not good stuff people, and you should ONLY sell great tested product you Know as SAFE, not otherwise.

Works as advertised by CHRISTOPHER DAY

Posted on 1/22/2009 from CHATSWORTH, CA UNITED STATES
Comments: I have used this product for about a week now. I have a Red Sea Max (AIO). I have been having a nitrate problem since I have established the tank. My Nitrate levels were about 40ppm and climbing. I have used the product 5 days. The nitrate levels have fallen to 10ppm. Hopefully another week the nitrates will be undetectable. Word of advice only use this product if you have a good protein skimmer. I have a tunze 9002 which are great Nano skimmers. I say this because I get between 30 and 50ml of skimming a day, after starting to use AZ-N03. Another very important thing is to make sure you dose properly. I started with the idea of less is more when I calculated how to does. Dose daily and start with recommended amount. Don't try and hurry the process. The reason I gave 4 stars is the product does stress your fish like others have mentioned in there posts. I had a yellow tang that was not 100% due to fighting with another Tang and getting stuck in overflow, and he died the 2nd day of using this product. Hope this info helps. I will continue to use this product and probably add it to my daily additives for the life of my tank.

Posted on 1/13/2009 from EL DORADO HILLS, CA UNITED STA
Comments: This is a good product that does what it says. It has taken my nitrates down from the 80-100ppm range to 20-30ppm range...which is great. The only problems are that it leaves a white film residue on my glass tank walls that takes a little effort to remove using an algae magnet, it also leaves some goopy residue on and in my canister filter, it becomes rather expensive to use if you have a big tank like mine (250 gal), and i have noticed a very mild negative effect on livestock. I am always apprehensive about adding something to my tank, but outside of the above mentioned concerns/problems. It works like they say.

Comments: We developed a serious nitrate problem with our reef tank. I purchased one bottle of AZ-NO3 and then didn't use it. I was afraid. However, we have 180 gal tank with expensive coral that was being overrun by ALGAE!! I read and reread the bottle's instruction. I especially paid attention to the part that said make sure you have a FULLY FUNCTIONLA skimmer as it pulls out a lot of garbage. I don't know that I would have had the guts if we didn't have the Euro-reef. I was confident in our Euro-reef so I took the plunge. This product is amazing. I have all but eliminated the algae from our show tank. The refugium is well on its way. We are past the 30 day mark but our nitrates are from off the charts to almost nothing. I will warn you, I had to empty our large Euro skimmer cup two to three times a day. The better it works the more crud come sout of your system. I have since added mangroves to help naturally reduce nitrates. However, this product convinced me not to throw in the towel. When nothing else worked, this did. We are now at a manageable point I never thought we would be at.

Comments: First, I dosed exactly as the instructions stated. On day 1 the nitrates in our 180 gallon reef were 10.0 ppm. When tested on day 11, the nitrates had dropped to 0.2 ppm. We tested yesterday (day 17) and the nitrates were undetectable with a Salifert test. We are very please with the results! Only negative is, we have heard of bi-valves and clams sometimes not surviving the treatment.

Comments: This product has reviews of working over the course of about 30 days. It should be advertised that this will not reduce your nitrates quickly and will take some time. If you are looking for a quick reduction (which most of us are) buy some Denitrate media for less cost and quicker results. Who wants to lose their expensive corals while this product takes time to work?

AZ NO3 by CHRISTIAN SEITZ
Experience Level: Expert
Posted on 9/17/2008 from BIARRITZ, FRANCE
Comments: Hi All! I discovered that product a year ago in France where I'm living. I used to have a NO3 reading of 0.0 for long time, so I became lazy and I stop to test for months. Then, I tested again and the reading was around 20 mg/l. Far to much for a 600 liters (150G) full SPS!Probably my RO/DI not on top. Not so easy to get back to 0 starting from 20ppm NO3. The options were to change all the water or put a sulphur filter or try AZ NO3. I went for AZ NO3 with succes and get back my usual reading of 0.0 NO3 after 2 months and 3 bottles of AZ NO3. I did not continue because I was run out ot product and it's very hard to find in France (only one retailer with a very small stock). So I stopped. Now, 1 year later NO3 are climbing up again so I ordered 10 bottles of AZ NO3.

Comments: Did an okay job at lowering the NO3- Probably need 5 or 6 bottles of this stuff to really get 0 reading, I was hoping one bottle would do the trick and it did not, it cut my NO3 value from 40 to 20 and I held strong there from days 8-15. I woudl recommend an alternative for the amount of money this would cost, DIY project etc. I did not lose any livestock during the addition of this supplement including clams and anemones.

Comments: This product isnt worth the risk. I have a 55 gal. with 3 powerheads, a good skimmer, a 15 gal. refugium with a return pump, and it wasnt enough to keep 3 of my fish alive during the recommended dosing. although it did drop my nitrates to zero it also dropped my fish dead. Day 6 - working so far! by STEVE WRIGHT
Experience Level: Intermediate
Posted on 5/5/2008 from PRATTVILLE, AL UNITED STATES
Comments: I received the AZ-NO3 several days ago. I'm now on Day 6 (will dose when I get home today). I tested Nitrates last night and they've dropped from a starting point of 80ppm to now around 40ppm. I've not experienced any clouding at all and have not seen any signs of stress from the fish, corals or inverts. I've got a huge heteractis malu that I've had for several years. He shows no signs of negative change; normal as usual. My pairs of blood red fire shrimp and skunk cleaner shrimp are normal also. All my starfish, 3 serpent stars, show no signs of stress. Snails are ok as well. At this time, I'd say this is a fine product. My skimmer (which got me to the point of needing AZ-NO3) has kicked up a notch and put out more than usual. It will be replaced soon with a Euro-Reef RS-180.

Comments: Top quality product , I have been using the product for approximately 3 weeks now and have now reduced Nitrates in my marine tank from 35-45mmg to 2mmg . Protein skimmer is really working a treat now and appears to be doing exactly what it should do , reason being i am using this product !Only downside is that the pH has reduced but i was prepared for that as it mentions an increase of Co2 in your tank . Highly recommended .

Comments: AFTER ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF I FINNALY GOT TO THE FULL DOSEING AMOUNT. MY BRYOPSIS ALGAE(THAT HAS BEEN A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS NOW) IS FINNALY DYING OFF. HOWEVER AT QUITE A COST, THE AZ-NO3 SEVERLEY DEPLETED MY DESOLVED OXYGEN LEVEL. MY SKIMMER GOT CLOGED AND WASN'T MOVING THE WATER LIKE IT SHOULD. WHEN I WOKE UP THE NEXT DAY MY SAILFIN TANG, BI-COLORED PSEUDOCHROMIS, AND CORAL BANDED SHRIMP WERE ALL DEAD, AND MY PURPLE TANG AND CLOWN FISH WERE GASPING FOR AIR. LUCKLY THEY SURVIVED. AFTER THAT I WAS AFRAID TO USE THE AZ-N03, AND AFTER 2-3 DAYS THE BRYOPSIS ALGAE HAS COMPLETELY TAKEN OVER MY TANK AGAIN. I HAVE STARTED DOSING IT AGAIN, BUT I AM VERY CAUTIOUS. USE CAUTION WITH THIS PRODUCT.

Comments: I've always had a problem with keeping my nitrates down in my 100 gallon salt tank. I know I probably overfeed, but . . . I've tried the nitrate sponges, and other products but nothing worked. My wife recently had surgery so I couldn't keep after my tank too well. Nitrates climbed to around 80. Since beginning to use the AZ-NO3, my nitrates have been consistantly no more that 15 - 20. It's the best nitrate reducer I've found. Only reason I'm reviewing it is I signed on to order another bottle!
