Manufacturer Info

American Marine Pinpoint Aquarium Supplies
American Marine was founded in 1989 by a devoted aquaculturist who was passionate about quality and precision. Back in the late 80s, critical water quality parameters were mostly tested with colorimetric test kits. Some digital instruments were borrowed from university or laboratory sources with mixed results but always a high price tag. Expensive European aquarium equipment was always a disappointment when it finally arrived. Inexpensive "pens" gave no better results than color test kits and prematurely failed even when testing for approximate readings.

Using the most current technology and design, American Marine introduced Pinpoint Monitors, which have become the most respected line of digital instruments in the aquaculture business. American Marine was the first to introduce a 2-year warranty on each and every monitor. For every purpose, from a goldfish bowl to a salmon hatchery, Pinpoint Monitors are called into duty every day because of their rugged design, precise readings and reasonable cost. American Marine has sold Pinpoint Monitors on every continent. Each monitor is powered by a standard 9 volt battery that is available worldwide.

Best, Most Reliable Controller

Even though this is a very expensive temperature controller, it's well worth it. I have 2 Eheims connected to the heating port and it keeps the tank water within 1 degree. I have it set for 77 degrees. As soon as it hits 77, it turns the heaters on until it gets to 78, then shuts them off. Rinse & repeat. These other Chinese temperature controllers are about as reliable as heaters themselves. Spend the extra money to have piece of mind. If you move the controller, the temp on the lcd jumps around, but it's literally for 5 seconds. There are 2 different, identical versions of this controller. The only difference is the newer one has a blue calibration knob on the lower left side and probably works a bit better. So if you get one without the calibration knob, return it. The controller is capable of 500 watts of heater control and, I believe, up to a 1/2 hp chiller as well. I don't use a tank controller, so it fits my needs perfectly. And being it doesn't fit in any probe holder because it's too thick, and comes with a suction cup, I would suggest using the Zoo-Med Mag Clips for this. It has a clip that fits perfectly on the probe and the probe is fully submersible. I keep mine halfway down the back-center of my tank instead of in the sump. I have a 93 gallon cube tank.

Simple Setup

This unit (I have 2) has made it simple to setup a chiller/heater without the tedious process of adjusting the units so there is no conflict thus saving energy. It eleminates the need to constantly readjust my heater since it is not digital.

Just what I needed

I received this on the 30th of March and had it up and running the next day. After one days use I can say that it does what it's supposed to do and that's to keep your water temperature at a consistent level. My tank is staying around 76 degrees right now and once I figure out how to program the thing I will keep it at 78 degrees. The instructions are a little less than helpful, I mean it tells you what to do, but doesn't really explain or give you an example of how to it. I am use a fan above my tank to keep it cool as it is cheaper than running a chiller. When I was running the fan constantly I was having to add about 2 gallons of water a day to make up for the evaporation, but with the temperature controller running all day I don't have to add any water tonight and my tank is nice and cool. Plus with this much control I don't have wide temperature swings like I did before the controller. My tank would go from 77 to 71 degrees in a day with the constant blowing fan. Now it only fluctuates a couple degrees. So I would highly recommend you get this controller, you will not be sorry.

works well

The dual stage controller works as advertised. The slight drawbacks are that the potentiometers that are used to set the temp limits can be finicky and the settings tend to drift a bit. Also, the BNC connector for the temp probe itself is quite sensitive to any movement. Shifting the device around can cause a fair swing in the temp reading by several degrees and can take a minute or 2 to settle out again. All in all, it operates my heater and chiller exactly as I have it programmed.

Wonderful! A Must Have!

I have been an Aquarist for years now. I have worked with world/class live-support specialists specializing in Reef and Jellyfish systems. This Dual-Stage controller does exactly what it says it will do, it allows for pinpoint control of both a heater and a chiller. There are many benefits of this product, two of which are the Ozone resistant probe and easy to use interface. Another benefit of all dual-stage controllers is that ability to use the heater as a last result. This means that the heater is not on until it is absolutely needed. this is often difficult with the analog control on most heaters. This means that the heater is off when your tank is within the ideal temp range making the duration of time the chiller is off significantly longer, saving electricity and giving you a quiet experience.
