Manufacturer Info
American Marine Pinpoint Aquarium Supplies
American Marine was founded in 1989 by a devoted aquaculturist who was passionate about quality and precision. Back in the late 80s, critical water quality parameters were mostly tested with colorimetric test kits. Some digital instruments were borrowed from university or laboratory sources with mixed results but always a high price tag. Expensive European aquarium equipment was always a disappointment when it finally arrived. Inexpensive "pens" gave no better results than color test kits and prematurely failed even when testing for approximate readings.
Using the most current technology and design, American Marine introduced Pinpoint Monitors, which have become the most respected line of digital instruments in the aquaculture business. American Marine was the first to introduce a 2-year warranty on each and every monitor. For every purpose, from a goldfish bowl to a salmon hatchery, Pinpoint Monitors are called into duty every day because of their rugged design, precise readings and reasonable cost. American Marine has sold Pinpoint Monitors on every continent. Each monitor is powered by a standard 9 volt battery that is available worldwide.

For some reason the temperature readout defaults to 72.x. We have the unit hooked up to our outdoor hottub. Tub usually is 104 degrees. If I turn the thermometer off and let it reboot it will read the correct temperature. After a certain amount of time it will again read 72.something. After hours it will again read the temperature and display correct temp. Sending unit only seems to update temp every few hours.

If you like this remote sensor, then you do not own more than one. If you wasted your money on a few of these as I have, you would be able to see huge differences between the readings. Choose a different brand.

Uses commonly available batteries (no expensive coin batteries) and works like a charm. Took 2 minutes to get it installed and can view the temps from anywhere in the house.

This product isn't worth the convience or the money if you consider the danger of killing your corals or animals. I purchased two units over a four year period with a total of three sensors. When all three sensors are placed in the same tank the vairance was 4.3 degrees between them. Not worth the risk!!!!!

I'm very pleased with this product. We've had cold winter here in TX, however I realize a lot of the country had much worse - its all relative. I'm using the thermometer in an outside pond just off the patio. The only thing I did to the original product was to fabricate a rainproof container for the outside sensor and the probe is in the pond. The unit has worked flawlessly.

I went through two of these and both of them were off by at least 5-6 degrees when tested against a glass thermometer. I was lucky enough to realize this before it killed anything in my tank. DON'T BUY THIS!!!

Absolutely hate it! THe first one didn't work at all. The second one worked for about on hour. The sensor just doesn't want to communicate to the monitor. And in order to do anything, you have to pop the batteries out and "start" again. Problem, the batteries are behind 4 screws, and so is the reset button. Definitly NOT user friendly. Even if it would have worked.

i just started a saltwater tank and was using this thermometer, am surprised everything in my tank is not dead as it is so off. the temp would consistently read 83-84 degrees and i just kept lowering my heater (its dead of winter so house is quite cold), finally bought an old mercury one which showed the temp at 72 (exactly what i had eventually turned my heater down to). so for me it was a good 8 degrees too high. been researching how to callibrate, but don't think you can.

I tried Honeywell & others-crappy. This one was hard to find, but worth the effort. Easy to set up and use. Only complaint is the sensor probe that goes into the tank is not long enough for my application.
