AquaC

The revolutionary AquaC protein skimmers do not use venturis, downdraft tubes, or air pumps; they employ the patented "Spray Injection System." This innovation allows the protein skimmer to efficiently draw in much more air than any other of the top protein skimmers. This coupled with the superiorly designed compact reaction chamber yields results that will literally blow the waste out of your water.

How does Spray Injection Work?

In 1998, Jason Kim (owner and founder of AquaC) developed a patented process of protein skimming which has come to be known as Spray Injection. Unlike previous forms of skimming, our spray injection method enables huge amounts of air and water to be processed with a relatively small pump. Although it is a simple process, there is still some confusion as to how the spray injector works.

Imagine that you're washing your car – you've got a bucket full of soapy water and a garden hose with a fast-moving stream of water. By placing your thumb over the end of the hose, you can disrupt the stream into a turbulent, high –pressure spray. Now direct that spray down into the bucket of water, and you'll generate a massive amount of bubbles and air flow. That is exactly how our spray injector works.

The skimmer body acts as a water reservoir – the bucket in the example above. Water is pumped through the spray injector, which has a special nozzle that fans the water out into a pressurized spray. This spray shoots into the skimmer body, generating millions of tiny air bubbles. As the bubbles are formed, more air is sucked into the skimmer as a result of the local drop in pressure and the process continues.

Most other forms of protein skimming rely on special valves or media to generate the air flow, and these parts quickly become clogged with salt, dust, or even mineral deposits. The AquaC spray injector is a relatively large nozzle that resists clogging, and when combined with a pump prefilter, can be considered maintenance free.

"For its compact size and simple design, The AquaC protein skimmer is able to process a large volume of water and efficiently remove organic pollutants. I`m very happy with it!"
Fernando Nosratpour, Senior Aquarist
Birch Aquarium at Scripps

Save your money

I purchased this unit almost 2 years ago... I give it 3 stars because ultimately it does work but not at all to my expectations. Skimmer is not quite, I haven't used another to compare to but once it goes through it's break in period mine gets louder. Takes a few days to break in then all the thousands of micro bubbles will go away, however if you turn the unit off for more than a few mins (like to spot feed your coral) expect to wait again for the tiny bubbles to disappear, because of this I keep mine on during spot feeding. As far as the skimming itself I actually stopped using my skimmer for about 4-6 months because I couldn't get it to stop having wet skim. I moved the cup to the highest position, contacted AquaC customer service which was pointless the only thing they do is blame anything else (your salt, water, supplements, anything but there skimmer). My cup would fill up in less than 24 hours. I recently starting using this skimmer again when I increased my amount of coral and fish in my tank, skim is still wetter than I would like, the cup fills up within 24 to 48 hours and isn't the nice darker green gunk you would like to see. Guess I don't have to worry about "over" skimming my soft/lps coral reef tank. Ultimately I wish I would have listened to others saved my money and put another $100 into a better skimmer, but I went the cheaper route and now I'm stuck with what I have until I can purchase a better skimmer.

The best i've used so far

at first i was a little worried about the reviews stating about the noise it makes. so i did all my research on how to quiet it down and did find a couple... but after getting the product i noticed one modification they did... they put a foam on the 1st compartment that almost silenced the equipment totally. the Spray Injection is very effective and started collecting gunk on its 1st night. it does produce microbubbles but it is definitely MICRO you hardly see them.

Not what I thought

Ok I take my reviews VERY seriously as they make my decisions on most purchases. With that said I have a 90g/30g refugium. I started out with an EV-120 and although it did an AWESOME job it took up alot of room in my lower cabinet. So I went to this hang on which is aesthetically pleasing. Well it didn't produce even half the skum but it ran much more quiet. After couple months it produced even less. I called Aqua C (EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SUPPORT) and they told me to try the cleanout port which this unit comes with a brush for that. Well the screw for that port was VERY hard to turn. Aqua C sent me 3 replacement screws but when I finally got around to removing it it seamed to be glued in. After getting a new one in it,it leaked around that screw. Nothing to do but put glue around it to stop the leak. I called Aqua C again and they sent me a BRAND NEW UNIT. This screw on the new unit feels and looks like I won't have this problem after installation. So in all this. Customer Service was more than helpful and I couln't have asked more from Aqua C however if you have the choice you will have 10 times better results with the EV-120.

Nice

Just got this in the mail and installed it right away. I washed it with warm water as the instructions said and it's pretty quiet and it will probably quiet down more as it breaks in.

I have seen people complaining about this skimmer being to loud. However, my opinion it isn't loud at all. Makes nice skimmage and cup is easy to clean.
