Have had this skimmer about a year and have gone through two impellers, and now need to order three. There is a design flaw in having pump sit vertically, skimmer works good, but three impellers in a year is crazy!!

My protein skimmer went out unexpectedly one day (it wasn't that old, maybe 14-15 months) so I went to my local aquarium store for another. They said they don't carry protein skimmers anymore and suggested I go to Petco or one of those stores. (Thanks! I'll remember that!). I have a 125 gal coral reef tank and not much experience so I checked out some various products on line and chose the AquaMaxx. I have to say, I was very pleased at the very quick time the request was processed and delivered. In addition, it was very easy to assemble. They state it takes a few days for it to acclimate which is true. I'm still working on that piece. They also state it is very quiet which is very true and appreciated as my tank is in the family room where a lot of TV is watched. I would definitely get another if I still had my second tank and would recommend this to anyone of any experience level.

The Skimmer is great and lives up to its name (MAX). The skimmer took out waste from day one. It fills up a lot because my old skimmer didn't its job. The only con I have is the pump gets rather noisy when I have had it on for three days straight. I just unplug it and then plug it back in and its silent again.

So far this seems to be a great skimmer at a very good value. Still cycling my new tank, but this skimmer is working great so far. Good fit for tight sump spaces. Making nice bubbles and looks like it is going to do a great job. Nice construction as well, easy to adjust and tweak to get the exact skimate you are looking for.

In the evening, before I go to bed, instead of kissing my kids goodnight, I go downstairs and kiss my AM200S. I jest. But this skimmer is great. Very well built, solid, easy to clean and remove skimmate cup, awesome customer support (answer every email promptly and in a detailed manner). Granted my old skimmer was undersized for the tank, but this skimmer is pulling out 1+ cup (I'm intentionally running slightly wet) of skimmate a day. Took 2 days to break in.
The only reason I took off 1/2 star is that I thought it would be completely silent, which it is not. It's about as loud as my Mag3, which is not what I expected.

Took me about a week to get it broken in but now i'm getting gobs of delicious green gunky foam & funk. Can see a noticeable difference my my water quality. Using this in a 30 gal sump underneath a 75 gl. fowlr setup; soon to be hosting corals once I upgrade the lighting.
A few tips that may help others...
Be patient, don't expect it to start skimming the first day.
Rinse it very well with warm to hot water like the directions say.
Try to be around to babysit it for the first couple days. It will be much easier to watch it and get it dialed in quicker.
Use the drain valve in the collection cup to let out water if you have a flood.
Start with the water level lower than the 8-10 inches that the directions suggest. Then gradually bring the water lever up once you are foaming consistently. I got good results starting around 5 inches of water.
Overall the Aquamaxx is a well constructed beast that I anticipate will be keeping my water clean for many years.
