AquaMaxx

AquaMaxx BioMaxx Plus BioPellets improve water quality for fish and other marine life in saltwater aquariums. BioMaxx Plus BioPellets initiate a more efficient denitrification process that removes nitrate and phosphate from aquarium water. High nitrate and phosphate fuels algae growth and may negatively impact invertebrate or coral.

Using BioMaxx Plus BioPellets inside a fluidized filter (media reactor) will help to achieve maximum results and efficiency. Use 0.5 to 1 liter of pellets for every 125 gallons of water. Starting with a low dosage and increasing over time is preferable to beginning with a higher dosage. Be sure to rinse the media before use.

Instructions

    1. Fill your fluidized media reactor with the appropriate amount of AquaMaxx BioMaxx Plus BioPellets.

    2. Use a ball valve (or similar device) to adjust the flow inside the reactor so that the BioPellets are suspended within the reactor chamber. The pellets should not be pushed to the top.

    3. Check your media reactor once each day to ensure your BioPellets are still fluidized. The pellets will slough layers and decrease in size due to the tumbling action inside the reactor. Replenish your reactor every 3 to 6 months (or as needed) with additional BioPellets.

Biopellets

I have not noticed any real difference between competing brands of biopellets. I would be interested in finding biopellets of a larger size so that they do not occlude the screens as much. This is especially true when the pellets begin to shrink during use. I am using a Reef Octopus BIOCHURN reactor that seems to work very well and has less clumping than other reactors I have tried. My protein skimmer (also Reef Octopus-HOB model) seems to work very well, too. One recommendation to anyone starting out is to set up a sump rather than using external protein skimmers and media reactors. My 110 gallon tank was already set up without a sump and I wish I had spent the extra time and money to set up a sump. A sump would improve both the performance and appearance of my tank. I am a "returning" marine aquarist having spent the last 15 years raising african chiclids because of difficulties finding healthy, high quality marine fish and invertebrates. Much of the time I spent raising marine fish and invertebrates was before protein skimmers and media reactors were available. Everything was undergravel and canister filtration which worked very well for me. Now I am learning all over again!

Biomaxx pellets/reactor

Ordered biomaxx pellet reactor and pellets to add to my sump. Product was very easy to use and did not clump in any way. Can not confirm if product is doing as promised but, all my levels seem to be ideal.

So far so good.

I have been using Biopellets in a fluidized reactor for about a year. I bought these Biopellets because the previous brand that I used tended to clump a lot and these were supposed to not clump as often. I have had the pellets in my reactor for about a week so far and they are still churning. No complaints at all so far.

Works Good

Great Biopellet product. My only comment is that is breaks down very quickly, the longest I've made it on one bag is 3 months. I have a AquaMaxx BioReactor and run it on the recommended flow rate, they just seem the break down quickly. Other than that, they are good about not clumping and they work as a nitrate reducer. Thank you.

AquaMaxx

I've used Little Fish brand before and these seem to be larger in diameter which is fine, they haven't clumped together like the other brand. Nitrate are controlled using both brands.
