AquaMaxx EcoMaxx EM100 In-Sump Protein Skimmer

AquaMaxx EcoMaxx EM Series In-Sump Protein Skimmers efficiently remove organic waste from aquarium water. A powerful needle wheel pump generates optimally-sized air bubbles that force protein, waste and other materials into a collection cup for easy removal. The AquaMaxx EM Series is rated for aquariums 120-600 gallons yet are small enough to be concealed in a sump underneath your aquarium.

Computer-precision engineered and outfit with the latest filtration technology, AquaMaxx protein skimmers are engineered to deliver the performance and value you are looking for in a skimmer.

AquaMaxx EcoMaxx EM Series Skimmers are built using a brilliantly polished cell-cast acrylic. They incorporate the high-end features hardcore hobbyists demand at a price everyone can afford. The EM Series is equipped with bubble plates, modified cone necks, air silencers and needle wheel impellers for maximum performance, efficiency and whisper quiet operation. They also have compact footprints to make installation as easy as possible.

HIGH PERFORMANCE
AquaMaxx EcoMaxx Skimmers feature custom Italian-made Sicce pumps with special needle wheel impellers to whip up large amounts of air with optimum bubble size. These pump and protein skimmer combinations deliver unprecedented performance and reliability. Aquarium waste will be vigorously removed from your tank so you can focus less on maintenance and more on enjoying your piece of the reef.

SUPERIOR DESIGN
AquaMaxx EcoMaxx Protein Skimmers are designed from the ground up with the hobbyist in mind. The pump is incorporated into the base of the skimmer for a space-saving design that will be easy to incorporate into your filtration system. A built-in air intake silencer further reduces noise for near-silent operation. The specially-designed transition cone neck effectively moves skimmate into the collection cup for removal. Bubble plates decrease turbulence, improve bubble formation and help skimmer performance.

Agree with other reviewers

Such a poor design that I discontinued its use. Even with a foam ring around the output, the overflow was bad. The ring slipped from vibration and the spray really made a mess. Well made, bad design.

AquaMaxx EcoMaxx EM100

Very good skimmer. Agree with others that the water return value is an issue with water spraying into the sump. I have a very quite system and this was somewhat of an irritation. Everything is quiet on this skimmer except the splashing of the water back into the sump. I solved the splashing/noise problem by using a foam pipe wrap that I got from my lfs. Given the small footprint, quality of build, and skimming ability I would buy again now that I've solved the splashing problem.

AquaMaxx EcoMaxx EM100

I purchased this skimmer before any reviews were out, thinking a little extra $$ spent on a good skimmer would be a good thing... It works great at skimming, however, this design creates a huge mess in the sump. The return is placed above the water line and sprays out in a high energy disc pattern, not such a great idea. 5 stars for skimmate production, 0 stars for lack of warning in the design!

Not what I expected...

This is my first skimmer and I am by no means an expert. I've been doing research for the past 10 years, finally put up my tank, and bought the EM-100. While set-up is simple, the over spray that is caused by having it at the recommended height is not (6-8 inches). I am not sure why Aquamaxx would design this skimmer to have it spray out water in the sump. I'm still waiting for a YouTube video to see if I placed this incorrectly...but I think this is the way it was designed. With all that said, it does work well. However, I don't like the salt build-up and splashing this skimmer causes. I may just place the water release underwater and see if the performance drops.

Poor Design AM-100

I purchased this unit a little over a month ago. It skims fine, however there is a serious design flaw with the AM-100. The output for this skimmer is such that when adjusted to the 6-8" recommended depth you'll have water squirting out of the output and some serious spray within your sump. You have to submerge this thing in closer to 8-9" on water to keep this from happening or find some way of minimizing splash in your sump with foam/enkmat, etc. Skimmer performance IS degraded when submerged >8". I noticed clearly a drop in skimmate quality. I also see other models of the Aquamaxx don't seem to have this issue as the output is submerged. It amazes me that something like this would have been missed during R&D. Overall I'm not very happy with this skimmer and would not purchase again.
