Comments: I put two aqua clear 110 filters on a 120 aquarium. Immediately the water changed. Very clear. Cannot hear the units working. The best part is the inserts you can get. This is a new set up. With the amonia media packs put in the units the problem with amonia on a new aquarium should be much less. Would recomend the aqua 110. I researhed and found the Aqua 110 was the best. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: These things are quiet and they last forever. Spare parts are readily available if you ever need them. You can customize your filter media, equip it with a surface skimmer or a prefilter sponge, modify it into a nano 'fuge ... how many uses do you need? Personally, I throw away the little 'bio max' balls and run an extra sponge instead. A word of advice to beginners though: regardless of brand, ALWAYS buy a filter that is rated for at least double the size tank you have, trust me you won't regret it. Good luck and ... Hagen Aqua Clear 50 HOB by JOHN

Comments: Nice filter with smart media options. I had used hagen HOB filters back in the late 70's and 80's and always liked them. I switched to another brand after getting back into the hobby 5 years ago. I decided to try Hagen again and this is a well thought out product. I do not use carbon unless needed for a specific task so I placed a second sponge into the media tray instead of the carbon pouch. I did email Hagen with several questions and was unimpressed with their responses to my questions. When I set it up I was suprised how small the unit was and to me it did not seem to be able to produce 3 1/3 gallons per minute flow rate but maybe it does. I asked Hagen if the units true flow was 200gph. Their answer was no response to my question. I also asked why the recommeded 3 month sponge filter and 3 month Biomax media replacement schedule as I have for years simply washed the sponges until they "really" wear out and then replace them. I have never used the "Biomax" ceramic media before but I will wash and reuse this as well until it "needs" (is made out of ceramic after all) replaced. It all comes down to how much manufacturers want to sell and how much you want to spend on replacement media. I would not have even posted this info had it not been for the form letter type reply from them relating to my simple questions. (Their reply below) For optimal performance of our Aqua Clear filter it is recommended to replace the media as stated in the manual. The foam will break down over time, the carbon is an activated carbon and after one month will serve no purpose in the filter, and the Biomax helps house your beneficial bacteria that helps keep the aquarium clean and is not a permanent media even though it is ceramic it breaks down over time. Still I do think it is Overall a nice HOB filter. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Have been using this filter for almost 3 months. It keeps the water in my 29gal. freshwater tank crystal clear!! I keep zebra danios, dwarf gouramis, and a pleco. For the first 2-3 weeks after setting up the filter the water seemed to stay kinda cloudy (expected due to bacterial bloom/cycle). But once it had cycled it does an exceptional job, is SUPER QUIET, and for the price it cant be beat. I highly recommend for tanks around 30 gal. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I've been using Aqua Clear HOBs for seven or eight years and have been pleased with the construction and design. The large media box allows for different uses other than "just a filter". The reason I bought this size/model is that I needed a small reactor and didn't want to pay for a purpose-built reactor. The media box in these HOBs works well as a "poor man's reactor". Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: this is a great filter w/ plenty of power, however the shipping was not so great and recieved a the item in pieces form shipping breakage. this happened not once but twice, so be prepaired to waite. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This is the only HOB filter I know of that uses reverse flow. The water flows from the bottom of the filter and up through the media exiting the unit. With the help of gravity the water flowing through the filter media gets more contact time and traps waste more efficiently. The unit is also super quiet. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: So far so good. This is my 2nd AquaClear (50 and 30) and I like it a lot. It cleans sooooooo much that i have to rinse the sponge constantly, which is a good thing. I am probably getting the 110 soon for another aquarium. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: The Aqua Clear 70 was easy to set up and easy to install. I had some very dirty water as my previous filter was out for five days, and I could not find a replacement in my area. The filter cleaned the water entirely within one day. It's quiet and it runs smoothly. I have a 45 gallon tank, and this filter is just fine. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I have these on all my tanks. I run 1 on my sw tank which i can move to a QT if i need. They can be a pain in tanks with very fine sand, but what filter isnt? Lasts longer than any other brand IME. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This is probably the best HOB power filter for the buck. Only problem I've run across is when using sand as a substrate. Individual sand particles can get lodged next to the impeller, ruining it. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
