No Support from Aqua Medic

First - what other reviewers wrote about this pump is very true. I've used several of them over many years. They work fine when they work, but they are very, very fussy. You may have no problems and feel like it's a 5-star product. You may have leaks, loss of siphon, etc. and feel like it's a one or two star product. The phrase "your mileage may vary" is particularly true for this product. I, mostly, have done fine. But I have paper towel and/or aluminum foil "shims" inside more than one of them to alleviate the loss of siphon problem by pressing the tubing more firmly against the rollers. My biggest beef is the lack of support of this product from Aqua Medic. The little plastic wheels in the center cracked inside two of my units. Aqua Medic's parts page says that they are unavailable and to contact support about it. On the support page, you will not find a domestic (USA) phone number. For us, we are supposed to e-mail them. I have not heard back. I had to buy a new unit. (I chose an Ice Cap doser this time. I'm happy so far.)

Very Poor Quality

The issues are many: 1. The hose is so rigid that I had to lubricate the tubing and the rollers with olive oil to get it to consistently turn when activated. 2. The unit made lots of noise (chatter)every time that the pinch roller assembly initiated a cycle. 3. As delivered, I had to cut back the hose to get the unit to move water properly and not bind the drive rollers. 4. I had to take the unit out of service because the plastic assembly on which the rollers are mounted and is driven by the motor eventually failed by cracking. I would not buy this product. There are plenty of other alternatives out there. As another rating stated, buy cheap and buy twice. That statement applies to this product.

follow the directions

This is a great pump, but follow the directions. Make sure it is above the water level. I had it below and it flooded. So this is my second one. Also, if the pumps seems to stop working when you are using it for a calcium reactor, make sure you check your tubing first before you replace any pump parts. Just some info from my own experience. I would suggest this pump for calcium reactor over a small air pump. I think it works better and is more reliable.

Better ones out there

I've been using this for five months now. What a waste of money. I received this as a gift, and use it to dose kalk. Initial setup took forever. I could not get an airtight seal between the in/out hoses and the unit. Air bubbles kept appearing in the lines. I had to tighten the fittings with a wrench to the point where they almost cracked. Also, I had to install a one-way valve on both the infeed and outfeed tubes, otherwise the unit lost its prime when it was not running. It is also very sensitive to the feed source's level. It pulls kalk from a five gallon bucket sitting next to the sump. When the bucket's level drops below halfway, the amount it doses drops. Very inconsistent. Now, five months into owning the unit, the pump's output has dropped by two thirds. Very frustrating. The idea behind purchasing something like this is to make tank maintenance easier, when in fact this pump is nothing more than something else you need to be worrying about. And we haven't even mentioned the ridiculous price they want to charge for a 4 inch piece of rubber replacement hose. Save your cash and avoid the headaches. There are many other quality pumps out there for the same, or even less money. (I'm using two of another brand, and they have worked flawlessly.) And the replacement hoses are less than half the cost.

Flawless performance

This is my second pump for another ATO application. The first pump has been running flawlessly for about 1 and 1/2 years now. And the second one has set-up the same and it also is running flawlessly. In response to the problems noted in other reviews, I think that the instructions (or lack thereof) leave a lot to be desired. If the instructions were a bit more explicit as to greasing and assembly, I'm sure people would have better results.

Completely unsatisfactory

Another reviewer said it perfectly: Buy cheap, buy twice. I bought this as a top-off pump in order the save a few bucks. What's wrong with it? Where shall I begin? The cover is so loose that it doesn't even need to be touched to fall off. The tolerances between the roller and the track are so wide that the pump will not move water unless the tubing is in exactly, precisely the right place. But, of course, those same sloppy tolerances mean that the tubing will not STAY in the right place. The tubing fittings on one of the two tubes were improperly molded and would not fit into the pump housing. Aqua Medic should be ashamed and embarrassed to market this shoddy merchandise. Given their spotless reputation, I am surprised that the folks at MarineDepot sell it. I suppose I could have returned the pump to MD but after several days of trying one thing and another, including having it looked at by a mechanical engineer (who simply shook his head), I took great delight in throwing it against the side of my brick house just as hard as I possibly could. Then I ordered a LiterMeter. Which I, of course, should have done to begin with. Trust the people who give this pump 1 and 2-star reviews. It really is poorly designed, poorly manufactured, and essentially useless.

perfect

best little pump out there! simply plug and play. I have looked all over the internet, and locally (hospital) for a peristaltic pump for my calcium reactor - this is perfect and relatively inexpensive. why did I wait so long to buy it??

Didn't do the job for me

I bought this pump for an auto-top-off system which is run through a Kalk reactor. It worked very well at first, topping my sump off at a very slow rate with saturated kalkwasser. The problem arose when it started siphoning kalkwasser back into my freshwater reservoir after shutting off. This quickly clogged the airline tubing connected to the pump with calcium oxide. Because the pump does not develop very much pressure to begin with, it failed and required constant cleaning. I would not recommend this product for top-off systems run through a Kalk reactor.

Aqua medic 3000

This is an excellent unit. Has been very reliable for over a year running 4 hrs every 24 hrs for automatic top off throuth a kalc reactor. The roller assembly finally cracked. Replaced it and im back in business. I am very pleased with this unit. The float switch is very precise once set properly and reliability has been excellent.

Useles Pump

I wish I had read the reviews. The motor does not have enough power to turn the wheel. After greesing it 5 or 6 times, it still stalls frequently. The cover pops off every time you look at it. What a piece of junk. Marine Depot should drop this product line.
