Excellent Lighting

I have 2 of Expert Series 46" & 1 of 14". With this light all Coral SPS & LPS stand out vivid color & shimmy very nice. Especially you can program your own color together that you want. with 24" deep tank, this is the ONE you should have. The support for the light is very weak. You should buy a hanging kit to hang them on.

Nice Light

I agree with most of the other posts. It is a very nice light and easy to use and program. I did how ever have the same problems with the screws for the legs and also with the loose nut in the power supply. I called AquaticsLife`s Support line and they sent me out a new set of legs with the metal mounts and screws and had them within 2 days. You couldn't ask for a better customer service. I wish other companies would use them as a model.

LED Move....

Cons..in a couple of other reviews, it was mentioned that the screws for the supplied legs were too short. This happened to me as well. Another person commented on the noise it made...this is true as well. There is a fan that keeps the power supply cool that runs all the time. It is the size and sound of a PC case fan. The sound however is not distracting. Pros - having said the above I still gave it a 5 star because of the lights features. You can pretty much do any color combination and intensity you could possibly want with the downloaded software. I currently have it set to slowly ramp up in intensity...and then ramp back down. Pretty much like what would be a normal cycle of the sun. I was using a fixture that had 2-150 metal halides and 2-96 watt CLF's. With my current setting, the software says I am using 550 watts for the entire day. The lightning and cloud cover settings are pretty amazing as well. It was time for me to buy new bulbs for my old fixture. Between the energy cost savings and replacement bulb costs, this light will pay for itself fairly quick.

Great light once working.

To begin with, my review is for the 46" fixture, not the 14" fixture as listed above on this review page. As with all products there are some that are defective in some way; I just seem to get more than my fair share. I had issues with loose nuts and screws in the power supply and a stripped screw on one of the suspension hardware wires. That being said, AquaticLife was very quick to respond, and proactive in their solving future issues. A replacement suspension hardware was mailed the next day, with a pre-paid return label so that they could get with the manufacturer of the defective piece. As I was comfortable with dismantling the power supply, they allowed me to inspect the unit, and identify and correct the issues myself, (without voiding the warrantee), to get me up and running as soon as possible. I had the unit diagnosed, video documented, and up and running within half an hour. Because of my information, they found 2 more defective units, (before they were shipped out), and made changes in their assembly process to prevent the issue from happening again. As for the light itself, it was easy to program using their software and on-line videos, also they offered sample traces and personal suggestions based on my personal reef system. The corals' colors now "Pop-out" and they are growing faster than I've ever seen them grow. I have a mixture of Mushrooms, Colony, Palythoas, Zoanthids, Montiproa, Seriatopora, and Porites. With the right placements for water-flow and light, there is enough light for the SPS's, while still being able to scale it down enough for the less light-loving polyps and mushrooms. After 3 months, I am running my program at 60% right now; which seems to be the optimal setting. All of the fish, inverts, and corals seem to be doing great. Discounting the initial problems that I had at setup, the only complaint that I have is that the 14" fixture is the only one that comes with suspension hardware. The 2 other larger fixtures have to have the hardware purchased separately. At the time that I purchased mine, the advertising documentation said that the 46" came with the suspension hardware. It was only because of more intense research that I found out that it didn't, and included the hardware as part of my purchase. Since then, I believe even the documentation has been corrected. Having tried less expensive LED "reef" fixtures, there is no comparison between them. I know that the cost may be a bit intimidating, however, if you are serious about having corals in your reef system, and want to go LED, don't waste the money on the "cheaper" units if you can! If I would have just added the extra $300~$400 to the cost of my previous units I would have been about $750 ahead of the game, and a lot happier. Hope this review is helpful. Happy Reefing.

LED Programmable

Did the research, but wanted to save some $s, so I invested in a "knockoff" version for about $150 less. Big mistake. Needless to say I returned the mistake and purchased 2 of the expert series. Great decision. These lights are well made, easy to program, maintenance free and my reef tank loves them. Well worth the investment, highly recommended. BTW, the fact that these have no fan is a big plus. They manage the heat well and less evaporation thanks to less air movement.

Great lights, but noisy fan

I purchased the 3 watt Expert Series 46" Light fixture. It is the second fixture I buy from Aquaticlife, pricey, but the quality of the materials, the design and the performance is exceptional. The only problem I found is the power supply, VERY noisy, just like a small vacumm. Their customer service sent me a new fan which I replaced but that did not fix the problem, at the end they just said sorry. If noise is a big problem for you, there is a chance that you may end up returning the product. I was impressed with the software, I think is user friendly, but you need to watch the tutorials. I love the look of the fixture, clean, slim and contemporary look. All my corals are responding very positive, growing faster and looking healthier. I hope they can find a solution to the noise because their product in my opinion is one of the best out there.

This is the very best LED fixt

I have been amazed by this light fixture on my 240gal sps coral reef tank. It replaces a noisy heat-generated mixed halogen and compact fluorescent fixture with a quiet cool light fixture that works well on my sps corals. It is easy to use and can be programmed to change to numerous colors. I found that programming from factory is perfect for my corals. It is wider(deeper) than other LED fixtures 1nd covers my 2ft x2ft x8ft tank. I have an Acan fixture on half of my tank to cover the entire 8ft but plan to purchase another aquatic life LED to replace it.

Great Product!

Product is expensive but i worth it! Gets a little hotter than I would expect, I have 2 of the 34" (in a canopy) for a 240 gallon tank, 96" long, they light the tank perfectly. Luv the shimmer/lighting/remote control. The people at Marine Depot are excellent, they respond to questions quickly and are very knowledge about the product.

Unbelievable

I am using this fixture on a 90 gallon system with a mix of corals and fish. The fixture replaced two 14k 250w MH's and four 65w CF's. If I run one of the preprogrammed traces at full power the unit is at least 25% brighter than my old lighting. My old fixtures increased the temp of the water by about three degrees throughout the day...new fixture is about half a degree. The computer program shows how many watts you will use per day with each trace. I have calculated about a $25/month savings on my electric bill. I cannot believe the colors that are now visible in the aquarium...colors and brightness are so easy to adjust. I wish I had this fixture when I started out seven years ago. If you can afford it, this is the only way to go.
