Marine chemists estimate that the chemical composition of seawater has remained relatively constant over the past several hundred-million years (perhaps longer than the last billion years); this stability is largely a result of the immense volume of the ocean and the physical, chemical, geological, and biological processes taking place within it. The so-called “modern day” corals largely responsible for building reefs in tropical marine environments have been in existence for well over 200-million years (soft corals have been around much longer than that!), and more primitive life forms (such as sponges) have been around still longer, collectively evolving and thriving in relatively stable chemical conditions. Recent findings by advanced aquarists and scientists in many countries confirm what has long been suspected: there is no obvious benefit to maintaining the concentrations of calcium and other elements depleted by reef-building organisms at grossly elevated levels; in fact, this practice can be detrimental to their long-term survival. All of these points taken into consideration, it seems elementary to replicate the most important aspects of natural chemical composition of seawater as closely as possible to properly care for delicate marine creatures in captivity. The single most important contributor to success with a marine aquarium is maintaining water parameters within tolerable ranges; no amount of lighting and filtration can compensate for water that is lacking in numerous essential elements and that does not meet the criteria required for survival by marine organisms. A successful marine aquarium therefore begins with quality seawater.
Brightwell Aquatics NeoMarine Salt Mix creates an ideal marine environment for aquarium inhabitants by providing all major elements, all non-conservative (depleted by natural chemical and biological processes) minor and trace elements, and elements known to be utilized in the production of biological pigments (biochromes) in precise natural seawater ratios; all ions are formulated to be present in natural seawater concentrations. Conservative minor and trace elements are not depleted in marine environments, indicating that they are not utilized by marine life or do not take part in chemical reactions in seawater; as such, they are not necessary for the survival of aquarium inhabitants, and are not part of the NeoMarine formulation. NeoMarine is not formulated to have enhanced concentrations of certain elements at the expense of sacrificing others and creating a solution with grossly inaccurate elemental ratios; this formulation is based wholly on current marine science data and extensive testing.
NeoMarine is manufactured in Brightwell Aquatics’ production facility in Pennsylvania, ensuring that we maintain absolute control over quality; NeoMarine is not outsourced as many competing US-manufactured salts are. Additionally, elements are provided by individual salts (no seawater evaporite is used); this enables us to maintain a consistent formulation and appearance to the finished salt mix at all times. Ingredients are measured using an extremely accurate process, and each batch of NeoMarine is blended in a dry, clean environment. Our production process promotes uniformity of particle size and homogeneity throughout each container. Small batches are created and lot numbered to maintain the highest standards of quality control. NeoMarine utilizes ingredients of superior grades, and contains no detectable ammonia, nitrate, phosphate, or organic substances at standard specific gravity. It dissolves completely to create crystal clear water. NeoMarine has been extensively tested over a multi-year period with 100% success on all manner of marine invertebrates, fishes, and desirable algae; numerous species of fishes, corals, and mollusks have reproduced freely when maintained in water prepared with this salt blend. NeoMarine is formulated for all marine organisms, not just fish or reef inhabitants.

I can honestly say that this salt is the best in the market. I tried Ocean and Coral Life and found the elements; fish happiness and overall water condition are great. The service received was excellent and the product was delivered on time as promised.

Excellent salt for seasoning chicken...jk. Did 5 gallon water change a few days ago and already noticed a difference in all my coral species. Polyps, mushrooms, and flower pot opened up beautifully and fish seem fine. Switched from kent reef salt. Only thing better than salt is natural reef water.

I switched to this from Tropic Marin Pro and all of my corals are growing much faster and have better polyp extension. Like the others have reported, it mixes clean with no residue, so did Tropic Marin. I used Instant Ocean years ago and had the problems with deposits on the mixing tub and pumps. I use a 100 gallon vat now and don't have any deposits in the tank. The one complaint is that the buckets are about the hardest to open that I have even seen. It might be because they have a rubber gasket on the lid, but the tabs are also hard to pry up.

I was previously using Kent Reef Salt mix, but having issues with high Calcium and Magnesium, and very low Alk ( ~5 dKH).
I battled with it for a while, but eventually decided that this was a salt issue.
Having always had good experiences with brightwell's other products, I gave this salt a go.
All my parameters have settled out in good ranges, and my alkalinity issues were resolved by my 3 water change with this salt mix.
My zoanthids seem to be really happy now too.

This is good salt. It is dry, very granular and easy to dissolve. Once in solution the water is crystal clear. It beats Instant Ocean. Iwill not buy any other salt in the future.
I would like to see the packing in smaller packets rath than a single bucket even though I purchase enough for 165 gallons worth at a time.

I have a 90 G mixed reef tank. All the inhabitants are doing well since my slow chang over to Neo Marine Salt mix. I went with Bright because I love their other products, and their customer service (Chris Brightwell has been very helpful to me)The only drawback for me is the amount of salt creep has multiplied by 20 and in many places that didn't creep when I used reef crystal salt mix in the past. However Neo seems to disolve more quickly and my parameters are right on.

I have tried 4 different brands over the past few years and this is the best. The best thing about it is it mixes cleanly and quicker than any other salt. No residue on pumps or bucket and test kits all read out perfect if mixing at 1.026. I don't think there is a better salt, its a huge upgrade over Reef Crystals and in my opinion better than Tropic Marin.

Since starting in the Reef hobby 3 years ago I had only used Reef Crystals and was constantly fighting the low calcium, low Dkh and low Mg. not to mention the fact that according to IO's instructions on the side of their bucket it mixes up at less than NSW specific gravity. I decided to try a different salt and this was the first contendor. The first thing I noticed is it takes a lot less of this product to get a proper SG. I tested all nec. parameters (calc.Alk,and Mg) with salifert tests and got awesome numbers across the board. In the 3 months since switching to this and going bio pellets I have noticed an improvement in my tank it looks so much healthier my coral colors are awesome and even my fish look healthier and more colorful. I am going to be buying another bucket in another month or so and hopefully its consistent with the first if it is I have found my new mix without trying very hard. If oyu are tired of inflated claims and not getting as many gallons of makeup water as claimed this is your new baby. By the way to the reviewer who got chem burns. This stuff is a substance made up of many different chemicals and no matter what salt you use it will all cause burns if not handled properly. The reason you did not get them before is the concentration of your previous salt was not as strong as this. I must also add to go easy when mixing it will get to your desired numbers very quickly and takes some getting used to if you are like me and been messing with subpar salts like RC.
