Comments: I have only been in the saltwater end of the hobby for about 6 months but it didn't take me long to learn that my Red Sea Hydrometer was just a step above guessing. 5 months, frustration and some fish loss later I purchased one of these. I can't recommend this tool highly enough. Just make sure you calibrate it first. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I had been using the LaMotte salinity test set and this refractometer makes the job much easier. Very simple to use and accurate, no second guessing. With 40+ years of fish keeping experience this is one of the best investments I've made. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: My salinity was way off using a hydrometer (even though it measured 1.026) the refractometer showed 1.030. I have tested with it numerous times already during my bi-weekly testing and still shows 1.030. My reef should have shown issues with the salinity testing so high but all the SPS, LPS, and Hippo Tang (which is prone to ich when salinity is off) show no signs of stress. I have only calibrated with regular RO/DI as per the instructions but still yields the same results! Which one to trust? Probably just buy a Hippo Tang and he will show you when the tank is off in salinity. I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I have been using this for a little over two years now reliably. I calibrated only once when I first received and it has yet to need a recalibration (I have checked). Easy to read results make older hydrometers a thing of my past. Very easy to use. Make sure to keep it clean. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I purchased mine in 2/08 and have been very impressed with the quality and ease of use. Large scale and the light feature is an excellent idea, a must have for me. I can't imagine using a refractormeter without the light feature, this tops my list. Although the light malfunctioned recently,they were quick to replace it under warranty, excellent customer service! The replacement I received seems to be even better in terms of quality. Just make sure you put a tread locker on the screws so it doesn't come lose. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I wish I had gotten this sooner. The only drawback is the light apparently has a bad connection because it doesn't always light. It is still easy to read without the light. You don't even want to know how "off" my hydrometer was. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: So accurate, for years i used a glass refractometer by red sea.When i finally got this item i saw that my reading had been off for years.Normally i would get a reading of 1.023-1.024 with the red sea, when tested with this item i was acually at 1.021.I have a 300 gallon reef tank and that was a big deal for me.So yes i advise everyone that has a salt water tank to but this item today.....Nelson Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Easy to use. Kinda dark using indoor broad spectrum fluorescent or indoor incandescent. Very bright in outdoor natural light. My guess is it uses a frequency selective filter. Looks easy to calibrate but mine was dead on when it arrived. Eyepiece allowed adjustment for extreme clarity...beyond what I expected in a consumer product. Has a solid feel to it. At a third of the price of Atago's refractometer, this is a good unit. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: It's easy to use. The calibration was very close when I received it and I've not had to recalibrate it since. The calibration screw has a little cap to protect it from accidental splashes which could cause it to seize. I now have confidence that my hydrometer readings were correct. I paid $20.00 for the hydrometer in 1972 so adjusting for inflation, the refractometer is actually about $30 less expensive than my hydrometer. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
