Re: Cobalt E-X-T 800 Inline Pump
Before I purchased these pumps, I called the USA distributor to insure that the pumps did not have extractables [into the circulating water], because I could not have any contaminates other than what I was testing in the recirculating tank for water testing [not for aquarium use].
These pumps are silent & exhibit no audible vibration even after 1st test unit was running continuously for more than 3 months with tap water and fine suspended mineral particles in the recirculating water.
One problem with the pumps is the clamping area and force of the knurled clamping nuts that are part of the tube barb assembly. These nuts cannot securely hold and prevent leakage with my 5/8" ID X 13/16" OD food/dairy/potable water grade clear Tygon PVC flexible tubing. I had to remove the knurled nuts and result to stainless steel band clamps designed for soft tubing which had to be tightened to the maximum. Possibly, aquarium grade PVC tubing may have worked better but without traceability of the tubing, I could not use it.
It would have been better to have the 360-degree clamping force spiral spring clamps that automotive manufacturers use on modern cooling systems which have plastic fittings. These type of clamps prevent crushing of the plastic fittings. I would like Cobalt to dispense with the knurled nuts and use these. Cost would be the same & regardless of the durometer of the tubing employed tubing connections would be secure and leak free.

This item should be sold with a large font explaining that it needs to be primed and that priming the pump is very difficult! I think MD is a wonderful business with lots of help available, however; I threw this thing away!!!

For the most part the pump works. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is it is not self priming. I use it to transfer RO water from storage containers to my top off and it does that fine once it's primed.

Not bad very quite. I have it installed out side of aquarium as a pull water setup. I had to prime it with another pump until it pulled the water through other than that works great.
