Continuum Aquatics Bacter Clean-M
Bacter Clean•M is a unique marine microbial culture and enzyme product, unlike any other on the market.
- Cleans live rock, live coral stone, tank walls, and other surfaces
- Loosens and cleans coatings and ugly accumulations
- Specifically cultured for Marine systems only
Bacter Clean•M is a unique marine microbial culture and enzyme product specifically designed to target and clean surfaces of live rock, coral decorations and tank walls, removing stains, loosening and softening debris for easy vacuuming and providing a cleaner, more pristine environment. It will outcompete unwanted substances and loosen the grip of ugly accumulations and coatings making their removal by scraping or vacuuming easy. Its exclusive bacterial formula does much of the work for you, to help provide the beautiful reef or marine aquarium you have always wanted. It will also rapidly breakdown organic waste, leftover food, debris and detritus in marine aquariums, providing essential water quality improvement.
Use in Aquarium Keeping:
Continuum recommends that you filter tap makeup water by reverse osmosis, distillation or deionization along with carbon pre-filtration to prevent adding phosphates and silicates to your aquarium. Continuum recommends a phosphate level of less than .02 mg/l (ppm). If you have high phosphate or silicate levels, you can lower them rapidly by using Continuum Captiv•Phos W or Captiv•Phos Fe or liquid Phos•Correx prior to or while using this product. The use of nerite snails, turbo snails, emerald crabs and other grazers is also recommended. Continuum also recommends that you consider using Reef Micro•Fuel, along with the Bacter Clean•M, as an organic carbon source to accelerate the growth and increase the effectiveness of the bacteria in this product. Bacter Clean•M can be used simultaneously with BacterGen•M and BacterGen•MD. If using simultaneously, cut the dosage of each of the other bacterial products in half, and use on different days.
Directions and Protocol:
Place 1 cup (250 ml) of marine aquarium water into a container. Shake product well. Add the recommended amount (see below) of capfuls or ml of Bacter Clean•M to the container of aquarium water. Stir and allow to stand for a few minutes. Add to aquarium in desired location. If also using with BacterGen•M and/or BacterGen•MD, stop their use during the initial two weeks, then cut the addition of those products in half, and use them on different days.
Aggressive dose to rapidly clean filthy aquariums: 6 capfuls (30 ml or one ounce) initially on the first day, then add 1 capful (5 ml) of Bacter Clean•M for every 25 US gallons (100 L) of aquarium volume, daily for 2 weeks or longer, as necessary to achieve your goals. It is important to do a 10-20% water change, using a quality salt mix, after each 2 weeks of high dosage use, vacuuming all debris and undesirable materials from the live rocks and decorations. At this time, unwanted substances should begin to loosen and come off the rocks easily. Daily use may be continued as long as needed, if desired.
Maintenance Dosage for normal aquariums: 4 capfuls (20 ml) of Bacter Clean•M for every 25 US gallons (200 L) of aquarium volume once a week or 3 ml per day.
Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption. Contains non-pathogenic microbes. If in eyes flush with water, if irritation continues, seek medical attention.

Green hair algae

I wasn't keeping a close enough eye on the phosphate level in my tank. As a result as the levels got higher a had a bad outbreak of green hair algae. I started treating my tank with this product and along with vacuuming I'm finally getting the upper hand on this algae. Seems to work excellent for me

So far, so good

I am currently on day 4 of the treatment. My tank has been suffering from some mystery brown algae on the sand and from some spots of cyano. All my water parameters were in line so i decided to try this product. So far my sand looks white and alot cleaner with alot less brown algae. I have also noticed the cyano has diminished quite a bit. I will continue to use the 5ML per day for 2 weeks and report back, but so far so good.

Effective, but not miraculous

I've been trying out Continuum Aquatics Bacter Clean-M, and today is day 15, and the water change is almost done.
While the GHA is far from eliminated, (I had HUGE amounts of it) I had a very hard time siphoning out the water because large clumps of algae kept clogging up the siphon. I ended up having to do the last gallon by turkey baster. There are however some areas of rock nearly clear of algae that I hadn't seen in a while.
It doesn't seem like a miracle cure, but it does seem to be fairly effective at reducing nuisance algae, but not actually eliminating it for me just yet. I still have some left in the bottle and will continue to use the high dosage regimen (one cap a day) until the product is gone.
I think it would be more effective on a tank not as far gone as mine was, or for a longer period than two weeks. My fish don't seem to have noticed this dosing, and my corals, shrimp, crabs, snails and urchin are still alive, so it is reef safe, too.

More than what was expected!!!

The Continuum product in intended to help loosen up and remove detritus buildup in your tank. it contains unique microbial cultures and enzymes to do this. In my case, I was fighing the dreaded dinoflagellates. AAAGGHH!!! I had no clue why they were in my tank. but here I was for the first time in my 13 years of reefkeeping doing battle with them. I tried elevated PH, lights out, chemiclean, purigen, chemipure and all that good stuff. Still had them. I tried 90% water change with new saltwater, and with water from my 180. NOPE still had the nasty brown snot. Enter this product.
I got the product on a monday and tuesday I immediately dosed the 5 gallon tank per the directions on the bottle. however since it was a 5 gallon tank, I cut it in half. so 3 cap fulls initially and since then, I have dosed almost a capful each day (except weekends). After 1 week, it had not returned. I continued dosing for just over 2 weeks. my tank has never looked so good. the water is crystal clear and I am now loving my office nano.
I plan to dose the Continuum product on just a weekly basis to keep this tiny tank happy.
