The IceProbe is the ideal cooling solution for small aquariums. This quiet, reliable, and efficient chiller uses advanced thermoelectric technology to directly covert electricity into cooling power.
With its threaded probe, nylon nut, and silicon washer, the IceProbe, can be easily bulkheaded through a 1.25" hole into siphon overflows, prefilters, sumps, or even directly into acrylic aquariums.
A single IceProbe can cool 10 gallons of water 6-8F below ambient air temperature in a standard aquarium. Multiple IceProbes can be used in a single aquarium to achieve higher temperature differentials.
The IceProbe provides continuous chilling power. A separate temperature controller must be used to turn the the device on or off at predetermined temperatures.
Weighing in at only 2 pounds, the IceProbe® is powered by a separate 12 volt D.C. power supply and draws less than 50 watts.

I purchased this to resolve issues with heating with Metal Halides on a small tank, however, I received it over a month ago and have yet to be able to use it because it's not designed to sit or attach to anything other than a bulkhead. The cooler if very effective, it just can't be connected without doing some sort of mod if you don't have a bulkhead ready. Also, If you plan on doing a mod to a hang on filter, pay attention to the placement so that the probe doesn't interfere with the filter cartridges. I was very annoyed to find out the probe would only fit into my filter where the cartridge went - either no more HOB filter or don't install it.

Works great. Allows me to keep my tank 4 degrees cooler than the room temp. That's what i wanted. Simple design and simple installation.

I put 2 of these on my 20 gallon in the sump and I dont see any difference in temperature, so I put two clip on fans blowing on them to make sure they're getting good airflow and still no change, dissapointing. I guess I will have to buy a regular chiller.

CoolWorks Ice Probe was bought out by Nova Tec, but design is exactly the same. Long story short, buy instead something like Aqua Euro USA Nano CL-85 Chiller ($165, very quiet).
To be fair, Nova Tec says mount Ice Probe directly on a filter. For my compare, I filled two one-gallon glass jars with salt water (store-bought jars, they are very thin). Put some paper insulation on the back half of each jar. I constructed a "cooling tower" out of .25" thick acrylic: 10"x5"x5". Mounted 3 Ice Probes and a very small submersible pump all inside the tower (they are working in parallel). Two 3/8" I.D. siphon tubes complete the circuit. This setup cooled, at best, about 6 degrees F. Way below advertising! Replaced "cooling tower" with the CL-85 (it uses two .5" I.D. connections). I put the same submersible pump in a small external cup of its own (note, one siphon tube gets replaced by the two .5" I.D. tubes). This setup took about 24 hours to lower temperature by 10 degree F. CL-85 holds the temp you set.
This was a fair comparison. Both times the same submersible pump and hot-air exhaust from the nearby chillers tended to reduce the cooling capacity. By the way, each Ice-Probe has a clunky in-series power supply which adds to the clutter. CL-85 is new so I do not have any estimates of how long before breakdown.

I received the CoolWorks Ice Probe a couple of days ago. I am impressed by the quality of the product. It seems very well built. I tried it out immediately and it really works well. Thanks for your fast service too. The package arrived faster then expected.

With my room temperature at about 78 degrees Fahrenheit, the water temperature in my 10 gallon saltwater tank was always at a high temperature of 82 degrees. This was due to the dual, 40w fluorescent lighting, 1 Hydor Koralia Nano (Mini) Circulation Pump, and a Aqua Clear 20 Hang-On-Back Power Filter.
After receiving the CoolWorks Ice Probe, I quickly assembled it and placed the probe inside the reservoir of my Hang-On-Back Power Filter. Within an hour or 2 the water temperature was down to 72 degrees. After calibrating the temperature setting, my tank is now at a constant 76 degrees.
This product works perfectly for me and was well worth the money.

Pros:
I bought this little chiller for a 37 gallon seahorse tank. Seahorses require slightly cooler temperatures, and this does the trick. I installed it on an AquaClear 200 HOB filter, and within 2 days my tank temperatures were averaging 74 degrees during the mid-day with full lights and tank cover on. Ambient temperature in the room is rarely lower than 77. It's quiet and (so far) very effective!
Cons:
Bigger than I thought it would be for some reason. This thing has a definite visual impact on the back of the tank. I "hid" mine behind the 130 watt PC fixture that's on raised legs. If not for the light fixture, I'd be staring at this big boxy contraption all the time. It's not the most elegant thing to grace the back of your tank. The green power light is VERY bright.
Summary:
All the problems are easy fixes. So far I'm very impressed!
