It was more than 5 degrees off when compared to a marine point lab grade thermometer. So far in my experience the worst purchase that I have made.
I would not recommend this product to my friends.

I had this for about 2 years running and it finally died out, got to get some batteries for it, it takes one of those watch batteries i think.

I almost toasted my tank with this thermometer. This thermometer was reading 6 degrees under the current temp. Since it was brand spanking new I thought it was my heater that was out of wack. I turned up my heater to compensate for the low temperature. Long story short I got a different brand thermometer just in time to see my tank temps @ 88 degrees!
I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Skeptical on Accuracy

Comments:
These systems come with an easy to read screen and are simple to install and use. We have these on most of our tanks, but we also have traditional mercury style thermometers as well. We have noticed considerable differences between the two and sometimes doubt that the digital thermometer is accurate. With that said, other times we feel it is dead on. One can't be sure if it is or isn't correct because temperature in the tank (especially in large systems) can vary considerably, especially if you are using a single heating unit and it is on one side. These are a good estimation of temperature, but should be used in conjunction with other temperature reading systems. Finally, the most important element is a high quality and correctly sized (wattage) heater, mounted correctly and near a source of water movement/agitation.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

I've owned two of these units in the last six months. Both were off by more than four degrees. I won't be purchasing another or recommending to other aquarists.

It's a nice thermometer for the price, but you half to check it every once every month with a standard glass thermometer to check that it's accurate.

Mine got stuck in the 82-83 degree range and would not budge. At first I thought there was something wrong with my heater, but the thing was off by 3 degrees. Heater and stick on glass thermometer were in unison at 79-80. THis thing insisted the temp was 82.5-83.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

12 degrees off!!!!!!!!!

I got one of these when I first started my aquarium and it seemed to be working well. After about 6 months though I noticed something was wrong with my tank. At first I thought my heaters were not working right and thus I kept turning them up to try to get the temp to 78. The thermometer would often be reading around 75 so I kept trying to get it up. Everything was dying in the tank. I then got another new one and put it in right next to it just to check...it read 90 degrees! I check the mercury one on my hydrometer and it confirmed it! I quickly rushed in some ice cubes and turned down the heaters. My thermometer had been off by 12 degrees and almost killed my tank! Now I have a cheap mercury one in the tank that I can use to double check the new digital one. I don't even want to think how much money I lost because of this thing. I think I lost 7 corals plus an anemone due to it, and my remaining corals are barely holding on.
I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Nice digital thermometer for the price. I put it in crushed ice and water and it read 30.5 instead of 32 so I have to make a mental adjustment. Hard to beat the price though.

Mine's off by at least 4 degrees. I have the cheaper merc style one in the tank also and its always accurate. I'd just stay with those. This digi one is a waste of money.

I have 3 of these and recently moved everything into one large system. I had one in each tank on the system and they were all a few degrees different, I placed them all in the same tank right next to each other and the same result. I really have no idea what my temp is...

I bought several of these, but became confused when tanks sitting side-by-side showed temperatures of 3+ degrees difference. So I decided to put 3 of the Coralife thermometers in one tank to figure out which one was the "bad" one. What I discovered, after testing about 7 of these, is that they varied as much as 4 degrees when the probes were side-by-side in the same tank. While some variances are to be expected since you cannot put the probes in the exact same location, probes 1" apart from each other should not have a variance of 4 degrees between them. I observed two thermometers display a strange behavior in that they would reach a certain temperature, such as 80 degrees, and then suddenly go into a 'free-fall' of displaying various lowered temperatures until it had dropped to 79 degrees (the drop in temperature took only about 20 seconds). Then they would slowly increase back to 80 degrees (takes about 5 minutes) and then go right back into the free-fall to 79 again. Two thermometers did this at least 3 times in a row. While these thermometers were behaving in this manner, the other thermometers with probes only 1" away would display temps of 81 degrees and higher without any of the 'free-fall' behavior. Very odd. It got to the point, I literally had no idea what the temperature was in the tank even though I had 4 Coralife digital thermometers connected to it. For now, I've had to find the ones that appear to agree the best (within 1.5-2 degrees of each other), and then put 2 of them on each tank. Then I average the difference between the two to guess at what the temperature might be. However, I'm finding that the regular, cheap hang-on glass/mercury thermometers are more accurate and display the temperature faster (important for matching temps for water changes). I will be replacing these thermometers and highly regret buying them. I very strongly recommend avoiding them. They claim to only have a variance of 2 degrees, but my experience indicated up to 4 degrees variance between them.
I would not recommend this product to my friends.
