For many years he has been Chief Scientist at the Australian Institute of Marine Science. Corals of the World is an end product of thirty years of research. It is also very much the outcome of the author`s love of nature and was written for the use and enjoyment of all who appreciate the beauty of coral reefs and who want to know more about the organisms that build them. The scientific editor and producer Dr Stafford-Smith has worked for 20 years on coral reefs worldwide. She specialises in eco-physiological questions and management issues and has an extensive taxonomic knowledge of corals. Through this work she expanded her expertise in information technology and developed interests in other fields, including design. Corals of the World was created through Dr Stafford-Smith`s combined knowledge of coral taxonomy and computer technology.
