Comments: Electrical issues from the power company fried my last pair of pumps. Ordered 2 of these for my 180 gallon aquarium. I've had them running for about a week now. They are quiet and I have no problem pumping from the bottom filtration tank up to the discharge point (about 6' of head pressure). They work well. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Danner's Mag-Drive pumps have a reputation for being extremely reliable, and this is what made me decide to order my own. After seeing these pumps used in friends tanks for years without need for maintenance, and no issues arising with them, I can only assume they are quality products. My concern with the pump adding heat when ran submersed has not been realized, my tank is actually staying cooler even with this pump running. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I purchsed the Mag-drive 5 for my sump/fuge. Pump works great in my application and the noise is tolerable. It is not the quietest out there but fo rthe price you cant go wrong. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This review is for the Mag drive Seven(700gph). All that needs to be said is WOW. This pump is great, I am building a new sump and this thing can pump. My head height from sump to top is 5.5 feet, but still this can put out some water.... My only concern is the vibration from the impeller. You might think its motor noise but rest asssured its just impeller vibration that you can easily fix with some isolation feet on bottom of the motor housing....great pump plan to by another... Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I've been using Mag-drive for 4 years now in my sump and for water changes...sucking out water from tank and clean fresh water back in. It's a great pump if used in sump or inside the tank where its submerged in water. i bought a chiller a month ago and used the mag7 outside of the tank and no sump...this pump generates a lot of heat that it started warping from one of the corners...well water started leaking from the front and the back of the pump. Still a good pump but again if you're only using it in the sump/tank or drum/buckets. one more thing is that parts will have to be replaced every couple of years from wear and tear. I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Good reputation, solid pump, but as warned this steel brick of a pump is LOUD. It especially rattled when I restricted its output with a ball valve 1/8th turn and Im only using flex PVC. Tried everything to quite it down, but still too loud for the living room so its getting demoted to water change pump. Mag 12 is much more silent & acceptable. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: i have used many other return pumps, both internal and external in my 10 years of reefkeeping. this pump is one of the quietest pumps I have used. It seems to work well even though it has been only running for a few weeks. beware of size. when you use the included prefilter it is quite large. takes up quite a bit of room in my sump! Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I've used Mag-Drive pumps for years and they have never failed to impress me. Compact size, low noise, high flow and reliable (I had the last one on my previous tank in continuous use for 8 years). The current one is working on a 54 gallong corner tank, and I've never put this much flow through a single overflow before, but the durso pipe that I'm using is handling the flow easily. The valve that I installed on the return (just in case), hasn't even been necessary. I love these pumps and will definitely use them again. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I got the "2" and I'm very happy with it. It's pretty quiet when it's submerged. I measured it using 8 watts to pump water to a 40 inch head. It comes with a pretty big and coarse black foam filter for the suction side. It also comes with a detachable base plate with 4 screw holes to help you mount it if you want. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Using a 9.5 to drive an AquaC 180, and what a difference! I must have had a weak MagDrive 7 because it just never produced the results I was expecting from that skimmer. Adding a gate valve to control the power allows the AquaC to get dialed in to produce large amounts of foam. Drive runs quiet and only slightly warm. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This thing is working great, Water is pumping up approx 5 ft from sump to top of tank and is moving the water in my tank great. Real quiet unless it sits on the glass in the sump at an angle. To rid this vibration noise just work on suspending it in the water a bit. The only thing that I notice is that when I stop the pump it will grind just a bit on startup. . . this could be due to the fact that I have the true union swing check valve in line and with about 4ft of head pressure on it. But the pump is cheap comes with a prefilter and draws lower power and creates no noticeable heat in my system. If you decide to test it though be aware with no plumbing on it and little water covering the outlet it will shoot a stream of water up and hit you ceiling, LOL. Mine are 7ft in my bathroom and got wet real quick. . . now thats what I call power. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I upgraded from a Mag 9 to a mag 18 as a return pump from my sump which sits in my basement about 8-10' below my main display tank. My new Mag 18 was easily installed, and although *significantly* heavier I notice no increased noise and I have not had to adjust the tempreture of my tank from a heating effect as I am running the pump from inside my sump. The other nice thing is the paddles on the inside of the pump seem to be soft and more of a foam which help keep the noise down if the pump cavitates because of lack of water due to evaporation. All in all I would recommend the pump, its one of the few out there that can put out the head pressure to lift water a floor and dump at a reasonable rate. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: My last Mag7 pump continued to eat eat away at the volute, the impeller didn't seat well for some reason. Occasionally the pump would not restart after water changes. When I took it out of service, the impeller was close to eating through the pump casing, there was even a little evidence of rust inside the impeller housing. No GFCI ever tripped on this pump. I probably had the pump in service for about five years. I opted to try another Mag 7 since I have heard nothing but good reviews of these pumps and have had less than perfect experience with other comparable pumps. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Although with the sticky pad on the bottom of the pump to reduce noise, I still found that there is a slight bit of noise coming from under the stand, but that is to be expected from most pumps that push more than 1200 gallons per hour. All and all I still find it pretty quiet while capable of running a 150 gallon saltwater aquarium with ease. I will definately recommend this product to anyone with a large aquarium. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: These pumps have worked well over the years. The biggest complaint I have about them is that if you use them in an inline configuration...the slightest torque you put on the pump housing when attaching threaded couplings or fittings causes the plastic pump housing to crack. They also crack when you take the housing off to clean the pump and re-attach it. Once you crack the housing it has to be replaced. I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: The product does move allot of water and works very well until it breaks. My first one after a few years died and then I bought another one that is broke again after a little over two years. The impeller shaft seems to snap fairly easily. For me if the power goes out or something odd happens I seem to loose the pump. Which gets old when they are expensive pumps. I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I’ve use the Model 2 for my DYI CO2 reactor (up flow mode). Up flow with this pump’s flow rate tends to generate a fluidized bed which causes very tiny particulates of CaCO3 to be recirculated. The particulates grind between the ceramic shaft and impeller’s bored hole; leaving the hole enlarged and oblong. This has led to excessive noise eventually a seized pump. The fix was redesigning the reactor to be down flow – and buying a replacement impeller. Now, there are now particulates, no noise and impeller lasts a whole lot longer. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I think I over-estimated the amount of headloss I had because I got this pump for my 180gal expecting 9-10 turnover. Had to make some serious adjustments to my overflows. Beware however, as will all big pumps this one needs to sit on something to absorb vibrational energy or else your entire stand will become one big loudspeaker (this pump may be the quietest for the size, but it is LOUD!). Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This is the second Danner 1.9 pump I have purchased for my fountain. The filter needs to be cleaned about every two weeks. The pump is noises, but it does do the job. I only run it during the summer months. The pump will last about three years without repairs. The impeller wears out and can be replaced. Buy extra filters and a impeller. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Starts well almost all of the time, everyo once in a while you have to fool with it, but it pumps great, does good under head pressure. I have only had mine about 9 months so I do not know how long it will last but, so far so good Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I've never had a worse pump in my aquarium. It came with my AquaC Remora and I got it because it got such great reviews and it was high output. It bumped the cost of the skimmer almost 60 bucks but I thought my animals were more than worth it. Now I regret ever having looked this piece of garbage. When we first got the skimmer assembled the pump was making a loud popping noise. Note that the only thing we had to do to the pump was wash it and attach it to the skimmer - no assembly required. I took it apart, cleaned the impeller and housing and put it back together but it was still popping. Everything we found on the internet said that it would eventually stop and it did but here it is six weeks later it's well on it's way to an early death. When we do water changes, the skimmer is unplugged and when we plug it back in the pump won't start circulating water until it's been removed from the water and allowed to pump air for a couple of seconds and then put back into the water. We've taken it apart, cleaned it, cleaned the housing and the same results. It powers on because we can feel the motor vibrating but the pump will not circulate until we lift it out of the water. And those are just the mechanical defects: This thing sticks out a quarter of the way into my aquarium from the back glass; it's way bigger than it needs to be and it so ugly that I went back and bought the surface skimmer just to hide the power head. Don't waste your money here; go with a Maxi-Jet. You'll be much happier and have a much longer power head life. To give proper credit, the surface did help with the skimming . . . it increased the output from our tank about thirty percent. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: It's an ok pump, however it only lasted about 2 years for me. I use mine on a top-off system so it's not even working full time. Pump stopped working after 2 years. Tried replacing the impeller, which is usually what fails. Turned out it was the main part of the motor that failed, so I had to replace the whole thing. I now have 2 spare impellers. Still beter than a REO though. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

I have also used them to run skimmers too. However I was a bit suprised when this last pump was ordered and then didnt work. It took a phone call to a Tech Rep at Marine Depot and some tweaking and a little work with some tools before I could finally got the pump working as advertised. Its now working like a champ as they all have in the past. Obviously quality control has fell a bit in the newer manufactured pumps. While I would still use them, Im not sure I could recommend them without some reservation. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I have to shut it off when i changing the water, it can have starting problems and I have to take it out and hit it. Then I have to connect the pipe as fast as possible otherwise it will pump all the water on my floor -_- Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Mag Drive makes awesome aquarium pumps, however, the intake housing on the 2-9 series is a lighter plastic than the mag 12-36. Consequently when threading piping into this intake for external use (such as calcium reactors) it is prone to cracking, it's also a little loud for inline use. Submersed, these things are great! I use them for my chiller & UV sterlizer! Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I bought this almost 7 years ago and used it on a Remora Pro skimmer. It was pretty quiet, strong flow, and well made...worth the $45 or so that it cost. This would make a good return pump for smaller tanks, also good for certain skimmers and other applications. The metal screws are the only bad part but you can buy different screws- no problem at all. IME the Mags are much better than Rios, no comparison there. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: A great little pump. Just the thing to recirculate my 1/2 barrel & antique cast iron well pump 'dribbler'. (The birds love it.) I just replaced an older one that seized up after 3 or 4 years. (Understandable.) Only thing: I wonder if a better filter could be devised so that it wouldn't get clogged with algae & leaves so often. (Needs cleaning weekly?) Other wise, no problem--a good little little pump. GS (Chicago) Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: It works. Only thing is it does give out after a year or so. I've gotten three of them in as many years. I would get another because its small enough for my sump, and it has good flow. I don't know, maybe it's me , that's why I bought another one. This is a company that actually backs their prices too. I will continue to buy here because they seem to have good customer service whenever I call. That reminds me I need a uv light. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I bought this pump with the remora skimmer. It did a terrible noise and broke the impeller few hours later. I bougth a new impeller and the pump did the same terrible noise again so i turn off it. I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I bought two pumps for my two top-off systems and I was very disappointed to find out that the pump comes with four metal screws to retain the magnetic propeller. It does not seem to be a big problem if you are moving water on a dead fountain, but we all know how sensitive our fish and reef animals are to foreign elements including iron and metals. I would definitively not recommend this pump or any like it to anyone. Very disappointed indeed!! I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Better than Beckett by KG

Comments: Better than Beckett: impellor replaceable, takes less power. Like the other reviewer, it took me several calls to factory for warranty help. I have several 9.5's. They're a bit noisy but good. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Great Pump! by Gary

Comments: The Danner supreme mag-drive pumps are perfect for submersion or external. Place felt pad between the pump and sump and ensure the output hose doesn’t touch the sump lid to eliminate noise. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
