Why does BRS recommend the Ecotech Marine Radion?

Quite simply, Ecotech Marine Radions are the LED’s we most often choose to light our own tanks. With the chance to use just about any light we want, there are probably more Radions in use around BRS than any other LED fixture. Through years of experience, we’ve seen the proven results in our growing, thriving reefs.

From Aquaculture to the home aquarium, there is a high likelihood that the coral you know and love has been grown or “colored-up” under a generation of Radion Pros.

The Best Keeps Getting Better

Radions are the standard in aquarium lighting for a reason. Each generation has built upon the successful results of the last, incorporating the latest in design and technology to bring us a state-of-the-art light that blends proven results with greater ease of use. Ecotech Marine has spent significant time and effort in developing and testing lighting programs, such as the popular SPS AB+, that deliver maximum results from their fixtures and bring out the best in our corals.

Next Level Color

Color from the G5 is impressive. Blue or Pro, your coral will pop. With the G5 Pro, you get a more even distribution of spectrum for a balanced and natural lighting setup that can emulate metal halide output. G5 brings speed of growth, intensity of fluorescence, and nuance of color rendition to new heights. Crafted with the best LEDs, the optimized output from next-generation HEI Optics, and more color channels, Gen 5 is in a class of its own.

Beyond Peak PAR

More powerful than ever before, the Radion lineup delivers more coverage per fixture. The Radion’s optical system provides smooth color mixing, wide but even spread, and balanced intensity that fills the aquarium. The new single cluster design and optimized HEI Optics cut hot-spot PAR by 30% while providing 35% more total output. In the aquarium, this translates to more usable light over more area, creating the widest possible ideal par from your coral.

Advanced Heat Management

EcoTech Marine aims to produce the most minimally intrusive reef aquarium equipment available. The G5 continues to showcase Radion’s sleek styling and small footprint, but is now even quieter. A completely redesigned fan and newly evolved heatsink cool the Gen 5 more efficiently, allowing the fan to run at lower speeds. Your ears will notice a difference.

Moonlight

The Generation 5 sets the mood with two dedicated low output moonlight LEDs, each on an independently controllable channel.

Mobius Control

More colors mean more channels, and with Mobius, programming and controlling your G5’s increased power is even easier and faster. Mobius means almost instant setup and programming. Local wireless control and programming can be accomplished with either current OS version iOS or Android smart device. Off-site WiFI control is missing from the G5 at launch but will be enabled in the near future. Once again, the Radion will set new standards for technologically advanced and innovative control.

Mounting

Ecotech offers multiple types of mounting solutions for the G5 family of Radion LED lights. From full tank track systems letting you use multiple G5 Radion lights, to single light RMS mounting arms and hanging kits.

Gen 4 Tank Mount with Gen 5 Adapter Bundle - Currently, official Gen 5 Mounting Arm Kits have an extended ETA, however the only change to these kits is the RMS slide mount. We currently have Tank Mounts with the Gen 5 adapter bundled together which will contain all necessary parts to make this a Gen 5 Mount which will work seamlessly with your XR15 G5.

RMS Mounting Arm - New with Gen 5 are RMS single mounts and accessories. The new single mount RMS kits for the XR15 and XR30 will also work with all previous models of Radion. Upgrade kits to update original RMS kits to be G5 compatible are also available. The new X-Bracket assembly raises the light an additional 1/2 inch without increasing the bracket height. Lights may be mounted at 90-degree increments.

RMS Track SystemThe 3 piece system lets you mount multiple Radion lights in a single track that lets you slide them back and forth to create the best coverage for your tank. The multi-light rail kit is available in lengths up to 8ft and is perfect for larger tanks, letting you use either a hanging kit to suspend the track system or the RMS Arm Kit for a tank mounting option. RMS multi-light kits work with both XR15 and XR30 model lights or a mixture of both. All new G5 X-Brackets fit the existing RMS multilight kit.

RMS Hanging Kit If tank mounting is not an option for your multilight rail - or you prefer an even more minimal aesthetic - hang the multi-light rail. New G5 X-Brackets for the XR15 and XR30 are sleek and bring the lights 1/2 inch closer to the rail.

Product Questions

Would one of these be okay to light and grow acros in reefer 200xl?
Question by: Tanner Bradford on Mar 19, 2022, 10:54 AM
Hey Tanner, thanks for the question! The xr15s are rated for 18x18". I would recommend an Xr30 for that size tank if going with SPS dominant

Answer by: Matt Lucero (BRS Staff) on Feb 11, 2022, 12:48 PM
Would one of these over an 16” cube be strong enough to keep sps dominant?
Question by: Joshua Zises on Dec 30, 2021, 6:17 PM
Hello Joshua,

Thank you for the question. Yes, this would be a great fixture for an SPS dominant aquarium with the 16" Cube dimensions.

CAN YOU CONTROL THE LITES WITHOUT MOBIOUS WI FI SET UP
Question by: Dave powers on Dec 15, 2021, 1:05 PM
Hey there. Thank you for reaching out. There are control buttons on the light that allow some rudimentary control but Mobius is much better. You do not have to connect the lights to WiFi to control them via the Mobius app and can connect to them directly from your phone.
Answer by: William Glenn (BRS Staff) on Dec 16, 2021, 1:56 PM
Are the Gen 5s Apex compatible?
Question by: Van on Mar 9, 2020, 5:05 PM
Hey there,

There is currently no G5 to Apex interface. I am not sure if they will make an interface with the Mobius coming out as well.

Take care

Would 2 XR15 G5's be sufficient to cover a Waterbox 130.4 (Dimension of tank: 48"l x 24"w x 22"h)? Thanks!
Question by: Rob on Mar 9, 2020, 2:46 AM
Hi there,

Unfortunately not, the spread would be insufficient. I would go with a minimum of 3, 4 if keeping dominant SPS.

Take care
