EcoTech Marine Vortech Battery Backup
Information
This product is for any serious aquarium hobbyist that owns or plans to own an EcoTech Marine VorTech pump. In 4 - 10 hours of no flow, an aquarium with all its fish and corals begins to die. Buy time, it`s rarely for sale.
By adding the Battery Backup, your tank is insulated from power interruptions for up to 20 hours with the MP60w, 36 hours with the MP40w, 72 hours with the MP10w and 16 hours with the Radion XR30w.
*The precise run-time of the pump on battery backup mode will depend on the age of the battery and the speed setting of the pump.
Product Features:
- Reef Tank Insurance in an aluminum housing.
- Backup power for 30 or more hours on a VorTech Pump.
- Can Connect to another Battery Backup for 2X the run time.
- One battery linked to two pumps yields approximately half the total run time.
- Comes with Trickle Charger so you`re always prepared.
- Complete package comes with all the wiring cables needed to power two pumps.
Product Benefits:
- Designed to power the EcoTech Marine VorTech Pump.
- Knowing you are a responsible reef keeper.
- Vacation better. Sleep better. Peace of mind.
Specifications:
- 18 Amp-Hour 12-volt sealed battery.
- Powder-coated white aluminum housing.
- Dimensions (L x W x H): 9″ x 7″ x 3.25″
Instructions for Use:
The charger should be plugged into the wall and plugged into the charging port as indicated on the side of the battery backup. The charger should remain plugged in at all times. The provided cables can then be plugged into your VorTech pump. You may run two pumps off of your battery backup but doing so will reduce the total run time for each pump by approximately one-half. To double the run time, you can connect two batteries together in a daisy-chain fashion using the provided cables.
Basic Information:
The VorTech’s wave driver constantly monitors the incoming 24-volts of DC power coming from the wall. When the wall power ceases during a power outage, the driver seamlessly switches to the 12-volts coming from the battery backup to provide emergency circulation. The precise run-time of the pump on battery backup mode will depend on the age of the battery and the speed setting of the pump.
The battery backup should be maintained around 70deg F to keep it in optimal condition. The life of the battery will also depend on the number of discharges that the unit has been cycled through. Every time the unit is cycled, the life of the battery and its capacity is reduced.
Manufacturer Info
EcoTech Marine has revolutionized the way people think about water movement in reef aquariums. Our technologically superior pumps produce unmatched broad yet gentle flow, while placing the motor outside the tank—preserving the beauty of your aquarium and enhancing the health of your aquarium ecosystem. The EcoTech leadership team consists of aquarium enthusiasts and engineers with a penchant for challenging the status quo. When EcoTech took root in the science labs of Lehigh University and University of Oklahoma, we realized there were serious differences between the native aquatic ecosystems in nature and the terrestrial habitats created in aquariums—and that little was being done to address this gap in the marketplace. Since that day, we have worked tirelessly to improve the “state of the art” to enable our customers to have the healthiest, safest and smartest aquarium possible. That’s why our products offer a wide variety of easy-to-program modes and have been thoroughly tested and endorsed by marine-biologists—making it the most versatile and life-like pump on the market.

One of the greatest thing on a market. Definitely like it, keep my pumps and light on for ~24 hours. Why 4.5 stars? Cuz of the weight and size of this battery, with the limited room under your tank not really "portable", buy everything else couldn't be any better.

I was a bit hesitant to buy this because of the cost. However, after realizing how much I spent on the MP40 and the total cost of the inhabitants of my reef, it was a no brainer. If you have the Vortech pumps than I strongly advise you to spend the extra money on some sound insurance. I did a quick test and shut all power to my tank, without missing a single beat the mp40 went into battery mode. The battery pack weigh a ton and feels well made. I'm very happy with it.

It works as advertised. The parts inside should be constructed intact because it feels like the parts move inside when you shake it. It should be solid as it is as a whole. A water change button would be nice.

this battery back-up is only for linkable ecotech marine wavemakers and led fixtures. just an FYI. This thing is solid and heavy. Makes you feel youve gotten your moneys worth. good investment for the money youve already put in your tanks. It would be nice if theyd put some sort of light on this so you can tell its charging or not since batteries dont last forever. other than that as expected.

If you care about your Aquarium and want to ensure its well being then this is an absolute must have. When the power goes out this unit keeps your Vortech going and going like the Energizer bunny! I have it hooked up to an MP10 and it will keep the water circulating in my tank for 3 days. Get this battery, plug it in and forget about it. One day you will be glad you did!!!

Lost power the backup worked as it's supposed to the first time, just lost power again tonight and it failed me. I spent way too much money on Eco tech products to have failures like this!

I have only tested for power loss but it worked like a champ. I had a heater go bad which flipped the braker I lost several fish and a few shrimp. Wish I would have had this sooner.

Item is smaller than I thought, but very heavy. You can anchor into wall fairly easy despite the weight. I cut my power off to test it and it works great. My only issue is the price. I think it could be cheaper. Vortech is a good company with great customer service. This battery is a great insurance policy.
