Energy saving, powerful, extremely efficient, and convenient.
With only 5 Watt power consumption and a pump output of 160 gph, the Ecco Pro is one of the most energy efficient filters on the market. Compared to similar filters it uses 44% to 75% less energy.
Excellent mechanical and biological filtration is achieved via optimum water flow. An additional prefilter captures dirt particles right at the beginning. In this way, the subsequent filter material is protected and cleaning intervals are longer.
The characteristic multi-function handle fulfills 3 functions. Depending on its position, it acts as a carrying handle and lever for opening, closing, or priming. Wrong use is rendered impossible due to the red safety catch.
The supplied shut-off taps are rotatable. You can thus turn them to make them more easily accessible. Water flow is adjusted by the outlet tap.
EHEIM High Performance Ceramics ensure very quiet running, high resilience and extremely long service life.
The filter canisters are equipped with practical filter baskets. These baskets can easily be removed and filled according to individual requirements. The number of baskets is determined by the size of the filter: Ecco Pro 130 = 1 basket, Ecco Pro 200 = 2 and Ecco Pro 300 = 3 baskets.
The filter baskets come pre-filled with original EHEIM filter media.
- Multi-functional handle. A secure connection between pump and housing is guaranteed when the handle is closed and in carrying position.
- Integrated priming support for starting water circulation, allowing easy filter start-up. - Quick removal of pump head with its fixed sealing ring. The handle opens the filter for easy cleaning.
- Complete with mechanical, biological and absorptive filter media filling.
- Filter inserts guarantee the easiest possible handling and are also perfectly suited to individual application of filter media for layer filtration.
- The swivel-and-swing hose connections are fitted with detachable safety taps.
- The filter flow rate can be adjusted to requirement.

This is my third Eheim ECCO Canister Filter; I broke one. I have two set up on my aquarium and I love the quiet operation and the ease of cleaning. With arthritic hands, I would prefer they had a button prime, or something a bit easier than the pump handle, but if I break one of these, I will purchase another. The best I've tried so far without getting into the really expensive setups.

The construction and craftsmanship of this filter is top notch. It looks like Eheim took the time to design the filter and not just slap together generic filter parts. The filter worked great out of the box. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. The illustrations also helped with the setup. The box conatins a fine and a course filter pad. It also comes with free media which is enough to fill the media baskets. Operation is smooth and silent. I can barely hear the pump running. This may be discomforting at times because I frequently have to come up close just to verify the pump hasn't failed. But this is something I can definitely live with!
Maintenance of the filter was simple. The handle made it easy to carry the filter around. No screws are used to secure parts that needed to be clean frequently. Most parts just snap on and off or slide into place. This allow for a quick and easy service. These parts seem durable and don't feel flimsy or sloppy so I don't see a problem in them breaking off anytime soon. The impeller assembly was easy to remove and clean.
The only thing that I might dislike were the green hoses. I wish they were a darker color so they don't stand out in my tank. But this is just my opinion and totally subjective. I guess you could hide it with plants or some decorations.
I have a 40 gallon breeder tanks and the 2236 works perfectly for it. I have the fitler for about 4 months now and have not had any issues. Base on previous experiences with other Eheim's products and filters I am expecting that this filter will last for a long time. I would definitely recommend this product.

Love my new Eheim ECCO filter. My 30 gal tank is so good, I've never seen the water this clean and clear with the filter. Clause and Briggit (my split tail pot belly gold fish and Red cap Oranda) are so so happy. Should have bought an Eheim ECCO filter in the beginning. I lost one of my favorite orange and white patch gold fish (Popper) due to dirty water. He had a great personality and would pop air to tell me to feed him and used to frolic through the tank. I miss him. Love this Eheim ECCO filter. Thank you so much.

I just set this filter up two hours ago and my tank is noticeably cleaner. Its super easy to set up, all you do is take it out set it up and plug in. No need to buy anything else. The media that comes with it is pretty good I think, you could upgrade to better stuff though but good to start off. Also it is SUPER quiet. I will have to buy another one to ditch my other filter. One con is the tubes they are green I wish they were black so they weren't so noticeable but I guess thats just a small issue. Overall great product!

I just swapped out the Eheim ECCO 80 for a Fluval 404 that I'd been using for 7 years on my 45 gallon tank. Out of the box, I was impressed with the design of the Eheim, and its ease of mobility and access to the filter medium. It is smaller and easier to manipulate than the Fluval. The handle eases portability. The locking mechanism and auto-prime work like advertised, and set up was a snap. I can't say that I like the green tubing with "Eheim" stamped all over it, but that's aesthetics. The "return" pipe is a bit short, and its bend is a bit too wide to easily suction cup it to the tank wall. In operation, the pump has been silky quiet and powerful. The Fluval filtered well, but moving it around for cleaning was a challenge as it lacks decent hand-holds, and removal of the top motor component from the canister was always a task. And whether from age or design, it just was not as quiet as the Eheim. The proof will be in the pudding when I break down the Eheim for its monthly cleaning, but so far, so good, and I couldn't be more pleased. I could easily give it 5*, but will await the cleaning.

I have always been a huge fan of Eheim filters. I currently have 5 different models. I love the ECCO for its super easy functioning. Easy to clean, easy to operate. I use these on my smaller tanks, which is great because they only take up a small space, yet provide excellent filtration.

When I move the multi-use handle down to remove the top, the top hangs on even though the handle is all the way down (yes, it's below the safety catch. Also this filter needs to be well under the top of the tank or it loses its prime. This is a bit of problem for me since my tank is low to the floor.
