this filter is the best that i have use. I been through quite a few filters and this is the best one so far. Easy to clean, keeps the water clear and fast. use this filter in my 120 gallon tank and i do not have to clean the filter for a few month at a time. i would recommend this filter for the ease and less maintenance.

This is definitely a great filter. So quiet that I don't even notice it if I didn't see it. Self Priming is a wonderful feature compared to the old canisters I used to have years ago but instruction manual could be more detail about this feature during setup. Took me little over an hour to setup. Mostly due to the trying to get the filter to prime. No longer a problem now that I understand it.
I've only had it for a week so must observe longer to see the effectiveness of it. I have great water parameters prior to installing it but I my fishes are young and small. I am preparing for my Arowanas to grow larger and handle the bio-load. I'm lovin it so far especially at the price I paid for at PetStore.com.
Lets hope it'll last the test of time.

this filter is great, very powerful made the fish hide for the first 2hr or so waiting for them to come out I was tired. I went to bed, the next morning there they were out had gotten used to it. even makes them more active. Sure cleaned up the water in my tank overnight. Hard to say anything bad about it worth the money had others that didn't cut it. Looks like it will be easier to maintain.

Should really get 3 1/2 stars. I've had this unit for three years and can report that it is very quiet, effective, and reliable. Like all canister filters, its weakness is in the seals. When the main canister seal failed, it was not a disaster. I replaced the readily available seal and restarted. Then came the disaster. The seal in the starting plunger was cut by calcareous build-up. This seal is not available as a repair part and the plunger is not accessable for cleaning or service. I restored my filter to service by permanently siliconing the plunger in the cylinder. I have to start the filter the old fashioned way: with suction. The lesson: If you use this filter on a reef aquarium,DO NOT USE THE PRIMING PLUNGER TO RESTART THE FILTER. Use it once when new, and the tape a warning on it

I've owned this pump for three weeks now running full time on a 60 gallon turtle tank. My cabinet didn't have any doors for 2.5 weeks and I could never hear this pump running. It's almost completely silent. It does a excellent job of keeping the tank clean. Turtles are notoriously messy and her tank is still spotless after three weeks, no cleaning. I would have liked more options for the water outlet besides just the spray bar. The turtle likes a slight current in her tank and I had to modify the existing bar to achieve that. I also had to modify the pickup tube making it longer. Luckily the system modifies easily if you know what you're doing. The only thing that I was completely disappointed about was the pump to prime system. Did not work at all. The system would not automatically prime no matter what I tried. Fortunately they put caps at the top of the hose assemblies making it easier to fill from there.
Overall the filter works great and does a terrific job filtering. It's extremely quiet. Eheim still needs to do some work on the set up of the system with more options and getting the priming system right.

I replaced my 5 year old Rena Filstar XP3 with the 2028, and I am never going back. This filter is much better designed to prevent water from bypassing the filter media. I was going to get the Classic 2017, but after shipping, this was only $25 more, and it is self priming! This truly is the best filter on the market.
