Comments: I was skeptical spending 60 bucks on a vacuum. I bought this to vacuum detritus out of my sump and it does not do the job. I might as well use the old maxi jet and filter sock method. I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: It does exactly what I needed it to do. It extracts the sludge from the bottem and does not disturb the fish. So super product and I would recommend it to anyone looking for sludge removal that is simple. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Not for Sand Bottoms by KEITH MAGILL

Comments: Well first of all the unit is the best design I have seen. It has plenty of power and would be great if I had a gravel or course sand bottom. With fine sand the unit pulls-up the sand with the dirt. The sand gets into the impeller which jams the unit, even with just skimming the top layer. So unfortunatley the unit does not work for me. Back to siphoning. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: frame is cheaply built and one of the flanges broke off while removing filter- works better with sand than gravel - I will continue to use it Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I bought this based on favorable reviews and was not disappointed. The Eheim Sludge Extractor had plenty of pull to clean the top-mid layer of gunk off the small rocks in my 100 gal freshwater tank, but is not a replacement for siphon-style vacuuming. It is very quiet to operate and tall enough that I didn't get my hand wet using it. It is very easy to clean, just pop the screened section out and rinse. I usually deep vacuum half the gravel each week, which siphons 20-25% of the water. With the Eheim, I can clean the other half as well without replacing more water. Very nice! Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I Could Not Wait For This To Come In... Fast Delivery . UPS Wasnt Even Off Our Road And I Had It In The Tank , Cleaning. It Works Great In My Tank I Have A Gravel Bottom. The Tank Houses Koi & Goldfish, That Winter In The House. Spring Thru Late Fall In My Water Garden Out Doors. These Fish Really Know How To Dirty A Tank. The Sludge Extractor Suck Everything Up No Clogging. Easy To Use And Take Appart To Clean Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: The vacuum does what it's generally supposed to, but I wish the vacuum would have an on and off switch that would actually stay on without having to hold it. It gets tiring on your hand after a few minutes. Also, for as expensive as it was, it doesn't seem to be constructed in a high quality way... in other words it "feels cheap." I've noticed this with one other Eheim product I purchased also(a self feeder that the battery cover kept popping off of, turning off the feeder and defeating the purpose of the $50 piece of equipment)-- maybe Eheim just knows that it's among the only producers of these products so it does not need to make quality products. After using it, I ended up using my gravel vac siphon anyhow-- maybe it will work better on my larger 29 gal. tank. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: The actual concept is great, Yet all it needs is a touch more power. Actually if it had the extra power and some attachments (eg. Rock scrubbing brush vacuum) this product would be 100% excellent. I wish there was a way to boost it. Im sure that the next one they bring out will be the best thing since sliced bread. Comments: I do not have anything negative to say about it so far. I have seen reviews where the customer was very dissatisfied, but I am not. It does clean the tank well. The only thing that I recommend is that you come up with a small part to attach to clean corners, small places behind decorations. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I was very lucky to find this item at half off the retail price, after I had a major die-off of my beloved pet fish. YES, they are my PET fish, and I love them very much!! As you all know, you can ask 10 fish "experts" (I use this term very loosely) for a solution to a problem, and all 10 will give you different answers. One of the various "experts" I spoke to recommended a type of vacuum, and I did my due diligence online, and saw that many people raved about this EHEIM product, so I gave it a shot. It definitely works - is quite easy to put together, is easy to use and sucks the crap out of your tank. Mine is about 45 gallons and I've used the EHEIM Sludge Extractor twice in the week that I've received it, and will probably use it on a weekly basis at this point, after never needing anything like this in the 20 years since I started my tank. I really appreciate the WWW and people who take the time to write reviews - I hope that I help people the way those before me helped me judge this product - it is well worth the investment, even at full price!! Comments: A gravel vac that keeps things nice and tidy, without the need for removing and replacing water. Good if you frequently vac alot, and don't want the hassle of having to refill your tank. The suction is just strong enough to still be able to pick up fairly large particles (and even decaying plant matter and small bulbs), but is light enough not to bother small fish and frogs. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Thanks to all of the reviews, my husband was able to know what problems to expect like a problem with the battery cover. Yet, I still wanted to try the product to get rid of sludge in the sump. My husband happened to see one at a local pet store, and told the clerk he was interested in purchasing one and asked to look at it first though. He explained to the clerk about the battery cover problem and the leaking. The clerk said, "So that's what all these covers are". So he purchased one with a good cover and it works great. The batteries that came with it were dead, but that wasn't a big deal. I was having a problem with my phosphate levels and now they are almost perfect. If I wait another water change, they should be perfect at that point. The top where the batteries go needs to be kept above water or will form rust. I also air the top, just in case water got in. I use it in the sump mostly, so no small pieces get stuck in the impeller. A must have, if you know what to expect and thanks to all of you we did. Thanks you for taking the time to leave a review. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
