| I have recently aquired a morish idol fish. He's been in the tank now for two days and he's just now coming to the front of the aquarium so I can get a real good look at him. He's a beutiful fish but I noticed today that he has little white specks on him. This is either part of his colors or its the ick. Does anyone know if these little white specks are just part of his natural color or do I need to medicate the tank. If anyone knows of a good upclose picture I can view that would help as well.

| it is more than likely your fish has ick. you can either take the fish out of the tank and cure it or cure the entire tank.

Hello,
Unfortunatly it does sound like your fish has Ick I do recommend you take him out of your system and treat him for ick. Do any of your other fish have signs of ick? Remember that ick will drop into the sandbed making it appear that it went away but its actually its breeding cycle and more will come back. It takes about 2 1/2 weeks to completly be sure you got rid of Ick.
Cheers,
Henry C.

Idols are well known for being hard to keep/delicate/bad eaters.
Heniouchus "Banner fish" are simmilar in color (but not quite as striking) and much more hardy than Idols.
Try Kick-Ick. It works for most people. Follow directions exactly.
16yrs FW, 10yrs SW. It changes from time to time, but as of 9/26/07 - 125 FW Oscar/Pleco, 55 Community FOWLR/30 gal. sump, 40 QT, 20 Planted FW, Aquarium maintenance side business.

Make sure to buy lots of sponges for your tank, thats the only thing they eat.

| Welcome Coke828 to Marinedepot.com! Thanks Anthony for moving this thread to this forum. In order to help your moorish idol, please provide some additional information so we can best diagnose and treat your fish. Did you get you moorish idol from a LFS or another hobbyist? What size display tank do you place it in or is it in quarantine? Are there any other fish in the tank? What are your water parameters? (pH, Specific gravity, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, temp) Is your moorish idol eating? If so, what is it eating? Where are the white spots you are seeing - body, fins, eyes....? Can you post a picture of the moorish idol? I agree with Jtlanders in that moorish idols are difficult to keep and really should be left in the ocean. With that said, you have one and we need to come up with an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan and work on husbandry of this fish. A good friend of mine, Daniel Knop in Germany has successfully kept a moorish idol for several years in his tank (of course his is over 1000 gallon reef tank), so it can be done by a very experienced and dedicated person. Please post answers so we can help. Thanks for your question.
Kelly
