I have had problems in my 55 gallon fresh water aquarium with chemical build ups and cloudy water all the time. No matter what I tried, I could not get the tank to clear up. The Aquarium Manager recommend the Fluval 306. WOW!!! I was amazed at how easy this was to install, cleared up the cloudy tank over night. The balance is perfect, water crystal clear. Fish are playful! This is a fantastic pump/filter system. Highly reccomend the Fluval for any aquarium filtering system. David ShaverSanford Florida

I've had this filter running for one week now, and my fish are thriving again. My nitrates have been cut in half, and the water is polished to a crystal clear finish. Truly the best investment I've made to my set-up.

I have 55g overstocked with Characidae, Fluval 305 and 105 running 1 year. Easy to maintain, change media, etc. Tank has good chemistry. Be careful of the buildup in the ribbed hoses. the hoses permit the growth of a white feathery like substance. When I turned my filter on after changing media, it looked like a snow storm in the tank. It has happened 3 times in the past year. I keep forgetting about it and it makes quite a mess. I am looking to replace the hoses with smoothe vinyl. Product works very well and is priced right. I Am considering a pair of 406's for a 90g setup I'm planning for this spring.

This filter is amazing! We hook up the filter one night and the next morning, the tank was super clear. We never saw my tank this clear and clean. Our fishes and plants look more healther. The product is a bit pricey but works really good. I highly recommend this to everybody.

For the past four months, I have used a Fluval 106 for my 20G reef tank, and my girlfriend just bought a 406 for her turtle tank. I have no qualms about the performance of the 106 or 406--they both do a great job. Replacing the media is extremely easy due to the AquaLock valve, which allows you to disconnect the filter without having to reprime. A tiny bit of water comes out when removing the valve, but nothing a standard washcloth can't prevent. I became quite relieved after learning how easy it is to maintain. While the construction of the filter is *solid*, I must give it 4 1/2 stars because the primer seems a bit flimsy. Fluval has also made it very easy to replace parts by creating more stringent standards. I recommend this product for anyone looking for a new canister filter. Two thumbs up.

Bought the 406 for my 90 gal FOWLR tank...couldn't believe the improvement of clarity. Clarity went from a 7 to a 10 in one day. It's very quiet, must touch it to see it's running. Be sure to read directions carefully..especially concerning the hoses. Don't cut them until you have properly measured your distance. Also remember this is a gravity fed cannister. Great product...won't regret buying it.

This filter saved me and my fish. I have a small 3 gallon cylindrical tank, yea, crazy to put a filter as big as this on it, but it works great. It also increases the water volume. I used the 206 and filled the middle basket with Seachem Matrix and the top basket with Seachem Purigen. The bottom basket contains the default biofoam that comes with the filter. My water has been crystal clear with 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and only 5 ppm nitrate from startup to 5 weeks later.
The filter is easy to clean, easy to start up and easy to maintain.
One thing to note, the 106 has only two media trays where the 206 & 306 have 3. I think the 406 has 4. I wanted three media baskets so that's why I used the 206 over the 106. If I were to buy it again I think I probably would have gotten the 306 to add more water volume since the flow can be controlled.
So far I have had no problems with any water leakage. I really like the host disconnect system. It maintains the prime on the hoses with no loss in water when detaching it from the housing. The shut off valve also acts as a water flow constrictor. So you can control the water flow through the canister quite easily.
It's quiet. I have to put my ear close to it to hear that it is running.
So I have nothing but good things to say about this filter coming from a beginner. This is my first tank started in early December and prior to this filter my tank was a complete failure.
