Huge Flow with K-8!!!

Comments:
I've got the Koralia 8 on a 300g 6'Lx30"Dx36"H Peninsula style tank and it's used to push water from one end to the other. It replaces a Rio+ 2500 pump. There are also 2 sump outlets at the same end of the tank that are pushed by 2 separate Iwaki pumps. The K-8 gives excellant push in the 6' long water column without disturbing or freaking the fish out (Monster fish including Peacock Bass, 2'+ Sailfin Cat, dinner plate sized Redhooks & Pacu and 2 other smaller cichlids). This tank now has the strong (but smooth) current I've been looking for without blowing the fish away thanks to the Koralia 8. It's perfect for Monster Tanks that house fast current loving species like the Zebra Shovelnose Catfish (Brachyplatystoma tigrinum). I also got it on sale for only $87.99. That was a steal since most other sites online were regularly selling it between $130-$170 which makes the regular $109.00 Marine Depot price tag still a steal.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

would be be nice if they started making the power cords on the outside at a decent price. instead of $250 for one that has power cord outside the tank. 2 #4s are good enough for me though, any more power and my tank would levitate.

I had a Red Sea Wavemeker out in my garage for the last couple of years, in a box, because I could not find powerheads that were quiet enough. I read about the Korilia 5's and ordered them, and dug the Red Sea wavemaker out of its box. Yes, they are big, but not much larger than the Koralia 4's that I was using before. Once they color up with coraline algae, it won't be so bad! In my 5' 100 gallon reef, they are very impressive, and very quiet! That is important, as the tank is in my living room! Finally, a setup that you don't have to mortgage your house to afford!

I purchased two Magnum 5 series for my 180 and put them on a wave maker system. They work great, don't have the start up noise the older series pumps make, and move water nicely. I am very happy with them.

I had this powerhead going for a few days. Silent on start up and silent running. Almost to much in my 120 gallon aquarium without a wave timer. Great flow you can see to the opposite side of the tank. Worth the price and the performance is far better than my Seio 6 & 8.

Number 7's fpr me

Comments:
After having 3 #4's for a couple years, I decided to put more flow in my 200 reef tank. What I did not like about the 4's, was the startup chatter of the impellers. Not sure if the later 4's have the chatter still, but I can assure you that the number 7's are dead silent, and I do mean DEAD silent... I hooked up 4 korilla 7's to my RKE, on wavemaker mode and they rock... These puppies push a lot of water, but it isnt too focused. I mean they push a lot of water over a wide aria, so wide that I have to point them upward so that all the sand in my tank dosent pile from one end of the tank to the other. Dead zones in the tank are gone, but it isnt too much in in one spot. I do turn off during night mode, but leave the #4's running all the time. They are big, but the corrals dont seem to mind. After all, I would not use the big ones in a small tank because I might not be able to keep water in it. So quiet upon start up, and when running, I have to visibly check up close to se what ones are running. I cant hear them start up, and they do it every 5 minits. I would definatly recomend them to my friends, as long as you have a big enough tank so that they are not distracting. Wide but powerful flow.. Jeff

Perfect for a wave maker -- no rattle upon start-up and powerful current Many improvements from the standard Koralia 5 including a closed end to prevent fish and snails from crawling in. Only downside is the size -- they are quite big and stick out.

I bought two Koralia Magnum # 5 pumps for my 125 gallon tank in the hopes to add some much needed flow to my tank. These are so quiet and are made in Italy (so you know its good quality). i have had no problemes with these pumps, and i would recommend them to anyone!! They use very little energy, which is also a huge plus!

I had a koralia 4 in my 120g tall tank it worked but wasnt pushing water around my rock and through the caves in my rock. Did not care to go with two 4's and wavemaker so the 5 was just enouph and its strong to almost to strong.

Best powerheads I've ever had. Great flow, super quiet, low energy output. Hydor got it right with these. If you have a large tank with SPS, these are the way to go. Don't waste your money on Eco Vortech.

THIS PRODUCT ONLY UNSATISFACTORY BECAUSE OF THE HIGH PRICE TAG. I THOUGHT I WOULD GET MOER BANG FOR THE BUCK.WE HAVE AN EHEIM 1000 ON THE LEFT END OF THE TANK, ON THE RIGHT END THE KORALIA. THE EHEIM GIVES ALOT MORE MOVEMENT!!! FOR THE COST DIFFRENCE, NOT WORTH IT. 1650GPH NO WAY!!!!

NO CHATTERING on a controller!
by

Posted on 4/13/2009 from SANTA MARIA, CA UNITED STATES
Comments:
I purchased a pair of K5’s at the MAX ’09 Hydor Koralia booth. Not more than 2 weeks prior, I purchased a pair of K4’s, but then later heard rumors that the K5-8’s have been working on wavemaker modes via controllers. I verified this with the Hydor rep who showed me several design improvements that help them run without the destructive startup chatter. First, there’s built in electronics in these pumps to assist with softer startup. Second, there’s no pin shaft to fatigue and shear off. The magnetic rotor itself makes up the shaft. Third, there’s a beefy guide bushing located behind the magnetic rotor that effectively reduces vibrations. Finally, a removable guide brace on the front of the rotor assembly secures everything in place. The brace design looks like it also serves to further offset some of the start up torque. These parts are easily removable for periodic maintenance. I hope they’ll be made available as replaceable components. I have them plugged into an ACjr, wavemaker programmed to alternately turn on/off, and am pleased to report there has been NO STARTUP CHATTERING whatsoever. These pumps are vitually silent and generate a broader flow pattern than the K4’s. The K4’s seemed to generate flow in a V-like pattern. To top it off these new pumps use less power than lower flow ones. The only down side is that they are noticeably much bigger...in fact, they're huge. Also, I should have probably gone with the next size up. I think that's common advice offered in reviews for the older models. So far, I’m very pleased with these pumps. I’ve only been running them for a week, but if they stop working Hydor Koralia covers them under warranty for 2 years. Finally, high flow powerheads (other than MJ mods) that actually work on controllers! Spread the word. Nice job Hydor Koralia.

I cannot tell people how much I like this powerhead. I use the smaller models in my other reef tank, but using this in my 100 gallon is perfect. Has a good amount of power and flexibility. Big, but worth every penny. I HIGHLY suggest this if your in the market for a good powerhead. Definitely would buy another!

These are much better than the original Koralia's and seem to be worth the $$. It's dead quiet and works as well as my Tunze's & Vortec's without the controllability those pumps offer. I use it in addition to my more expensive pumps that offer random flow.

Got this in yesterday - there is no longer a "click" noise when the powerhead turns on as with the older models, they've fixed the gap in the impeller shaft. Runs dead quiet, pushes a good soft stream of water just as the older models do - about 24 hours later and no complaints, it beats paying almost triple for a similar TUNZE.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
