Comments: This ballast is more energy efficient than my old unit and powers up the bulb faster. It doesn't have an on/off switch, but who uses one with a timer? The ballast is lightweight compared to several other brands and has nice gaskets on the housing to prevent salt from creeping inside the casing. It runs very cool to the touch and already has the plugs wired for the Ice Cap Pendant so its just plug and play. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Expert: Ex is a has been or was. spert is drip under presure. lol 10yrs, The longer I do this the less I know! I decided to step up to MH lighting so could keep more SPS corals and the only way I could afford it back then was through ebay. 2x250 ballast and 1x250 ballast over a 125. Then about 6 mo. ago things went haywire the 1x250 balast was taking an hour or more to light the bulb and finally quit! Then the 2x250 did the same. I have several ebay bulbs I was trying out, but only 2 would light up with the 2x250 the rest would not light up! I was torn between buying a "good" bulb or a "good" ballast? Since I knew 1 ballast was bad. I decided based on reviews and reputation to try the Ice Cap ballast. WOW! What a difference! Every single bulb I have lights instantly with the Ice Cap! I've had a clam in this system about 8 months that would not sit still! It has parked and popped open and looks great ever since ballast was replaced! Of the 30 or so SPS corals some have browned out during the lighting drama and are coloring back up nicely! I will be buying 2 more Ice Cap ballast ASAP! And "good" bulbs! Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: After the one that came with my oddessy system burnt out wasn't sure what to buy to replace it, since there no longer in biz.. Wow what a difference this one made it's like night and day so bright and it's over rated in voltage for my bulb but the patented system only pushes what it needs looks 100% better now. Besides the fact it had a short molex cord and no off switch it's great.. Just bought a longer power cord and put it on it's own surge protector for power on off switch... But really wow what a differeance in light never thought it would make such a differeance Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: If you are running 14k bulbs and like the color then you may consider switching to 20k. I have 14k's and they now burn a cool white. I am glad I switched from the stock HQI ballast that came with my sunpod. It runs cool to the touch and is much smaller than my previous ballast. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I'm like most other reviewers here that have the Odyssea light fixture. I wanted to upgrade my ballasts cause I had some extra cash to put into my reef tank and the ballasts were always the item I overlooked cause I had a perfectly working set that came with my lights. As a skeptic I am totally shocked at the impact these have had on my corals. So far, I only have one Icecap ballast on my tank and it appears to twice as bright as the stock Odyssea unit. I run 15K bulbs and the IceCap 250 Ballast produces a MUCH whiter light, but in a good way. The proof that these ballasts are worth every single dollar spent is that loose pieces of hard corals that have fallen to the bottom of my tank now retain there color and continue to grow. With the stock ballasts, these pieces would stop growing and eventually fade brown. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I ordered this when one of my two cheap Chinese ballast died. I had read all the reviews that said how awesome this ballast is but was still a little skeptical. How could a ballast change the way the bulb looked? Well all I can say is WOW! I still have the other cheap Chinese ballast is use along side this new one but I am replacing that ASAP. The side of my tank being powered by the cheap ballast looks dark compared to this ballast, not to mention I can cook an egg on it. The IceCap 250 is not only MUCH brighter but is cool to the touch. How do they do it? Black Magic? That's the only way I see that this is possible ;) I can't rave enough about this product. If you're running any other ballast for your MH lights you need to stop and order this today. Seriously, well worth the money. I can't believe I haven't been running this already. One other note, the color of my fish now seem to "pop". Everything looks much more vibrant. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I exchanged a noisy magnetic ballast at the request of my wife with this silent beauty. I have to say that I think the bulb is *slightly* bluer (14k Phoenix), but the sound pay-off is tremendous! Reading a review here, I did not buy the male quick disconnect. I had to order it later. If you are wiring this to a non IceCap fixture, you want the male disconnect. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I got a good price on a metal halide lighting system with 2 X 250W lamps from another vendor, but the ballasts turned out to be junk and one of them failed in less than six months. The lighting system is really the heart of the whole display, so I decided to replace them both with IceCaps. They arrived in about a week. When I hooked up the first one, the result was amazing. The lamp powered by the IceCap appeared to be twice as bright and much whiter than the one with the original ballast. By copmparison, the original ballast, produced a puny yelowish light. The IceCap produces a dazzling white light with the same bulb. It is a great improvement. The IceCap ballasts also appear to be very well made and appear to be well sealed and water tight, although I wouldn't care to test that out. My only quibble: The IceCap comes with a very short (maybe 14")output cable so an extension is necessary. I didn't know that when I ordered it, so now I have to deal with it. All in all, I am pretty happy with the IceCap. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I got a cheap MH aquarium light of the big auction site and replaced the ballast with this ice cap. SOOOOO much better. the ballast that came with the light is like a cheap toy compared to this icecap. i would recommend it and i would buy another. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I got this for my husband as a Christmas present. The ballast works fine, but he had to go to Fry's Electronics to get extension cords because the cords on the ballast were too short to hook up directly to our tank. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I replaced both the ballasts on a Current 2X250watt HQI light hood. Having used magnetic ballasts, I can say that IceCap makes an excellent product! They run only lukewarm with no need for a cooling fan, and come encased in an aluminum heat sink case so open air flow is sufficient for cooling. They have no "on-off" switch so you'll have to use timers or a power strip. I started with new HQI bulbs and after initial burn in the bulb performance is better than expected. I have to agree with IceCaps claims regarding how much better electronic ballasts are over magnetic ones. An excellent product!!! Just make sure if you're rewiring your own ballasts yourself that you know what you're doing, or get someone to help you. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I've got my first Icecap MH ballast in Jun/2008. It worked very well for about 5 months with a XM 15K until it just stopped one day. It's now having problems firing up the lamp. After a few attempts it gets the lamp on, but not as bright as it used to be. I initially thought it was the lamp, but the ballast does not fire the brand new replacement either. In order to minimize blackout periods one needs to have spare parts always available…include one ballast in your spare parts kit! It’s now time to check IceCap’s support and its 3 years warranty. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: We received this ballast about a week ago. It fit the existing light and fired up on the first try. The bulb is much brighter with this ballast than the previous ballast, which we thought worked well until it just stopped one day. The other ballast stopped today, so it looks like another icecap will be ordered soon. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Ballast works well so far. The light ignites much faster than my hid ballasts. Im trying to replace my other ballasts with these. Run much cooler than other ballasts I have but still pretty warm to the touch after long use but not afraid it might melt something like my other ballasts. Im using it on Se mogul base bulbs Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This is for people who have Odyssea light fixtures and want to up grade their ballasts and dont know which ones to get. After reading the reviews from people who have Odyssea fixtures, I decided to take a chance. I also bought the IceCap Quick disconnect male receptacle for IceCap elec. ballast thinking that I needed it, but turns out that I didnt. Anyways, Im glad that I bought them......WOW what a difference they make. They start up the bulbs really fast and doesnt take as long to re-start them even after the electricity goes out, as did the stock ballasts.They also started up the bulbs( SPS Blue Life) that the stock ballasts couldnt. Now I dont have to worry about which bulbs to buy b/c the ballasts cant fire them up. Like if that wasnt enough, they plugged right in the stock cables. There was no need to cut and splice wires to adapt the new ballasts. Over all review..........I definitely recommend them, two thumbs up! Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This ballast is excellent. No flickering, fast startup of the bulb, great color. It is amazing what a good ballast can do for a bulb that you might think doesnt have a good output. My only complaint was that the first unit I got had a heat mark on it like it was a used/returned unit that had gotten VERY hot before. I spoke quickly with these guys and was sent a new one which works perfectly. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I had put off buying these for far too long. I didn't want to spend the money, but now that I have I wish I had done it sooner. Who knows how much these would have saved me in electricity and cooling bills. My old magnetic ballasts got blisteringly hot. These are barely warm to the touch after a half day of running. The only nagging issue I have is something trips my GFCI when these are plugged into the lighting outlet that has it. The magnetic ballasts never had a problem. I've checked the wiring a hundred times, and the only thing I can think is one of these is somehow leaking voltage back onto the ground. Once that's resolved, I can say I love these ballasts! Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This runs cool and bright, after 8 hours it is barely warm, all others i have had are burning hot by this time. Also make it real bright. Only problem for me is, it has no off switch, so if you want to turn it off, you have to unplug it. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I bought this ballast to replace one of my faulty magnetic ballasts. I have been running this ballast for a few days now. The first thing I noticed is how quickly my bulb lights up compared to the magnetic ballast (the one that still works) I was using. The second and more important thing I noticed it how cool it runs. I opened my cabinet where the ballast is housed and no heat escapes!!!! It is actually a decent temperature in there. I am going to order a second ballast to replace the working magnetic ballast to run my other light. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Upgraded from PFO 250 magnetics: these are much better! Brighter, half the size & weight, mountable, run cooler, no humming sound, and now I can run any lamp I want. I got the PFO conversion kit, but dont really need it; I just hijacked the female connectors off the old ballasts, since I was splicing together anyway. In line splicing with crimpers allowed for better space savings and looks better too. The 3-prong male connector to the wall was plenty long. The only improvement would be to sell a dual 250W, or dual 400w. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I have a stock odyssea 6ft 3- 250w mh fixture w/actinics. one of my odyssea ballasts blew so i decided to replace the center ballast with an icecap ballast (per all the talk on reef central. The difference is amazing. its at least 75% brighter than the stock ballast and heats up twice as fast. I went to Fry's electronics and bought a PC extension cable for $3.99 and its plug and play, no wires to splice. only negative is that the power cable on the ballast is to short which is why i had to buy the pc extension. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I bought these ballast after I decided to modify two 250 watt odyssey light fixtures. The original ballast that come with the Odyssea light fixture is pure garbage. I can see why the ballast had a tendency to melt. The odyssey ballast had power to slowly fire the HQI bulbs and only drove the 15k bulb to a greenish hue instead of a crisp white blue hue. After a quick and easy hook up of the ice cap ballast WOW what a difference the ice cap ballast made. Even on a garbage odyssea bulb all I can say is WOW what a color change. The only thing that I’m not happy with, I’m nit picking on this is the fact that ice cap only put a 1 foot section off the ballast going the to the light fixture. If you want to have your ballast away from your light set up and aquarium like you should to avoid the possibility of water and humidity exposure, you need to get your self a c13 to c14-18 awg-250 volt, 10 amp power cord. In human words a 250 volt CPU power cord. These cords have the quick connect ends that ice cap uses. Real easy to use and set up your fixture with. The ice cap 250 watt ballast takes a shotty odyssey light fixture and turns it into an awesome light fixture and still at half the price of the name brand units with ice cap ballast. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: The unit is wonderful but I purchased the power cord, figuring that I needed to wire them in only to find out that the unit is fully wired. I purchased the cord because the 'related products' below included a power cord and I didn't find anything to indicate otherwise (my last Icecap ballasts needed to be wired). In short, 'yes' but the unit but you need *NOTHING* else; this unit has everything you need Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I have been running the 24" odyssea fixture from aquatraders for 6 months now and was completely happy with the light. I fell victim to the reviews of this ballast and decided to buy one. I was sceptical that people on here were making a bigger deal than what it was. When I opened it up today and plugged it in.... HOLY COW!!! Words cannot describe how much brighter this makes my standard 6 month old odyssea 10k bulb. It is so bright that I cannot see my computer screen because of the glare. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: After reading several rave reviews on the ice cap line I decided to to purchase a 250 watt metal halid ballast. After anxiously awaiting its arrival I was disaapointed in that it didnt light the new bulb. After letting it run for 24 hours with no light I figured I had a bad ballast. So after trouble shooting for a few hours I concluded the ballast wasnt working correctly and returned it. Marine Depot was very good about the return, so after a few days I received a replacement ice cap ballast. Again no light. So Marine Depot sent me a new bulb. The bulb started to fire, but to no avail. So after two bulbs and two ballasts I decided to try another brand of ballasts. I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I borrowed an ARO ballast from a friend to start a Hamilton 14K 250 watt bulb, my cheaper ballast would't do the job. I used that for a month but now he needs it back. I thought that it was perfect. I was told to buy the ICE Cap because it was made a little better. A little better is a bad comparison. My wife accused me of buying another bulb and a friend noticed the difference from the street outside my house tonight when he came over. It starts slow with no flickering like the ad says. It seems like it takes a minute or two to get up to full throttle (for lack of a better description) and builds to a very bright constant. I would say that the difference in the ARO and the ice Cap would be like comparing a 75 watt light bulb to a 100 watt one. And ARO is supposed to be high quality. Spend the money and buy this first time!! I wish that I had. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Awesome Ballast, great price. Very little heat is given off. Only thing I wish was included would be the cord that plugs into the ballast. I had to cut the existing cord and make my own. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Excellent ballast with great color and intensity. This ballast requires an Icecap male plug or male to bare ends cable unless you want to cut off the socket and splice it (not recommended). You should link this product to the correct cable. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I changed from 175 watt magnetic ballasts to two of these. Very huge difference! I am very impressed with how quiet they run and how cool. I would recommend this ballast to everyone. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This ballast is very nice. It comes fully wired. All you have to do is plug in the quick connect cord to your fixture. The only downside is that the output cord is fairly short(approximately 1 foot long). So, I had to place it close to my tank. But, it runs extremely cool, so no worries of anything melting close to it. I would definitely recommend this ballast to someone else. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I have a Odyssea dual 250W HQI Fixture. One of my Ballasts went so I replaced it with this one.....Now I have to buy another one, because this ballast makes a world of difference in the light! The 10k lamp powered by this ballast is WHITE, the other one now looks yellow compared to this -- I switched ballasts and the colors followed the ballasts -- I had no idea that the ballast would make that much difference in the color - I am VERY impressed. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I have only had it for a few days but I can see the difference. I had two cheapo ballasts and one blew so I bought this. This one starts up perfect, and is actually using the bulbs potential. I am going to buy another becasue the other side of my tank looks like the lights are off now! Its great!! Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Solid ballast, no flicker. I have previously been using magnetic ballasts and this by far seems to be much better (and brighter too). Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Didn't take long to get this ballast wired up to my lighting fixture. Changed my old ballast for this IceCap ballast for my crocea clam and it loves it. Awesome ballast! Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Purchased to replace a ballast in a 48 in aqua space light. This ballast was a perfect fit. Screw placements were identical. It appears to be an OEM replacement even though it has a different name. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I bought three of these and thought my electric bill would be sky high in the summer, along with cooling the house. It wasn't, I couldn't believe how low it was.$169 for July for a 2,800 sq foot house Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: My original MH ballast would put off alot of heat which made my chiller work overtime. This ballast is great. Very quick startup and very cool running. Unit will pay for itself in utility bill savings Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
