Short version: It spins and gives constant, 120 degree orbiatl flow that is more smooth than turbulent. Upside is my corals are visably happier. Downside is maintenance is a must. Plan to soak in vinegar every 6 months to a year to keep it spinning reliably.
Long verion: I'm using this in a JBJ 29 Gallon LED Pro loaded with SPS coral. The coral are growing to the point where I felt I needed some more random flow to overcome dead spots caused by corals growing into the water column. If I had tons of money to blow I'd go with variable flow powerhead by Vortech or Tunze. But since I'm not rich man I had to find something a bit cheaper. Anyway, I'm using one Spin Stream with my Eheim Compact 1000, which is rated at 267GPM. Given the size of my tank, I would say that it's just barely enough flow after what seems like 20-30% loss in GPM. I would not recommend using a pump with less than 250GPM unless it was a very small tank, say 12-15 gallons. I think this would work best with a good quality, dedicated powerhead with 300GPM or better. Two pumps running on each side of the tank with Spin Streams may actually give some turbulent flow close to what you could do with variable speed powerheads.
Lastly, I may buy another one for my second pump (have two Eheims that alternate every 12 hours) if this first one lasts a year. But then again, I may a pile of money on the ground and then can afford a Vortech or Tunze option.

This is a great way to randomize the flow in your tank. I haven't had any issues with them seizing up, but I could see it requiring maintenance in the future. The problem I had was the noise. I put this on my JBJ RL30 and the outlets sit too high for these to fully submerge, making them very noisy.

They've bound up and stopped spinning, twice. I'll see if I can clean them and get them going again. Might be due to the fact that I started using them while the water was still cloudy from filling it up new live sand and water. So far they don't seem worth it (not for 60 bucks--I got two). But like I said, I'll get them working again and see if they don't stay working. I think the stock nozzles and submersible power head might do better.

First of all, this return nozzle is huge. It takes over a lot of real estate in my nuvo nano 8 gallon tank. The nozzle reduces the water that passes through.

Bought for the IM Nuvo 8 gallon. Unfortunately, once the spin is put on, it reduces the pump flow by about 25%. I have the pump flow max to 92gph. This will barely spin the stream. Sadly, have better flow with just stock nozzle (and with stock pump still isn't enough overall flow).

Cool little device that allows you to get a little more random flow than static nozzles. They work great and are pretty much silent if they're under the water line. Comes with a few adapters so they should fit most tubing size. For being all plastic they're a little high in price though.

I bought this for my canister filter. I like to know when the filter starts to show slow flow rate and with this I can. I can watch the spinner, which works very good, to see when the flow slows down. It would also work very well in a small tank to make waves and keep the water temp down

Good product. It offers a nice diverse current in my tank. I had to mod the part a little to get it work on my return. I wish they would include lock line adapters for additional installation options. The product is nice and quiet on my set up. Over all, it's good product. I have bought a few, just over priced for what it is.

Like the more natural flow in the tank - green star polyp has beautiful natural looking movement - however would probably recommend a stronger pump for corals that need more flow.
