Mine worked great, I have a Digital refractometer as well and have tested it against the more accurate refractometer and was always dead on. The big complaint is you have to slowly fill it and then knock the bubbles off, and there is always a bubble or two that doesn't want to let go leaving me fighting to get it off. If you can't afford a refractometer (I highly recommend the Milwaukee) I would highly recommend this product otherwise buy a digital and save yourself some time and probably money as you may end up buying one anyways. Otherwise this hydrometer gets the job done as long as you follow the directions.

This is a Lemon stay away. after taking it home and trying it i found it was way off from 4 other tests on the same water sample. when they read 2.24 it read over 3.0. and severl stores told me after the fact they stopped carrying this because that very reason.

Use correctly for best results. Rinse in fresh water, fill slowly to eliminate bubbles. Tap before you read. I have had this hydrometer for 15 years and test everyday. I consistently get results that have been confirmed with other arm reading devices. Refraction is best...however this one is an easy to use, suitable for daily use tool.

I bought this hydrometer, and at first had problems with getting inconsistent and high readings. The trick is learning how to get the water in without bubbles sticking to the pointer. If you slowly lower it into the water with the semicircular part facing down (i.e. long flat side on top), then rotate it into the vertical position while underwater, then gently take it out, it comes out bubble free and quite accurate (I found it consistently reading 0.001 lower than a refractometer). So for the money, it is great, unfortunately it is not operator error proof.
