Magnetic water pumps. Magnetic driven. Sealess pumps for use on fresh or saltwater aquariums. Low heat exchange and quiet in operation. Highly durable design. WMD pumps have American Made Motors. MD pumps have Japanese Made Motors. RLT pumps are for pressure applications. RLXT pumps are for circulation and wet/dry return.
Iwaki Walchem magnetic drive pumps will run longer, quieter and cooler than any traditional mag drive. Extraordinarily high efficiencies make WMD & MD the clear choice in almost every process, recirculation or transfer application.
Unique internal Cooling Circuit
Creates a positive, forced cooling path, lubricating bearing surfaces and actively purging gases & heat. Unique double bearing system allows cooling circuit liquid to continually "wash" front and rear radial bearings, extending bearing life.
Precision Tolerances
Pumps can be supplied with alumina ceramic or SiC spindles, bored, turned and highly polished. This precision machined spindle forms the center of the driven magnet. Substantially reduced hydraulic noise is a major feature of all WMD/MD impellers. Great pains are taken in the molding/finishing process to eliminate tangential misalignment.
Bearings/Thrust surfaces
High lubricity fluoropolymer bearings minimize mechanical losses typical of conventional mag drive pumps. High purity SiC radial bearings handle the most aggressive ultrapure chemistries. PTFE front thrust surface aids hydraulic balance and minimizes flashing. Large rear thrust surface guards against axial forces caused by cavitation or gas entrapment.
Drive magnet
Dynamically balanced barium ferrite drive magnets provide best magnet torque. Die cast magnet carrier creates a flywheel effect, which adds to the magnet safety factor.
Motor matching
Offering more standard motor/pump configurations than other manufacturers offer for tailored pump applications. Premium, high efficiency motors are used throughout the line. Totally enclosed, permanent split capacitor motors are compact, cool and economical. Tolerance to voltage variation without overheating and 50/60 Hz operation allow the product to be used in a worldwide market.

I have had this pump as well as a 30RLT running on my 200 gal marine tank for 13 years straight now. These pumps are beasts.. Never an issue with either one of them. Best investment I made for my system. I highly recommend these pumps.

I've had this pump now on my 92 gallon corner unit for about 6 months. This pump is a work horse! Great quality build and relatively quiet considering its application, placement a work load. I would recommend this pump to anyone and would absolutely use it on any tank I have.

This pump is loud. I've plumbed through the wall and built a concrete block case in the next room. It still fills the viewing room with a penetrating, vibrating hum. Unless you have a good tolerance for noise, this product is not suitable for a living space.

Iwaki pumps never fail. Went in line with ease and worked perfectly. Only complaint was that I heeded to wire the Japanese motor with a plug. No big deal for me but it might be worth mentioning for those who aren't as familiar with electrical wiring.

The pump is sufficient to operate the Bullet skimmers as described, even with 2+' head height. The negative is that the pump is loud, very loud. louder than two reeflow pumps combined....

Friendly place to place your orders, as I remmember my first order was back in 2004 or so, never missed any parts and always receive the next day(cool stuff ah!). This Iwaki is the second one I order from them, my first was MD20RLXT (ordered in 2007), excellent pumping so quite that could even sleep next to the tank (sometimes), and is very powerful for my Red Sea Max. The only thing that it didn't come with the cord but that's fine, I was not smart to find a part (Home Depot) with swicth to attach the pump cord to outlet, after a while, the salt water ran into the swicth without my notices and ruin my pump that I didn't even know. so this time, very simple, use my extra PC cord and leave the connection at high ground, that is it (take me only 15 minutes to complete)and it is now running beautiful but I'm still missing the Iwaki MD20RLXT (this is the one, buddies).

I used to have a Little Giant 4MD and it was a powerful and quiet pump. Not as powerful as this Iwaki, but much quieter. Iwaki makes a good pump with minimal head loss and it will last a long time, but they advertise them as quiet. The magnetic drive makes a constant high pitch noise, somewhat like a vacuum cleaner. I had to use sound dampening foam on the inside of my cabinet to deaden the noise - which really worked for the room. Now it's quieter than the air pump. Before I bought the Iwaki, I tried a Reeflo Snapper, it isn't very powerful, but it was VERY quiet.
All in all I would recommend the Iwaki if you need to push water through a bunch of equipment underneath the tank and want good tank water turnover. It circulates the water very well, much more water movement than either of the other two pumps I mentioned.

Over the years after using other pumps (little giant, Mag, Dolphin) driving a 90 gal with sump and skimmer, I was looking for a pump that would do the work without all the associated noise.
