Excellent!
JBJ 28 Nano review by PAUL ROGERS

Posted on 10/18/2009 from PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL UNITED
Comments: I bought this set-up for use as a salt water reef tank. The lights are great and the all in one set up is easy for maintaining the tank. The only negative I can say is that you will need to buy a chiller to keep the water temp. down. I keep my home at 78 degrees but with the lights running the water warms upto 88 in about 6-8 hours. So be ready to buy a chiller.. Otherwise great concept and great tank.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Nice little set-up by DAVID

Comments: I chose this CF-Quad because I figured the 150w HQI model would be to much for a such a small system and over heating would be an issue unless you spent the extra $300+ on the chiller system. The system has been up and running now for a couple of weeks now. On it's own it maintains 80-81 degrees without using heater. I did notice on warmer days it gained 2-3 degrees. This can be controlled with an inexpensive room fan. Pumps are lacking. I hid a small additional 270 gph powerhead behind LR to increase flow. I had to notch the back of canopy so the lid would close over power cord. The wavemaker is a nice feature. I use it to control the additional powerhead and one of the factory installed returns. The other return is used to circulate water surface. Overall for the cost I think is a better choice than the 28 gal. HQI unless you want to spend the extra for chiller. The 3.75w/gallon is plenty of light for a shallow tank like this.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This is the first aquarium I've ever owned so I'm unsure how to compare it, but I love this aquarium! The HQI lighting makes the aquarium look beautiful and bright! Everything in the tank (live rock, sand, crab, snails and fish) all look clear and their colors are vivid. I have no regrets about purchasing this aquarium. The pumps and protein skimmer are all in good working order. The only issue we've had is the lighting gets so hot that the water temp goes up significantly. We had to purchase a separate little fan to cool the water down a bit. That seems to be working fine for reducing the water temp. as of now.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

HQI Hot 85* at 73 Room by ANTON PHILIPP
Experience Level: Expert
Posted on 10/15/2008 from SKOKIE, IL UNITED STATES
Comments: Beautiful setup requires chiller due to proximity of hot illuminating HQI-light 2" from tank water surface. That said intense light permeates and sparkles evenly due to kelvin temp and reflector design. 50lbs. of live rock requires additional $external vortech circulation pump to effectively circulate water thru rockwork from side, as there is no way without drilling the tank back to include Corded less costly pumps or ANY accessory with a cord to be used what so ever! This is a major Design Problem.....additionally rear filter area has little if no room to accomodate refugiums and external hanging accessories, like overflows. Needed chiller return/drain tubes have limited room access in rear filter area, and need to be directed there(both intake/return), or a rear outlet must be used instead of an accela pump, thus terminating the Dual wavemaking feature using both accela pumps to only one. Stylish cabinet has cramped room to accomodate nano chiller. Cabinet requires additional ventilation fan to remove extreme heat produced from ballast and chiller.Ballast alone heats cabinet interior to high temperatures around chiller to impack its performance negatively, so an additional external cabinet exhaust fan IS required to remove heat buildup there. In addition chillers require adequate room all around the unit to function properly, so the cabinet stand has multiple issues when housing a chiller adequately and optimally. Remember No corded device of any type can be used inside aquarium without drilling a hole thru plastic back! Finally glass shield runs HOT when light is on, hot enough to possibly shatter if squirted forcefully by a large invertebrate placed close to light. This is a setup that Can be used without a chiller, but then big temperature fuctuations occur, causing unfavorable conditions for most corals, enhancing disease, problem algae, and other unfavorable conditions. So get a chiller and enjoy the setup if you are a Nano Reef Enthuseist

Not as good as it sounds by JOHN MARTIN

Comments: I received this aquarium a couple of months ago and would not recommend and wish I had purchased a different aquarium. A few of the reasons are the lid when opens knocks skimmer resovoir off (poor design). You will need a chiller with this running metal halides especially with the lid closed and containing all the heat. This is a very tight fit to fit the other pump. The two pump outlets built into the tank at top left and right have virtually no range of directional control so one will need to add an additional pump or extensions to get proper water flow for a reef tank. The overflow is limited to over the top versus others (one of which I have) which has panels so you can adjust flow through filter and whether top, bottom, or all.
I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: All the same issues described by other reviewers apply. The protein skimmer top must be removed to open the lid, lighting heats tank up. I experienced a 6 degree swing in temp from lighting. The intergraded fans simply aren't strong enough. However, I found that a $20.00 house fan did the trick! 105 degree outside temp the other day and the house was approaching 80, and with the fan I experienced less than a 1 degree temp swing. Simple and cheap solution. Beats a $400- $500 dollar chiller that would raise my electric bill even higher and put even more heat in the room. The moon leds are fantastic and also give a cool glittering shimmer effect. Protein skimmer works great, no need to upgrade unless you just like spending money. Love the curved glass with no obstructions in the front. Gives a wonderful viewing area. I wish the rear sump/filter area was a bit bigger. Impossible for me to get my hand down into the pump area for any kind of servicing or even up grading of the pumps. I might have to hire a small child if I want to change them out. I wish the filter box was a bit larger as well. Would make it nicer to run more filter media or just to have different options to run a larger media bag. Not a perfect system, but all in all pretty close and it is nicer than any other all in one reef system of it's size that I have researched! Get one, you will like it!

Comments: Back in the reefing world after a 6 year layoff. At first didn't want a nano or all in one but after doing a lot of reading online, etc. I decided on this aquarium and have simply loved in. The only negative I was worried about was the that but it has been 90+ outside here in NC for the last two weeks and the hottest my tank has gotten was 80.6 degrees. I have not even put a heater in so far because the low temp has been 78. Looks great in the living room of our contemporary home :-)

Comments: This is truly an excellent aquarium, but it needs a chiller to really provide an ideal environment for fish and coral. If you want to set up a nano-reef, this is the way to go. Like others have said, you do have to adjust the skimmer to open the top, bit it is well worth it. Also the HQI lighting brings our the best colors in corals.

Nice Tank but... by DON BETTS

Comments: I owned a 24DX from JBJ for years and upgraded to the 28 HQI. Looking forward to watching it grow. It is a nice tank but it does have 2 irritants. It runs hot so order a chiller too. The other irritant is that the wave maker failed the first week. JBJ's customer service is lacking AND you have to pay shipping both ways on warranty parts. I wouldn't recommendt this tank just because of JBJ.

Comments: Great lillte tank! Large viewing area. I like the fact that its longer than wide. You can get a lot of rock in there and still have room for open sand area for clams and such. The skimmer isn't the greatest, but once you get it adjusted, it work pretty well. You have to re-adjust everytime you open the hood, but that's minor. Haven't experienced the over heating problem others have described. But I'm only keeping the light on for a few hours during the day while my rock is curing. All in all worth the wait! (took 3 deliveries for one to arrive unbroken!)

Runs Hot, needs chiller by KIT LEWIS

Comments: The light caused ours to go up to 86 degrees. Just a little too hot. We were advised to get a chiller & got the JBJ Mini-Arctica Chiller DBI-050 1/15hp. Now we're at 76-78 degrees. Everything is now going according to schedule & we hope to be adding some fish soon.

Comments: This is really a simple and easy way to get starting with an aquarium, totally self contained and quite. The only drawbacks are the filter needs replacing frequently and it's expensive. The other is the overflow does not keep the fish from over flowing in to the catch tank.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
