UV Shield Breakage by glewis

Comments: I really like the K-2 Viper Light, however, I keep having a problem with the UV Glass Shield breaking whenever a clownfish splashes nearby. The unit is 5-6" over the open tank, but any splashing has shattered the glass twice. JBJ repalced the first one free, but just had to buy another after 6 month warranty ran out - $10+$9 s&h $19 total. I am going to have a piece of glass cut to go under the light that fits the width of the tank, and still leaves front and back of tank open. Just FYI for those considering the K-2. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I have had this product for a while. This is my second one. The first one had to be sent back after a month because the top knob stripped not being able to hold the weight of the head. The second had the same issue after 2 months. I was going to give only 1 star but to be fair I gave it 2 because the light and reflector are great. It's the neck that needs a redesign. I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: By no means am I putting down this product, I am putting down the fact that I was miss informed. The K-2 70w is a great product, the problem I have is it not strong enough for the tank I have and I was told it was. I own a 12 gallon Eclispe and it is just not enough light. Buy the 70w for a small,small,small tank, If you have something 10gal. or bigger spend the little extra and get the 150w and I beleve you will be a lotttttt happier!(at least I know I would)I am only recommending this light because the light is not my gripe, the under power for my tank is my prob. Mark Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Don't let anyone tell you that 150w's is too much for a nano. I've had this fixture on my 8g BioCube since April '08 and couldn't be happier. I did have to lower my light cycle from 11hrs to 9 hrs due to rise in temp. Overall, both me and my coral couldn't be happier. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This is a nice fixture. A lot of adjustment ability and the remote ballast is nice. Very easy to set up. Absolutely love it. Negatives - Not a big fan of the bulb, it's ok. Ballast is huge! Overall very satisfied! Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Looks great on my 5.5 gallon nano tank. Very easy to affix to the tank just in minute's up and running. Quiet, very little heat given off. Only down side to the fixture is that the bulb is o.k. not that great, but don't fear there are several 70w DE bulbs that will work with fixture ;-) Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: A low cost way to get quality HQI. In put this one on a 46 gallon bow front. If I didn't know any better I would say that the leather actually moved itself off of the rock it was layed on to get under it. It was just a matter of inches. It had been laying were I put it for weeks. I tell you this thing moved. Definitely Will be getting more of these for my other tanks. These are perfect in my opinion. Certain corals dont need hqi while others do. I can arrange the corals to were the light best suit them or move the light were it is needed. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I have had reef tanks for many years. After using PC and T5 lighting, I finally made the decision to try MH for my nano tank. The JBJ Viper is absolutly great. From the ease of intallation, the "classy" looks, to the beautiful glitter lines that only MH lighting can give. Also because of the clamp on style it does not give off alot of heat to the tank. I am hooked on this light and plan to upgrade on my larger tank, by purchasing multiple Vipers. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: the bulb it came with is mediocre the reflector is very inefficient and I've had to replace the ballast three times and the bulb twice within the first month. 2 hours after I plugged it in the first time the glass shield shattered. it's not even tempered. I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Great so far. I have this light over my 5.5 gallon reef tank and it's certainly an improvement from the twin 18W halogens that I was running before. All my corals have perked up a bit and you have to love the way halide light dances on the water. The color of the 14K bulb was a little too blue when I first set it up, but after about a week the bulb has settled in and the color looks much better. My only complaint is that mounting is a little difficult on some tanks. I had a small stand rigged up already that I could mount it on, but it will not work on the side of most tanks. Plan on using a little creativity for setting up the light. Overall I would certainly recommend this for smaller tanks. No temperature problems with the light about 6-8" above the water. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I bought this light to replace a power compact on my 5.5 gallon nano reef.Sure its alittle much,but have had it for about a month now and its perfect.The setup is very simple and looks very sharp.There is just about nothing for heat give off,still have to use a heater to keep the heat right.The supplied bulb gives off a very nice color.all around great product. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I have a 60 gallon octagon tank and the viper lights it beautifully!!! Lots of reflective lights and everyone is happy right down to the bottom of my tank! I admit the clamping system needs improvement, but I am totally pleased with the results! Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: Purchased for planted fresh water 9 gallon cadlight nano tank. Replaced bulb that came with it with a 10000k. Looks and works great. Gives me access to Plant maintenance without removing light. Considering replacing the lighting on other planted tanks I have with similar setup, perhaps two clamp-ons using the 150 watt for 55 gallon planted tank. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: the lights themselves prove to be worthy, but the clamps that affix the fixture to the tank are horrible, made of a cheap plastic that easily breaks when placed on the edge of your tank. I still have to call the company, as both of mine have broken. I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This light is good for smaller tanks. I thought it would make a 29 Gallon bright. It didn't. I recommend using it with Nano Cubes, as it's probably intended. Also I didn't like the clamp. Thin plastic. Not built to last. It's a good light, but for certain people. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: overall, it is a good product and adds a brilliant blueish-white color to your tank. it will fit just about anywhere on the tank you would like to put it and doesnt take up much space. the only complaint i have is with the jbj 14,000k bulbs. they seem to be inconsistent as far as the color contrast goes. one of the bulbs leans more towards the blue spectrum and doesnt seem to be quite as bright. the other leans more towards the white spectrum and seems to be a little brighter. im sure this doesnt happen often and is just a slight deffect in the bulb or bulbs. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This 70 watt lamp is great for my purpose I don't use this lamp for reef tank like others Just for the good look of an all fish tank with macro algae. I still need to see if that would reduce my nitrate content but the look itself worth the money and it doesn't cost too much on electric bill and I don't need a chiller because of that Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I bought the 70W Viper HQI Lamp (comes with a 1400K bulb). Pros- The refugium(29G) under my display tank(60G) is loaded with lots of accessories so I dont have much room for a large light. -It packs alot of light into a small space and doesnt add any heat to my tank. Cons- The clamping part is not reversible and doesnt grab the side of a glass tank very well (top trim gets in the way). However I was able to flip the clamp upwards to clamp on the back edge of my tank stand. - The ballast is somewhat large (4.5"x 5"x 12") but the cord is nice and long so it doesnt crowd a small nano tank. Overall- Its a great light but like anything, you need to make sure it will suit your needs. My next bulb will be 10K Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I took the canopy off my JBJ Nano 24 and installed this lighting system. My tank is brighter, algae growth has slowed, and with the open top, it actually runs cooler, even with a metal halide system! Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
