Kent Marine

Description: Removes organic pollutants, stains, and entrained toxic gases in marine and freshwater aquariums or ponds. Contains the finest pelletized activated bituminous coal based carbon. Pore size is in the 20 to 2,000 Angstrom range, ideally suited for removal of large organic molecules. Super activated with very high iodine and molasses numbers. Less than .2% ash making it suitable for sensitive species such as discus. Will not leach phosphates or promote undesirable algae growth, suited to sensitive reef systems! Engineered for water flow, will not clog easily like small granular or pelleted carbons. Out performs any carbon especially coconut shell!

Directions: Reef Carbon is dusty. This is a necessary characteristic of the finest carbons and is a small price to pay for a carbon that is so active, low in phosphates, and ash, so rinse well in cold running tap water. This will take some effort. IN THE AQUARIUM: Place in a polyester bag or filter chamber and position for maximum water flow through the carbon. IMPORTANT: You can use as any other carbon, but best results will be obtained by using any carbon for only 3 days per month or so. (This is because any carbon will continue to remove trace elements long after it is totally plugged with organics.) Use only enough to remove the color from the water.

Considerations for use: Reef Carbon is also soft (this is due to pore size and makeup) and could release dust into the system if mechanically stirred too rapidly. Do not place where water will drop a large distance directly onto the product or churn it violently. Because Reef Carbon is so active, you can use considerably less than with other carbons (about 1/4 lb. or 1 cupful per 100 gallons of tank capacity, you may need more or less depending on how dirty the tank is). Reef Carbon will have done its job, so dose the tank with Kent Marine Essential Elements, Discus Essential, Freshwater Essential, or A F Cichlid Rift Lake Trace Elements as appropriate for your type of system to restore trace elements removed by any carbon. CAUTION: Recent products introduced by other manufacturers that contain strong enzymes may dissolve the binder that holds Reef Carbon together. If this happens the carbon can come apart and cause an ugly mess in your tank. Because of this, DO NOT USE ENZYME PRODUCTS WITH Reef Carbon! Simply remove the carbon, use the product, then replace the carbon several days later.

Contents: Bituminous coal based, steam activated, pelletized carbon.

Precautions: Rinse well prior to using.

Great product

I have been using Kent Reef Carbon for many years in my 135g reef tank, my office 24g nano reef tank and my bosses 29g nano reef tank.....very reliable product. Follow the instruction for replacing media. Many years ago aquarists thought the cheaper grade carbon that was "dustier" might be a cause of HLLE. I had been using a cheaper grade carbon at the time and had a blue hippo tang and emperor angle that got HLLE. Unfortunately I gave the fish back to my LFS to see if they could help them. Many years later I dismissed the carbon/HLLE argument and went back to carbon. I started using Kent brand and since then I have a blue hippo tang that is going on 10 years old and is fat and happy and very healthy. I also have a juvenile emperor angel again that is doing very well.

Top Quality

Kent carbon is the best I've found anywhere, low dust and works great! I can load my canister filter with a quart of this and it works effectively for two months, maybe longer but I have a high fish load in my 80 gallon tank. Water remains crystal clear for the duration of the carbons life, you cant go wrong with the products quality and price.

Great Carbon

Kent reef carbon has very little dust. The pellets are hard reducing grinding in a reactor. Clears the water well. Overall a great carbon!

Awesome

I picked up some of this while I was fighting some Hair Algae. I liked that it was designed for reefs (no coconut shell) I ran it in a TLF Phosban reactor, and in 24hrs I noticed a big water clarity difference. I now run this all the time, and change it monthly. I like the size of the pellets, won't filter through the reactor.

Reef Carbon

Kent Marine Reef Carbon works very well at polishing the water. After a 1 cup carbon change I notice the water clarity improves with 12 hrs in my 200gl reef tank. Excellent product!
