Kessils most efficient LED module yet!

The Kessil A80 is perfect for nano mixed reef tanks, most soft coral tanks, and fish only tanks too. The design of the A80 integrated the body as the actual heat sink for the module allowing for fanless operation making it totally silent. The LEDs in the A80 are packed into Kessil's Dense Matrix array allowing for deep penetration and high power output while giving you control over the intensity and overall color.

Spectrum Range - 10,000K - 20,000K

  • Integrated heat sink
  • Dimmable
  • Kessil Logic
  • Color Tuneable
  • Canopy Mount included
  • Compatible with Spectral Controller
  • Connect multiple with unit link cables

Design

The new innovative design of the A80 integrated the heatsink for the LEDs right into the body of the light allowing for high heat transfer without the need for a fan. The fanless design makes the module virtually silent in operation making them perfect for bedrooms, offices, and other areas where absolutely no noise may be required.

Dense Matrix LED

Kessil has spent many years developing and researching what LEDs and has their unique array that they build in-house packing numerous diodes into an area no larger than a dime created a nice even blend of colors and producing a very broad spread of light. With such a tight pack of LEDs, the individual colors are thoroughly mixed before the light even leaves the optic lens reducing hot spots and providing uniform coloration throughout the tank.

Kessil Logicâ„¢

After many years of R&D, Kessil Logicâ„¢ can be found on all of Kessil's LED lights. The A80 allows you to fine tune the overall color and intensity that the light puts out while keeping a spectrum that will be optimal for coral health and growth. With the Kessil Spectral Controller or your favorite aquarium controller that has a 0-10v reference, you can set complete day cycles that ramp up, down, while keeping a consistent output and spectrum.

Product Questions

I want to ramp the light up and down (sunrise/sunset). Will the spectral controller be compatible and/or what other equipment will I need?
Question by: Randall Douglas on Dec 2, 2023, 10:41 AM
hi there, it would be compatible however you would also need to purchase the 90 degree unit link cable.

Answer by: Grace (BRS Staff) on Jan 18, 2024, 2:36 PM
Would this a80 provide a good shimmer down to the sandbed of a 16" tall tank? Not looking to grow corals with it, I have t5s. Just looking to provide a little pop and that kessil shimmer. Thanks!
Question by: Stacey on Jan 20, 2020, 7:50 AM
Hey there!

When you are only using Kessils the shimmer is really pronounced. However, on a tank with T5's a lot of the shimmer will be taken away. I would suggest at least the A160 to help the light really penetrate the tank and shine through the T5 light.

Take care

I am setting up a 40 breeder tank. I plan on mainly fish and some soft corals. Do you think 2 a 80 would work out?
Question by: mike fuller on Jan 3, 2019, 1:42 PM
Thank you for reaching out to Bulk Reef Supply! Yes, two A80 units evenly spaced should do the trick as they have a recommended spread of 18" each. I hope this was helpful. Please reach back out if you have any further questions!

Would this be a good light to use for a refugium? I have eshopps R300. I'll be adding algae like Cheeto etc
Question by: Adam Johnson on Feb 12, 2018, 8:13 PM
Thanks for contacting BRS!
This light is recommended for coral growth, we would recommend using the Kessil H80 for that purpose.

Will this grow soft, lps, and sps corals in my ten gallon tank. Also you may not know the answer to this but I currently have the asta lumini for the tank will this keep my corals alive for about a month while I save up for a better this light.
Question by: Newreefer on Oct 8, 2017, 7:17 AM
Hey there,
Thanks for getting in touch with us in regards to lighting your ten gallon aquarium. I can say that I have personally used this light over a Nuvo ten gallon and was able to grow even a Deresa clam on the bottom. This light should allow for the growth of anything that you would want to have in that ten gallon. For higher light demand critters you may want to strategically place them to keep them in a good area of coverage depending on the length of the tank. Please let me know if there is anything else that we can assist with. Thanks!
Answer by: Tyler Schafer on Oct 14, 2017, 2:37 PM
Would this work in conjunction with two a160's and a spectral controller. I was thinking of putting this in the middle of the 160s on a IM30L.
Question by: Johnm on Sep 15, 2017, 2:40 PM
Hey there,

This would likely not be an effective solution. Part of the issue is that the Spectral Controller can only be set to one schedule and set of ramp up/ramp down. Since the A80 is only 15 watts, you may find that you want different intensity settings compared to more powerful options like the 160s.

Regards

Would one of these work for a 32 gallon biocube that is 21x21x19 or should I use two?
Question by: David on Jun 7, 2017, 11:57 PM
I would recommend at least a pair of A80's for a tank of this size, and that would really only be suitable for a low-light setup. If you intend to keep higher light corals in the tank, particularly anywhere near the bottom, I would likely step up to an A160 or for an sps dominated tank even an A360.

Happy reefing!
Answer by: Zack on Jun 13, 2017, 8:35 PM
Can two of these work on a 45 gallon long 48' long 18' wide 13'high?
Also the how long are the wires to run a connection for two lights into the spectral control ?
Question by: Adam on Jun 7, 2017, 10:35 AM
Due to the relatively low output and small size of the light arrays, these are best used on very small tanks and may not serve well on a tank of those dimensions. We would typically recommend a pair of A160's for a mixed reef, or perhaps a pair of A360's for an sps dominated tank. For linking fixtures together, there are link cables available in 6ft or 20ft lengths. The spectral controller itself has a 6ft cable to extend to the master Kessil fixture.

Have a great day!

Can I control this light using a reef keeper light?
Question by: Larry on Jun 5, 2017, 8:36 PM
So long as you have the ALC module, you can control the Kessil through the 0-10v dimming port and you'll just need the control cable to plug the light into the ALC. From there, you can control dimming and spectrum.

Happy reefing!
Answer by: Zack on Jun 13, 2017, 2:58 PM
I'm looking to run both a nano and my main setup. I have A360s on my main setup run off of a spectral controller. Can I slave one of these off of the A360s on the main system?
Question by: Lukas on May 30, 2017, 10:37 AM
I'm afraid the spectral range on the H series grow lights is different from standard reef lights and will require the H series specific controller.

Happy reefing!
Answer by: Zack on Jun 7, 2017, 2:57 PM
Without a controller (Kessil or Apex) you have to manually turn the unit on/off correct?

Also, with either controller, can you control spectrum from it? Or are you just controlling the intensity?
Question by: Abram on May 25, 2017, 5:26 PM
Hi Abram,
The A80 Lights without an external controller would need to be manually turned on/off through the tuning dials or the power source. Most people will use a cheap Christmas light style timer to control the on and off function so the spectrum and intensity are always the same when it is on then.
If you use an Apex, or the Kessil controller you can adjust the intensity and the spectrum from the controllers.
Thanks for the questions and have a great day!

If I was to put this on my frag tank 12x12x5 would I be able to keep sps in the center of the tank and the lps on the outside ?
Question by: william Duong on Jan 24, 2017, 12:45 PM
Great question! This light is severely under-powered to utilize outside of a 1gal-15gal nano tank. It would not have enough PAR output to cover your size of tank and adequately support SPS. We have an A80 on a small 5gal nano tank in the office and it is just the right size at 75% power. I would recommend a Kessil A360W Tuna instead. :-)
Answer by: Randy on Jan 28, 2017, 7:37 AM
Can I control this with an apex controller? What would I need to do so?
Question by: Aj on Jan 1, 2017, 10:23 PM
Hey there! You can absolutely control the A80 with the Neptune Apex! All you need is the cable listed below. :-)

If I have a 10g tank and I want soft coral and lps like zoanthids, candy cane, and hammer coral should I use this light. Right now I have the current USA orbit marine would this light be a nice upgrade or would it be like the same as I have now.
Question by: Kevin Haynes on Dec 27, 2016, 9:29 PM
Great question! This light is perfect for LPS and Softies in a nano tank that size! One of our employees has that exact setup. :-)
Answer by: Randy on Jan 2, 2017, 7:29 AM
As far as a price point would this light work well on a refugium 8"x15"? I understand that the Kessil purple is best, but is more than double the price. Thanks
Question by: Nick Scaccia on Nov 7, 2016, 10:14 AM
Hey there, thanks for reaching out to us! I would say that this could be used as a refugium light, however the spectrum it produces would not the most conducive to growing macro algae effectively. :-)
Answer by: Randy on Nov 7, 2016, 5:56 PM
Hey guys! Your thoughts on a couple of these on a 20 gallon long? 30x12x12?
Question by: Sean on Nov 6, 2016, 8:04 PM
Hey there, thanks for reaching out to us! I would recommend two of these lights for a 20gal Long tank. :-)
Answer by: Randy on Nov 7, 2016, 5:26 PM
Hi, I was wondering whether this light could house simpler sps, such as bird nest and maybe some montipora In a IM 10 gallon? Also what is the par numbers as I have not found any?
Question by: Francisco on Nov 6, 2016, 1:14 PM
Hey there, great question! In a small 10gal tank like yours, I would say that these lights can sufficiently grow easier demand SPS like the ones you mentioned. Unfortunately, we have not given this light our PAR readings test and do not currently have those levels available at this time. :-)
Answer by: Randy on Nov 8, 2016, 4:40 PM
I have a 72 gallon bow front. Could I do say 3 of these. I have mostly softies with a few lps coral. Won't be doing sps
Question by: Jon Doyle on Nov 6, 2016, 12:08 PM
Hey there, thanks for reaching out to us! These lights are geared more towards nano/pico type of tanks. I would say that they are going to be under-powered in spread and PAR to properly light your tank. :-) I would recommend at least 2-A360W Tuna Blue fixtures or a single AP700.
Answer by: Randy on Nov 8, 2016, 4:36 PM
Would two of these be enough for a IM 25 lagoon? I cannot find any par numbers.
Question by: Jeff C on Nov 4, 2016, 8:27 AM
Hey there! Two of the A80s would not be sufficient enough PAR for that tank. They are geared towards smaller tanks, such as the IM 8gal. :-)
Answer by: Randy on Nov 4, 2016, 1:45 PM
Will 3 of these work on a 72inx24inx24in tank?
Question by: Daniel on Nov 3, 2016, 2:53 PM
Hey there! These lights are geared more towards nano and pico sized tanks. Unfortunately, they are far under powered to cover a tank that size. I would recommend 2-3 Kessil AP700s instead. :-)
