Maxspect Gyre Generator Flow Pump Information

Product Manuals & Documentation

New! Silent Suspension Magnet Mount dampens vibration and minimizes noise.

Next Generation of Water Moving Technology

The Maxspect Gyre 50W (maximum flow rate - 5000GPH) is the world`s first "Gyre"- generating water moving device for aquariums. Compared to traditional powerheads and wavemakers that are based on propeller nozzle flow technology, the Maxspect Gyre is based on advanced crossflow technology which produces massive horizontal water movement leaving little to no dead spots in its wake.

Gyre Generation - New -Crossflow Technology

A) Virtually no dead spots
B) Evenly distributed flow rate throughout the entire aquarium
C) Water bounces back from the other side to create a full circulation, ie. generating "gyre flows"

Other Pumps - Standard Propeller Nozzle Technology

A) Dead spots with relatively poor water movement
B) Very strong flow in the center, making coral placement very difficult
C) Very weak flow near the other end of the aquarium

Why gyre generator and not wavemaker?
Wavemakers excel in making waves, while waves are spectacular to watch in motion, they are in fact moving the majority of the water vertically up and down, with relatively low horizontal movement, especially near the bottom of the aquarium.

On the other hand, gyre generators excel in moving sheer flow of water from one side of the aquarium to the other. The sheer flow of water is so strong that i would bounce back from the opposite site to achieve full circulation within an aquarium, ie. generating "gyre flows".

Gyres are ocean current systems that basically move the water in a circular way. A spiral oceanic surface current driven primarily by the global wind system and constrained by the continents surrounding the three ocean basins (Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian). Each ocean basin has a large gyre in the subtropical region, centered around 30° north and south latitude. Smaller gyres occur at 50° north latitude in the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The direction of a gyre`s rotation is determined by the prevailing winds in the region, with the large subtropical gyres rotating clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and counterclockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.

Comments: This product works exactly as advertised. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I am using the Maxspect Gyre 130 in a 29 gallon reef tank and it produces a perfect variable current that eliminates most dead spots and keeps a beautiful flow. The unit is very powerful and I had to dial it way down for my small aquarium. The unit allows you to customize your flow in numerous ways to get that perfect current flowing through your tank. It's obvious that a lot of time and thought went into designing this product. I replaced four circulation fans with this one unit. It's time to make a model for nano tanks!

Comments: I have the 130 in a RSM 250. More than enough power. I had one RBT Anemone that didn't like the flow and moved to a new location in the tank. The other 5 RBT's like the flow and really extend their tentacles way out into the flow. I personally like the alternating setting. I have mine set for a 6 second wave at power level 8 and turn it down to power level 6 when the moon lights go on. The 6 second power pulse gives a very natural wave across the whole length of the tank all the way to the sand bed. When the wave hits the opposite side, it makes everything sway in the opposite direction. So, at power level 8 there is enough power to return the wave back to the original side. It is very mesmerizing to watch everything waving back and forth to the pulse. The hand control is very intuitive and easy to learn. Very easy to install. The packageing is over the top with a nice tin box, (very classy). The unit has only been in operation for a week and so far I really like it. I'm setting up another reef tank and I'm definitely going to get another one for the new tank too. My only complaint is with the dry side magnet. The rubber that's attached to the magnet to protect the tanks glass peeled off in just one week to the point that it's now distorted and can't be reattached. So, I just removed it and it's fine without it. Probably partially my fault. I was sliding the dry side magnet to straighten the Gyre while it was attached and the friction against the tank glass caused the rubber to pull away from the mount. Because of this small issue I took away one star. I think Maxspect should use a better adhesive to glue the rubber to the dry side Magnet. Other than that it's a fantastic product.

Comments: This thing is great! It's simple to use and easy to set up. Almost completely silent, I only hear it if the house is empty and nothing else is making noise in which case I hear a very low hum. It replaced two power heads and provides flow throughout the whole tank. And that's at only 50%. Definitely recommended!

Gyre 130

Comments: I wanted one circulation pump that would replace 5 pumps and a wave maker in my 75 gallon reef tank. The Gyre 130 is now the only pump on my tank. I have had it about a week and it does a great job moving the water set at a 50% constant flow rate. Very easy to set up and I have it on the same end as the sump return outlet so the water is all moving in the same direction. I have one side of the 130 pointing slightly up and the other side slightly down with the pump about 2 inches below the surface of the water. I didn't want a direct blast of water going right at some corals. So far I really like the pump especially how it moves water and eliminates the clutter of multiple pumps in the show tank. Quality excellent and it is very quite.

Comments: This pump is AMAZING at moving water! I had to turn it down as my Frog Spawn didn't like the new current in the tank. That said, it's great at reaching parts of the tank that were once dead spots! Fantastic product!!!

Comments: Simply stated, it moves a lot of water! If you have a sand bed, it's likely to alter it somewhat. The pump allows lots of versatility through the controller. I have not had it long enough to speak about durability. It's nice that additional replacement parts are provided, but of course begs the question why. Either kind company, or they know something about their product. Overall, this replaced two Tunze 6105 and provides better and very remarkable flow in my 180 gallon sps tank. Aesthetically, blends in well near the top of the tank. Best looking and best gyre flow of any pump or pumps that I've seen to date

Gyre f150

Comments: First of all have it in a 180g long and as advertised it can move massive amounts of water. Makes waves, pulses, and deep cyclic sand sifting pulls of water to move detritus if you want. The only drawback I have found is the gyre blades are cheap and delicate at best. I have small cerith snails and they get sucked through cage and blades start breaking. After going though the replacements in the kit and ordering more at 35$ a set I suggest manufacturer revisit cage dimensions. An MP40 will suck in and blast out a snail and not even flinch. Overall a great water mover, buy spare blades
