Neptune Systems

The Automatic Feeding System (AFS) is the only automatic fish feeder designed specifically to work with the Apex AquaController. Not only does it seal your food to keep it dry, but it meters out small amounts of food on the schedule you set right in your Apex. And, you can set up more complex feeding routines that tell it to feed only after doing things like turning off your pumps, skimmer, etc. and then having them come back on automatically after feeding time!

Features

  • Feeds pellet or flake food in varying amounts Apex can be set so that the AFS will feed from one time to as many times as you like throughout the day
  • Connects via the Apex Aquabus “Stay Dry” system has a sealed food container that extends and retracts for each feeding. This keeps food dry and prevents clumping and clogging.
  • The lowest setting feeds just a few grains of pellet food so multiple small feedings are possible
  • Allows for optimal feeding — small amounts many times a day
  • Feedings can be combined with other operations such as powering off return pumps, skimmer, etc. and then automatically turning them back on after a set amount of time.
  • Adjustable mounting clip extends up to two inches (or velcro can be used) so it will work in almost every aquarium configuration.
  • Includes 10' AquaBus-mini Cable Compatible with the Apex, Apex Lite, and Apex Jr. AquaControllers.
  • Multiple feeders can be daisy-chained together so that you can have more feed for extended periods away from home or if you want to feed two different kinds of foods.

Bad unit, bad service

Very nosiy! Seems like a 20 dollar product. On top of the poor product, mine broke after just 2 weeks of usage, feeding 1 time a day. The hopper refuse to go back in fully, and feeds 2 times when it's only suppose to feed once. Neptune has a pretty bad warranty process, after they tell me to try this and that I have to pay for shipping back to them so they can try and fix it. This will be my last Neptune product.

inconsistent feeding / buggy

I hope nobody is naive enough to put this right on their tank. I recommend testing it over a bowl or something first. If you do that, you will find that it has up to 800% of error. Said differently, you'll see anywhere from 1/4 the food you expect it to output, to 4 times more than you expect. Hence 800% variation. Then when you look at how it is designed, you'll understand why. There must be better designs out there. Hopefully Neptune comes up with something better. So make sure you take that into account when designing your feeding schedule. It is really tough though since you don't know what you are going to get. Secondly, the feeder is buggy. If you configure your schedule to start feeding at midnight, it will freeze the feeder forever and it will never feed. After spending over an hour each night for a couple days with Neptune tech support, I learned about this bug. Note: I was happy that Neptune answered my question, but note that it was very very hard for me to get answer from them. I wouldn't have gotten an answer if I wasn't persistent. They kept keep giving me the run around and wouldn't answer my question, which was..... "why won't my feeder work. What am I doing wrong? Or what is wrong with code that was auto generated by their tool (Fusion)." It wasn't until I asked to talk to an engineer many many times that the Tech Support Manager put me on hold for another 30 mins and came back with an answer from engineering. And note that he said previously he already talked to an engineering about this. Now that I know what the issue was, I'm fairly confident that nobody even looked at the code that was generated. If they had, they would have found it in the first 5 mins of the phone call, which would have saved me and Neptune systems man hours of time. So in a nutshell, my experience so far has not been good. So please take this info and do as you please. Hope this helps.

Lame

So noisy, I can't believe it passed QA for Netpune to sell. It works, but again for 100$ not worth it. Sounds horrible, youtube it.

Loud, but works great!

I do like the AFS. It does what it is supposed to do and does it well. I have never had it jam and it always dispenses the pellets as needed no issues. It is a little loud and cumbersome to mount as the mounting bracket seems a little flimsy. It is also a little confusing to program at the moment, but that may change in the future.

bulky and loud

The AFS works, but is way too loud like grinding coffee, also is to bulky, if you set it up on the back of your aquarium you will need a several inches from the wall to get installed, also I thinks is not well designed because the AquaBus connector are in the face so when you plug the cable will still need more inches of space. You will need to set it up on a side but will not look very fancy. Also the cap fells like will lose in any second. In my case is a rimless tank and is way too big, loud and need a lot of space to set it up. Not a bad product but bad design.

APEX feeder

The APEX auto feeding system is fantastic, easy to install and works as advertised. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the food floats too long before it sinks. To correct this problem, I made a floating ring out of a plastic lid. The food drops into the lid and is kept there until it sinks. Problem solved and only took me 30 minuets to fix.

Amaze-balls

This thing is absolutely fantastic and makes it worry free to feed the fishes while I'm away. I took off half a star for the noise that it makes but it's not a deal-breaker

Fantastic

Mounted under a canopy over a 220 saltwater tank. Works great so far. Fish love the sample pellets that come with it. Now I need to program my Apex to turn off the skimmers and pumps during the feeding cycle. Hope I can figure that out. It doesn't look that hard

Very easy setup

Setup was very easy, simply followed the directions that were supplied in the box. I'm feeding 2x per day with one rotation. The problem was with the food pellets I'm using. I bought sinking variety but the surface tension of the water still floats 80% of the food. It was just drifting down the back of aquarium into the sump. Solution: I fashioned a floating ring from the top of a vegetable freezer container. It floats directly below the feeder and the food falls into the floating ring giving the fish an opportunity to feed. Eventually the pellets will sink and the sump does not have any food in it.
