When connecting a MP40 to the WXM following the procedure is confusing. The procedure to connect it is 4 pages down from where you download and update the firmware. Which is at the start of the connection procedure. You have to connect it then go and update the firmware.

The setup might be a little bit tricky at first if your not familiar with vortech pumps, but pretty easy just take your time. And if your having trouble, Paul at neptune systems will help you out programming it if your apex is connected to the internet! Now setting up custom pump modes throughout the day, night, and feed modes is all automated and super easy!!

If you have an Apex and a Vortech this is a must have. No more manually changing modes! This thing works great, a little bit of setup/programming on the Apex and I have nicely timed, random flow throughout the day and auto night mode - fish and corals are loving it as much as I do!

I have a bit of an issue with the WXM downloading the firmware from the Apex so that I could update my two vortechs, but unplugging the module a few times and everything was great.
The manual that is included with the unit is pretty good to.
Overall I am very happy!

Not too sure what took me so long getting this. No more resetting night mode and now can control the MP10 ES through my iPad or and web enabled device. If you want to change the pump set up, now you don't have to fool with the colors. Setup was easy too. This is a must have!

Product works flawlessly, once you get it talking to your Vortech. But that setup process may not be straightforward. Was not for me.
I have a very old Vortech, which requires using the WMX to upgrade the Vortech's firmware. The WMX did this, but The process did not occur exactly as the instructions indicated. I certainly thought I was following the instructions, but the requisite blinking color codes on the Vortech did not occur in the manner indicated. I was afraid that I had messed up my pump.
However, the firmware upgrade apparently DID occur, and the WMX began communicating flawlessly with my pump.
I've been surprised to see how much I enjoy only having to put my Apex into feed mode and have everything go into feed mode - Vortechs included. And I love the fact that losing power no longer means having to reset night mode.
But a final thing to be careful of... Every possible pump intensity does is not possible on all pumps. Aparently all Vortechs have a minimum speed that no Apex programming will override. As such, I can set my MP10 for a 20% pump speed, but not 10%, as that violates the minimum speed.
I would recommend this to friends. These small annoyances are nothing next to the great utility this device provides.

I absolutely LOVE this module as a companion to my Vortechs and Apex system. I use to hate having to reset the Night schedule on my pumps every time the power went out or I had to unplug the pumps for some reason. Now, with the schedule being programmed into the WXM, it will get all pumps back on line once the power is restored. Also, the Feed program that allows me to turn the pumps power down to like 10% is excellent as well. Combining this with a Tunze speed variable pump will make feeding my tank so much easier as well. Again, a MUST have for reefers that own vortechs with their Apex system!

Like the previous reviewers mentioned, if you own Vortech pumps and an Apex this is a no brainer decision to pick this module up. The ability to tap into the power of the Vortech pumps by cycling through the various modes throughout the day is perfect for any form of saltwater aquaria, especially SPS tanks that love the random flow. Really part of my initial decision to buy the Apex Aquacontroller was due to the power of the WXM. The Reefkeepers currently do not offer the ability to control Vortechs and have been slow to even bring Tunze control to the market. This module makes the already robust feature set of the Apex just that much better. Make sure you have your Ecotech drivers' firmware updated before you connect up the WXM, it helps a ton with syncing everything up. I honestly was up and programming my pumps in less than 1/2 an hour. Works as advertised could not be any happier.

Vortech pumps are a pleasure to use, and support an amazing variety of operational modes. Changing modes from the Vortech controller is a strictly manual process, so the Neptune Apex controller with Wireless Expansion Module was added to support reef automation. After updating the Vortech drivers' firmware from the WXM - use manual mode for this - setup was a relatively straight-forward process. Automation of the EcoSmart pumps is an operational pleasure! The pumps' performance profiles can be fully automated and it's great to change the pumps' behavior according to schedule or event (program selected daytime modes and variable maxium intensity, feed mode, night mode that's unaffected by powering down the pump drivers, etc.)If you are a Vortech and Neputune owner - this is a must-have upgrade. If you have Vortech pumps and are considering aquarium automation take a close look at the Neptune Apex.
