Monitor/Control - Temp

The base unit includes software which is capable of monitoring temperature. The monitored data can be displayed on the LCD display, the Apex`s web page, or through the AquaNotes iphone application. All monitored probes data is logged into the internal nonvolatile memory for later retrieval. All probes support digital calibration.

Integrated 4 Outlet Control

The base unit includes 4 independently controllable outlets. Each of the 4 outlets is rated for a total 8 amps and the total current draw must be less than 15 Amps. All 4 outlets use relays to control the power to the outlets.

Galvanic isolation on probes

Galvanic isolation on the probes results much more reliable and accurate probe readings. While these features increase costs we feel that probe accuracy is absolutely critical for monitoring/controlling your tank, unlike many competing aquarium controllers.

State of the Art Electronics Integration

  • Only 32 bit processor on an Aquarium controller
  • Over 16 times more code space & 5X faster than competitive controllers, which guarantees future expandability.
  • Over 8 times data storage memory than the competition
  • 1 year’s worth of data logs can be stored internally
New Enhanced Control Functionality
  • Day of Week functionality
  • Sub minute control added on EnergyBar controlled devices
  • Default outlet state for all EnergyBar outlets
  • Second resolution control
Sunrise and Sunset Simulation

The Apex has a special control function which can be used to simulate the varying lengths of days throughout the year. This feature is used to make the length of daylight hours longer in the summer than in the winter. This results in a more realistic simulation of natural lighting variations.

Moon Cycle Simulation

The Apex has another special control function which can be used to simulate the moon cycle in your tank. The lunar simulator is used for this feature and is capable of varying the intensity of light emitted from its LEDs. The intensity variations are controlled by the Apex which is preprogrammed with correct intensity values for each day of the moon cycle. The Apex automatically updates the intensity value depending upon the current setting of the Apex`s clock. With this artificial moon cycle, it is possible to induce corals and fish to spawn.

Each pump to be controlled can have an user configured period in which both the on and off times are fully programmable and can range from 1 second to 999 minutes. A variable length feed timer cycle can be initiated with the press of a button and will disable some or all of the pumps in the system (programmed by the user).

  • Expandable to 7 AquaBus modules (1 Apex Display and 7 other AquaBus modules)
  • Add optional probe modules to monitor additional probes
  • Add additional EnergyBars to control more outlets
  • All AquaBus modules allow for easy firmware updates
  • Probe modules available for additional Temperature, pH, ORP, Conductivity/Salinity, and dissolved oxygen probes
  • Module firmware updates done through AquaBus. No need to disassemble controller, and individually update modules
AquaBus Features

Do Not Buy!

I would give zero star if I could. The screen is turning blank after used only one month, contacted the company and they insisted of fixing it. I wanted it exchange since damage-free products do not break in one month. They claimed it was an easy fix and the "The display is a non critical piece to your system" according to the tech support in the email. So got my Apex Jr. back in the late February after it was "fixed". The display failed again and turing blank again in the middle of March, so I was being patient and agreed to another phone session and let the tech agent to fix it over the internet. At the end of March, the display once again failed, turned blank and blinking again. So I contacted the company and tried to have it return, but the company still insisted to fix it by shipping it back, and I refused. I do not think the company knows how to fix the system since they tried it couple times, and the same problem still goes on. I would not recommend anyone to buy this product, because the company will not take any return or exchange even the system is fail only after one month of use. If you have any problems with the system, you need to be extremely patient because you will be emailing back and forth with the tech agent, and doing endless phone session!

Too complicated !!

I have the apex controller for two weeks already. I still can not get it to work yet. Very frustrating. I am getting helps from the tech support, but it is very time consuming. You have to email them for support. Don't expect any direct phone support unless you have reservation w/ them first thru email.

Excellent with minor quibbles

I was having trouble regulating temperature in my 25g nano tank and finally gave in and purchased a controller. Boy was it worth every penny! Being able to program when the heater and fans come on has made regulating temperature a breeze at a time of year when there can be wild fluctuations in room temperature due to the weather. I also like that I'm able to hook up my fuge light and program that on a timer. Eliminates the need for a bulky digital timer I'd been using. I have three minor quibbles with the Apex Jr, and it's more about what doesn't come with it than what does. The first is the Internet connection. I read up on Apex before buying. It said that a wired connection was necessary for setup only. It wasn't until I actually went through all the steps for setting it up that I realized the device doesn't support WiFi out of the box. You have to buy a wireless bridge, another $35 on top of what you've already paid, for the device to work "wirelessly." The other issue is with mounting the probe. They suggest you buy their probe mounts, which is an additional $40. I just slung the temp probe over the side of the tank and it's stayed there no problem, but it's annoying that something as simple as a piece of plastic to hold it in place on the side of the tank isn't included. They mention an Android app, but it didn't work when I loaded it on my Note 4. Apparently they dropped the app years ago and want you to use their website which works just fine, but it's not exactly advertised that it's not supported any longer. I had to go into the reviews to figure out why it wasn't working. All in all those are minor annoyances. If you have the disposable income for an aquarium controller then a little extra for the bridge isn't going to break the bank. And I can't argue with results. Programming is simple and it's kept the temperature even within a few tenths of a degree since I set it up. Worth the money in my opinion.

Product not hold date and time

When power is cycled it looses its date and time. Neptune costumer support it atrocious, waited all for email reply and all they told me was how to set the clock! Which I obviously new how to do. They will not take phone calls.

As a newcomer to automated reef design I can say the Apex hit it out of the park for us. The support was great and the community is one of the most knowledgable. The webcam on the Fusion ap is fun.

Very flexible, Very powerful

Purchased this to control three LED fixtures, fans, skimmer pump, sump light, two WP-40s. I got the apex jr and one EB-8 which allows me to program 12 outlets. So far, control via a locally attached pc, control over the included Internet accessible portal, and control via the display have all been great. I ordered this one afternoon, received the next day and was controlling lights that night. Good deal!

Wish internet hookup was easie

Controller works well and controls temperature within narrow range. Software is easy to use. Did not realize hookup to my home network and internet was so tricky. Wish it came with wireless hookup that was as easy as the software

Perfect for small tanks

A great controller for smaller tanks! Pros - controls all outlets with your phone - set timers, temps, light cycles, etc etc - Elbert's you when things go wrong Cons- really hard to set up, I couldn't even do it, I had to call neptune systems and have them walk me through it. - unit gets really hot All in all, a good controller and I'm planning on adding more to my apex!
