Neptune Systems

The Socket Expansion box is a small power strip with controllable 2 outlets used to reduce the power load on a direct connect (DC) box. Since power is supplied from a different circuit, the Direct Connect box`s power budget is not affected. Features of the Socket Expansion box include:

  • Dual outlets so two devices can be controlled by the same channel
  • High reliability direct wired control connection to Direct Connect outlet
  • It can switch high power (up to 15 Amps) 120V loads
  • The internal relay has negligible power consumption so it does not affect the power budget of the Direct Connect box
  • 2 Mounting Holes for easy installation.

The Truth

Okay so I bought this box after looking at the reviews. Here is what they did not tell you. The box only adds one port to your system. It feels like cheap plastic. Why I don't like it, It has two power cords, one low voltage one which turns it on, the second cord goes into a standard wall outlet or power bar. So yes it does reduce the load off of the controllers power. So what is the Cons: #1) You can't monitor the load on the apex, as the main power does not go into the unit. #2) It requires one outlet on the apex power bar. #3) You can't control the Two sockets individually. Three strikes your out...Sorry look elsewhere.

Simple relay in a nice package

the weakest part of this product is the description, I was not completely sure what I was getting when I ordered it. here is what you get, a relay in a box with 2 sockets and 2 cords, one (the smaller one) plugs in to your DC-8 and triggers the relay, the other (heavier) plugs into the wall. I was having almost daily problems with breakers tripping, my DC-8 getting hot and GFCI nuisance (surge) trips, I used one of these for my chiller and the other for 3X 250W halides, all those problems are solved now, and for a fraction of the price of a DC-8 or DC-4HD
