After years of experience dealing with both American and European equipment, I have to admit that from an engineering point of view, this filter is one of the best designs I have come across. It easily rivals any of the German units I used in Europe and that is saying something! The 'add on' extensions you can get for these filters is also a good idea and which makes them rather unique. I have the filter coupled to an Iwaki MD-100R(T) which is pushing through it 35 GPM and at high pressure. I'm not sure I would get away with this if it were not for the nice big 1 inch threaded ports the filter is fitted with. Also, no leaks despite the pressure. A well thought out unit.

Bought this as a polisher to use on my return pump to my 180G reef tank. I was having a pretty hard time with micro bubbles and this guy completely solved it. After 24 hours there is a night and day difference in my water clarity.
For reference, my return pump is a Mag 12. The only reason I don't give this 5 stars is the directions that came with the pump are poorly written and have grammar mistakes.

I didn't wash my GFO before putting it in the reactor and attatching to the tank - my tank looked like a car rusted to death in it, it was a horrible experience. After a day and a half it was barely any better. I figured I should try something I assumed was not needed on a reef tank with a sump - a canister filter. Within 2 (yeah, two) hours, my tank was crystal clear - the water clearer than pre-GFO!! I thought I was gonna have to tear down my tank and start over but this saved my life - the rocks still have a copper hue, but the water is the best it's ever been!!!

High quality filter. The only problem is that you must make sure the lid is tightened very well, or it leaks. Other than that, it is a great product.

This filter works great on my 125g saltwater reef fish tank. I have had it for a few months now and my water quality has improved visually, I have had no negative effects on my water tests. I just recently replaced some of my sand which stirred up a lot of trapped debris in the sand and made the water cloudy, but after not even an hour you could see the water clearer. About 4 hours later there was hardly a trace that any disturbance had occurred. I am running the filter with a 1100 gallon/hour pump in a split loop system, meaning my return pump is separate from my filter pump, but due to the great flow through the filter I am able to filter more water then the return pump can cycle. I had a Fluval Fx5 that worked ok, but this Nu-Clear filter much easier to clean, better water flow, and better cleaning performance. I would recommend this to anyone.

I set up a new 210 gallon cichlid tank recently. I am using a Proclear 200g wet/dry and 1 Nu-clear 535 w/carbon chamber inside. I bought the Nu-clear after much research for an additional but, separate filter system for this tank set up. I actually thought the water was clear before I started up the Nu-clear. Hah! The water clarity improved to a sparkling clean I have never before seen in any aquarium. This filter rocks! The only issues are that you need to be a little handy to hook it up. You need to have a pressure rated pump - I bought a used Iwaki that had 16 psi head. it works fine and has plenty of outflow. The last issue is that the filter seem to be able to only be cleanable (cleaned ) twice them they are to clogged to use. The filters are a little pricey but, the last several months. GET ONE and experience what clear water really is!
