It does the job. by ANDREAS ALVINE
Experience Level: Expert

Comments: I work in the Aquarium business and have used these before in tricky situations where a heater 'in tank' was not an option. They will to the job BUT it is tricky to understand you do not screw down the fitting that holds the heater in until the heater does not move. You just need to make sure the connection is snug. Too much tightening and you will break your heater. You need to use Rainbow Lifeguard's silicone lube on the seals to get them on (and off) of the heater. The only real draw back to this unit is that European made heaters being metric are oddly sized and some will not work at all in this unit. Another complaint I have with it is that it does not fully submerge the heater. DO NOT USE WITH HYDOR THEO HEATERS! They will break inside these units. Found that out the hard way three days after an install. Ebo Jager will work with them and we have several with Ebo Jagers in them. These are decent enough units but I wish they would supply the rubber bushings made to fit to European made heaters and some of the Hagen slim line heaters. What would really make these the Bee's Knees is if they could make them to fit around the head of the Submersible heaters fully submerging the glass instead of the neck of the heater just under the head. If you are setting up a turtle tank of any real size (80 gallons or over) these external heater modules are a must!!! Turtles are too dang destructive and will eventually kill themselves when they bust a glass heater in their tank and imagine the surprise you will get reaching in to retrieve dead turtles! The new external heaters being made by Hydor are great unlike their glass submersible heaters but when you have to deal with larger installations (150 + gallons) these make a lot of sense. They also help eliminate wire and device clutter inside your tank which is a huge plus. Granted I gave this unit an average review but I do recommend it because it does do the job.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Adding AF 93 by SHIRLEY RAGLIN
Experience Level: Intermediate
Posted on 1/23/2008 from RIDGECREST, CA UNITED STATES
Comments: Hi, I have not had a chance to get it going yet. I have had the set of the AF92 & AF94 set up for at least 30 years and love the system. I just realized adding the AF93 it would help keep my system better for a longer period and in the long run would be a nicer system. Is this actually true. What I need to do to incorporate the unit to what I have already, is to shut off the lines coming out of the aquarium to be able to add it. I wish there was an easier way. My husband will not be able to get to it for another week. Any suggestions. I hope this all makes sense. Shirley

Rated for Up To 100gal.???? by Stillwater

Comments: This single heater module AF-92 is rated by Pentair for up to 100gal,and it only holds a 12" heater. Four phone calls to Pentair, and as it turns out, there is no heater that they know of that is rated for even a 75 gal. tank, that will fit into this module. 100gal.tank x 3 watts per gallon = 300watt heater(aprox.)There are no 300watt heaters 12" long that fit this module.
I would not recommend this product to my friends.
