Peripheral Flow, Closed Loop, Skim Chamber
Red Sea C-Skim 1800 Protein Skimmer - Peripheral Flow, Closed Loop, Skim Chamber
Inlet: Aquarium water is injected into an air pocket above the skim chamber, and is spread evenly around the periphery of the skim chamber walls, preventing turbulent flows on non-aerated water which can de-stabilize the foam production.

Aeration: The PSK aspiration pump recirculates the water in the skimmer, injecting 800 lph (200 gph) of micro air bubbles.

Foaming: The conical top of the skimming chamber concentrates the air/water mixture, forcing it up into the neck of the collection cup where it slowly transforms into dry concentrated organics-laden foam.

Outlet: The out-flowing water is collected evenly from around the periphery of the bottom of the skim chamber where it is almost bubble free.

Control: A skim regulator valve easily adjusts the foaming for a wide range of water conditions providing optimal skimming performance.

User-friendly Control and Design
The compact rectangular design of the C-Skim makes it ideal for in-sump use or stand-alone installation.

All controls and access to the pump are on one face, making set up and ongoing use a simple process.

Control features include the Foam Regulator & FoamView™ Window, Air Control Valve & Silencer, 3-way Skim/Wash/Clean Control Valve, Drain Port, 90 degree rotating outlet suitable for 40mm (1.5") rigid pipe.

Skimmer Neck Washing System
Red Sea C-Skim 1800 Protein Skimmer - Skimmer Neck Washing System Allowing organic sludge to accumulate on the skimmer neck (which will occur if not cleaned regularly) can reduce foam production by 30-40%.

When the C-Skim's patent-pending integrated neck washing system is activated, it diverts water from the skim chamber, spraying concentrated jets of water onto the inside of the neck, washing the accumulate sludge back into the skimmer. Returning the water flow back to normal operation flushes the sludge into the collection cup for easy disposal.

FoamView™
The FoamView™ Window provides a clear view of the foaming action and allows easy and accurate adjustment of foam production. Red Sea C-Skim 1800 Protein Skimmer - FoamView™

Long Term Pollutant Reduction
Red Sea C-Skim 1800 Protein Skimmer - Long Term Pollutant Reduction Tests have shown that over time the C-Skim is extremely effective in lowering the level of oxygen consuming pollutants (COD/BOD) in aquarium water. The graph shows the inverse relationship between the levels of the water borne pollutants and Redox over time. (Results of test performed on a heavily stocked 1000L (250gal) fish tank)

Comments: Red Sea C-Skim 1800 1. Feeder pump is Mag 5 pump with nylon threaded tubing, a threaded ball valve with thread to barb returns, “with” four clamps (each side of ball valve thread to barb, pump female to barb, and skimmer input (use the metal clamps, check and recheck they are secure). Plastic clamps are not suitable for high flow operations. 2. I cleaned skimmer manufacturing process in a bath tub with hot water and a gallon of white vinegar; prior to this I tried Dawn Ultra dish soap. Repeatedly empty skimmer, hose, and pump, empty tub, and run for 30-60 minutes in hot water. 3. Skimmer positioning “has to be” overflow input, skimmer, and then returns. At 11 ½ inches of height a RS300 Reef Octopus sump has 31 gallons of water. 4. I used a 300 Reef Octopus stand at 4 ½ inches up from bottom of sump. 5. I did not obtain consistent results in regard to dry foam production until I put 2nd air intake tube, elbow “with” the plug, and “clear tube” on. Without it I could not maximize flow, air, and skimmer would “overflow” some call over skimming. 6. The elbow on skimmer return requires cap off facing downward, so I turned it slightly 1-2 inches sideways which actually helps downstream effect they discuss in regard to skimmer positioning. The “cap” had to be on for consistent flow as maximum flow and air, no doubts. This included putting on the clear pipe which you eventually want to reduce noise from return and sump water surface. Read and re-read manual, and then do reflect and implement my points, I had very inconsistent results until I did each step. The instructions I followed, and rechecked, why I referenced was the surprises or conflicts with instructions provided. Most of this I pursued for no other reason than I had to make it work. Red Sea makes effectively products and a low cost, they look like cast molded skimmers that are effective and professional in appearance. Like the Prizm Deluxe don’t drop it on a cement floor, and read, and re-rea

Excellent Skimmer and Support

Comments: Got this skimmer from a retailer at a good price, as I started my tank 7/2013. It was a little rocky start, as it wouldn't fit in the sump adequately. Had to set it up outside of the sump, and plumbing the output through the acrylic wall. Then, during the breakin period (for me and the skimmer) some overflowing caused some water spillage. Ultimately, wound up putting a tray underneath it to catch any spillage. Red Sea support is top notch. Called in with concerns of not much skim, and they sent me a new pump. Fitting of pump to body was leaking, and they sent a new one of that. Skimmer is working well, and keeps my 210 Reef tank clean. I will continue to support Red Sea as a company, and if I needed a skimmer for a larger tank, this is one I would get.

Comments: This thing is too large, noisey and functions very poorly. The cup clips kept popping off. the pump broke aftr 2 months. This neck clean option is a joke. Bought a different skimmer and immediately the tank cleared up massive skimmate. Do not waste your money.

Comments: It took 2 days to get the adjustments right for a stable foam column. It definitely needs the 400gph. I think it should say minimum flow 400 rather than optimum flow 400. An Ehiem 1250 (317gph) will not produce a stable foam, rather it oscillates between mid way up and volcanic overflows. I've ordered an Ehiem 1260, while using an old marineland 802 until the new pump arrives. Overall, firm construction, solid unit, now (after 2 days tweaking) performing as advertised. Because it can go "volcano" I recommend draing the foamate back to the sump for a day or two until you are confident you can control the column (if using it externally) or you may find the volume of your sump on your floor within a matter of minutes.

Disappointed

Comments: Bought from an authorized dealer, but not from this retailer. The unit was missing parts upon receipt. Docs state 1.5" rigid pipe works with the unit for extending the drain, however no rigid PVC pipe of any size or fittings would fit. Unit flooded easily just by minor adjustments in the outflow. Used with recommended flow pump. I am no longer a fan of Red Sea skimmers and am looking for a new one.

Comments: Great skimmer it does a good job in my 210gallon mixed reef. the bowl fills up about every three days im running it with a 500gph feed pump just haft to turn it way down on the skimmer. Im giving it 4 stars because it is a pain to try to adjust and the guide does not help you with that at all. the knobs are just too sensitive!

Awesome Skimmer!

Comments: This is a great skimmer for the money. Just for the price, compared to other skimmers to handle similar size systems, you can pay a lot more than this. I have this on my 220 gallon reef systems, loaded with fish and corals. The skim it produces is unreal! I bought a RIO 1400 pump to run it. The controls (which I love) are on the lowest setting because if I raise it up just a little bit, the skim box will fill up in 5 minutes. Maybe you could run it on a lower flow pump. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because the adverstised feature that cleans the throat doesn't work as great as advertised. Even though I do it every day, it still gets filthy enough that I have to wipe it down. Also, the out flow nozzle doesn't feel like it locks into place and I would be concerned that this could come lose on its own.

UNBEATABLE PREFORMANCE

Comments: I have been in this hobby since 1969 when it all started. I have seen many skimmers come and go ,This skimmer is a work horse. I have never seen such dark urine smelling skimmate in my life. Very easy to set up and operate. The wash down keeps it skimming at peak performance. I use a power head with 400 gal capacity to supply water. I have a 20 gal long as a sump and it fits nicely in side, dont waste your money on another skimmer this one is worth every penny and is worth its weight in gold

Efficient Skimmer

Comments: I have had the Red Sea C-Skim 1800 Protein Skimmer for just about a year now and I am very happy with it. It skims very effectively if you keep the unit clean. I have a 180 gallon fish only tank with a 40 gallon sump. The only thing that I would change would be the water outlet connection. The elbow connection is not very rigid and may become loose. For this reason I would suggest placing the skimmer into your sump as I do. It is amazing how much this skimmer removes. My water is always crystal clear.

Great performance/REALLY large

Comments: My old Aqua-C Remora wasn't cutting it. So I decided to go a bit overkill. LOL. Like the other reviewers, I will agree that this thing is HUGE. Plumbing it was a bit of a pain because I didn't want to buy a new sump that would house it, so I'm running it externally. I have one MaxiJet NJ 4500 with a "T" and two ball valves to run the skimmer and the tank return, using PVC for all lines except the skimmer inlet. Once the unit cycled, it quieted up and has been making nice stable, FILTHY foam. DO NOT use water conditioner when adding water to your tank! I know it's a noob mistake, but BOY did it make the unit overskim. LOL. I added tubing to the cup drain and ran it to an empty 3 liter soda bottle. I have a HEAVILY stocked (14 fish) 75 gallon reef tank with a lot of mushrooms, polyps & soft corals.
