Red Sea is pleased to announce the addition of an innovative new salt formula designed to meet the needs of today`s advanced hobbyist. Coral Pro Salt has been specifically formulated for use with "mineral free" Reverse Osmosis, or soft tap water and contains the elevated levels of calcium and buffer capacity that provide the extended availability of these elements, essential for vibrant coral growth. Utilizing the same natural sea minerals used in Red Sea Salt the new Coral Pro Salt will enable all reverse osmosis users and reef enthusiast a superior product with out the need for immediate supplementation.

  • Specially formulated for the use with reverse osmosis water
  • Chemically balanced formula to support the most delicate Corals and other marine life
  • Reaches a stable, natural pH shortly after mixing
  • Free of Nitrates & Phosphates

Corals, calcareous algae and other invertebrates use large amounts of Calcium for the building of their skeletons or shells. The Calcium level in natural seawater at 35ppt is approximately 400 ppm.

The Coral Pro formula provides elevated levels of calcium at the "lower than natural" salinities preferred in reef aquariums. Table shows Calcium levels of Coral Pro mixed in RO water at 24°C 75°F and salinity.

1.021 30.6 ppt 420 ppm 33.4 g/l 1.4 lb/5 US gal

Good Product

Mixes up pretty well. Few necessary steps to mix it properly per the instructions. I was use to mixing Instant Ocean....measure salt, throw a heater in and mix for 24 hours. This salt requires to not mix longer than 4 hours....so I have to plan my weekend water changes a little bit more on when I will be doing my water changes. Besides that, I do like the higher pH I'm getting rather than basic 8.0 I was getting from Instant Ocean. RS has been mixing around 8.3 pH at a salinity of 1.025. Awaiting to see how my corals react to the new salt and a more balanced pH and more of the reef elements I need.

GOOD RESULTS

As I understand it, this salt is mostly dried sea salt with extra Mg, Alk and Ca. I have good results with it and I think it is considered to be the best salt available, by reputation. In keeping a constant supply for my automatic water change, I do, like some others, find some brown material (growth? in the dark in my case) in the bottom of the covered garbage can I use for mixing it. I have heard others say this as well, but I speculate this relates to it being a dried ocean salt product. I do clean out the mixing can every four or five months, not a bit deal. Dissolves well, and I believe it contains the trace elements I need.

Big Mess

As far as keeping my corals, fish and other inverts alive and healthy goes, it works great. As far as repeated usability goes, it is the worst salt mix I've ever used. I mix 30 gallons of salt mix at a time in Rubermaid Brute food-grade plastic trash can I bought for this purpose. I use a Neptune DOS to automate water changes and go through 30 gallons of salt mix in 10-20 days. In the trash can I have an Eheim heater and a MJ900 powerhead to keep the mix moving. My household water is well water, no chlorine, that goes through 2 huge carbon tanks before it hits the 4 stage RO/DI that's used just for the aquarium mixing station. Within 2 or 3 days minerals start coming out of solution and I get what looks like calcium/lime build up all over the heater, powerhead and trash can. I had the same problem with 3 different buckets from the same manufacturer. I'd scrub out the minerals with a towel (NO chemicals) and it comes back everytime I use this brand salt. I told my LFS that recommended this salt and they said they had the same issue and no longer use it. I've since replaced the trash can, heater and powerhead with all new, identical equipment, changed to a different brand salt mix and have not had any such issues. The trash can in which I prepare the RO water never had any issues since I never put any salt mix in it.
