Red Sea Max 250 - The Complete 65 Gallon Coral Reef System The MAX 250 has been designed as a highly specified complete 250 liter coral reef aquarium system. Each component has been specifically designed to work as part of the total system, guaranteeing compatibility and performance suited to maintaining even the most delicate stony (sps) corals.
The following key elements differentiate the Max Coral Reef System from other marine aquariums: |
|
‘Reef Spec’ Lighting, Filtration, Skimming and Circulation: Extensive research and development carried out in our laboratories clearly shows that in order to sustain delicate hard corals such as SPS species, it is essential to meet certain criteria. This is especially true when we remember that many Max aquariums may be purchased by less experienced hobbyists.
Protein Skimming, Filtration & Circulation: Delivering reef spec performance of 3x per hour aquarium volume circulation, and more than a 3:1 water to air ratio, the Turbo injected protein skimmer now has a foam adjustment feature which makes it even easier to use over a wide range of water conditions. The filtration system has been improved to ensure less water flow restrictions. A full sized, adjustable surface skimmer pulls water from the top of the aquarium where most waste collects. This upgrade reduces maintenance and aids water flow through the filter, making air bubble release far less prevalent. New biological media, improved media bags and an upgraded foam filter ensures water flows more freely through the entire filter chamber. The 250 includes a fittings accessory kit which makes it simple to add a chiller, external filter etc.
Lighting: Reef Spec lighting of 4watts per gallon is controlled by a high quality timer and consists of 6 39w T5 Linear Power Compact lamps giving 234 watts output. An additional fan is now included in order to aid cooling during hot periods.
New Cabinet & Color Options: Available in Black and Silver & Pearl White. Cabinet reflects a modern look and designed for proper air flow throughout the cabinet to aid chiller efficiency.
Increased User Friendliness: The hood has been upgraded to allow 3-stage opening. It is now possible to fully open the hood for major maintenance to the aquarium. In addition the cable channel covers are now easier to use, and the main cord leaves the aquarium through a channel in the back of the aquarium rather than from the side. All of these upgrades improve the overall user-friendliness of the system. To further aid you, every Max 250 is supplied with a full length DVD that will guide you through the set up and maintenance of a MAX coral reef aquarium.
Overview: The Red Sea Max 250 combines all the technology necessary to grom and maintain a healthy reef. The Max gives aquarists an opportunity to focus on the joy and beauty of the hobby rather than on the component selection and installation. Optimal lighting, filtration, temperature and circulation make reefkeeping easier than ever before and ensures maximum success for aquarists of all levels.
Filtration & Circulation
The Red Sea Max features a complete 4-stage reef filtration systems, designed to provide perfect water conditions for all reef inhabitants. An adjustable height surface skimmer (a) takes water from where the highest concentration of waste materials is found.
The turbo air injection skimmer developed specifically for the max circulates the water volume through the skimmer more than 3 times per hour at an air/water ratio of 1:3 providing ideal skimming specifications for a hard coral (SPS) reef aquarium. The unique foam adjuster(b) ensures that foam can be produced in all water conditions.
Mechanical filtration removes the large organic substances while Phosophate-free active carbon acts as a large chemical sponge; absorbing dissolved organic carbons from the water. Highly porous bio-media provides a huge surface area for nitrifying bacteria. Additional equipment such as a chiller or an external filter can easily be added with the accessory kit (c) supplies with each unit.
MAX 250 filtration & circulation unit 1 - Accessory Kit (inlet/outlet ports) 2 - 1200 lph circulation pump with adjustable direction outlet 3 - Compartment for accessory pump 4 - Thermostat controlled heater 5 - Mechanical filter sponge 6 - Adjustable protein skimmer with a turbo aspiration pump 7 - Highly porous ceramic biological filter media 8 - Activated carbon chemical filter media 9 - Cartridge for fine (water polishing) filter material 10 - Sponge bubble trap 11 - 2400 lph circulation pump with adjustable direction outlet

Look I bought this item about two years ago I was kind of new to the hobby and I thought I would spend 2K on this and I would have nothing worry about I was waaaaay wrong System design is flawed at least for marine environment with corals and marine fish if someone thinks that system can support anything as is simply wrong. Red Sea max provide you with just small bag of carbon and lousy number of ceramic rings. Of cause you can upgrade, change, improve as I have done but it will cost you a lot and this is not a worst part of that deal the worst part is that that Red Sea max 250 still will be uncomfortable to maintain still will have those flaws of design for example if you serious about hobby you would never buy the aquarium with sump behind the back wall it just wrong. If some one tell you that you can have reef aquarium with just lousy small cooling fan as read sea max has it just wrong Chiller is a must have ,as we'll as whole bunch of other equipment which are painfully difficult to set up cause read sea max design So bottom line if you want to be in the hobby of marine aquarium try to have two separate areas for display tank and sump area it will make things much easier (sump below tank , in other room etc.)

These are nice tanks. My local fish store has one set up. It has nice features for a larger all in one type of reef tank.

Some people have complained that this tank is noisy... I have used it for years with just a hum in the background, if you are having fan or pump issues you should contact Red Sea because their customer service is the best.. I had a fan go out and I sent them an email asking what i needed to do to replace it and they just sent me a new one, with no questions.. This is a great product that is easy to use and the company provides great service.. I highly recommend. I will be buying the next size up if they ever build it...

I have had this tank for a few months now. The good news is that it is an attractive tank and stand combo although a bit pricy. The controls are easy to reach so you can turn components on and off easily. The bad news is that it is very loud. The skimmer makes a huge racket and I have to shut it off at night in order to sleep. The fans are loud as well but some of them turn off automatically when the lights go off so they dont really bother me. If I had to do it over again I would use the $1600 to buy a regular tank and components.

the water pumps are noisy, the skimmer is very noisy, the fans for the lights ARE SUPER noisy. So far my ride with Red Sea Max had not been good. First of all it came with a broken cabinet, and i had to wait 2 more weeks from them to send me a new one. After i finished setting it up, the heater didn't work. so i had to buy a new one. their water pumps are getting louder every day, and now their fan lights are so loud and noisy i am thinking of calling it quits. i spent too much money to have a vacuum cleaner noise in my living room 8 hours a day.

Red Sea really did their research with this aquarium. It has everything a beginner and expert alike would need to get going. The starter kit makes it easy to set up the tank with salt and the appropriate chemicals. Filtration is located behind the tank in special compartments out of view from the tank. No pumps or cords can be seen--only the beauty of the fish, live rocks, and invertebrates. The lighting is superb and offers the tank owner a chance to grow some really unique and special corals. One thing that's really cool about Red Sea is that when you call customer support with any questions, a real, live person answers the phone! This is almost unheard of in business today. You absolutely can't go wrong with this system. I have no doubt it was worth every penny of the cost. If you're going to get a system, why not go for the best! This is it!

We’ve had our Red Sea Max 250 for about 6 months now and are very happy with our decision to purchase one. Set up was extremely easy and the tank looks great. The curved edge design is really nice and I really like being able to have the filter, skimmer, etc integrated in the units without lots of visible cords and hoses and things hanging off the back. The quiet pumps are a plus as well. I would definitely recommend this unit.

I have 5 years of reef keeping experience and purchased the red sea max 250 over a month ago now, the Tank is awesome. It has a high quality build and was really easy to set up and easy to maintain. The tank is quiet and the filtation and lighting are great, it really is a nice looking tank. I have about 60lbs of live lock with sps hard coral's, soft coral's, mushroom coral's, button polyp's, a clam along with 4 fish and shrimp, they all love it and are doing very well. I would recommend this product to anyone. The only thing is the tank might get a little warm in hot climate's and need a chiller. The customer service is very good. If your in the market for an all in one tank this is it.

I've had my tank for only about 2 months so far and I couldn't be happier. Started out with a 45 gallon with external sump in my living room which was a huge mistake! Not only was it unsightly and loud with all the tubes coming out all over the place, but i had to learn how to become a plumber to put it all together! Not cool for a new aquarist and very scary to think that water could end up all over my living room do to my lack of plumbing skills! We almost abandoned the idea of starting a salt water aquarium altogether!
Instead, we took everything back to the store and purchased a red sea max 250! It's like driving a luxury car without having to be a mechanic to design it. Just put the car in drive to enjoy and worry about the oil changes.
If you want luxury this is for you! One plug, no unsightly external tubes, completely self contained with little left to do besides regular maintenance like water changes and filter media maintenance. Thanks to Red Sea we didn't lose out on all the beauty salt water has to offer!

I have had this tank for 9 months now. Fantastic tank, great addition, great looking piece of furniture. Great coral growth. Only downside was tank temperature. A chiller is a requirement for this tank. I held out for 3 weeks, and then had to buy one. Otherwise, really great product!
