This is one of the greatest inventions for us saltwater fish people, You no longer have to wait for the fish to acclimate, you can go do something else for two or three hours, I like to acclimate my fish a long two to three hours now , when before I tried to rush it at one to two hours, I have not had any luck using it as a fish trap, one of the reasons I bought it!! The acclimator alone is worth it , I love this tank !!! Worth every penny. It lets me do my thing instead of watching if a hose is spilling saltwater over my wood floor, or just spilling everywhere. Love it, still I wish I could catch fish with it , I will keep trying, and give you an update...Dave

This product is a good idea but with one problem. The way it's designed to attach to the outside of the main tank with suction cups means that the temperature will be dropping in the acclimation chamber during a long acclimation period. This may not be as big a deal in the summer but in the winter it can mean a drop of more than a few degrees. If you're going through all the trouble to acclimate carefully, how can you temperature shock the fish at the end? To avoid this I've tried to put the chamber inside the tank but the suction cups work so well that it's really hard to "unstick" it when finished. This could have been avoided if the chamber was fitted with a hanging type holder rather than the suction cups.

I've used this to trap, transport and acclimate fish & invertebrates and it's never let me down. I was a bit skeptical of the suction cups at first but boy oh boy do they stick. Providing the lid is secured properly with the velcrow sticker, it will NOT leak any water. There was one little problem I ran into that I sadly didn't notice until after I had trapped a fish. The screws that hold the suction cups in place weren't really tight so water was slowly leaking from them. After the fish was removed, I tightened the screws a bit and it's never leaked one drop since - even while completely full. Very handy.

I had an opportunity to use the XL model with a large specimen I recently bought. I thought that I should acclimate it properly. The first thing I noticed were the oversize suctions cups that hold the unit to the outside of the tank. They held the unit securely for the time I acclimated the coral. I was very pleased with the result. The unit worked perfectly as advertised. I was impressed with the results. I think this is the only way to go if you want to acclimate a valuable animal. I had a question and contacted their costumer service department and they were very happy to assist me.
I would highly recommend it to a friend.

I really wish I had bought this sooner. The Acclimate is a great product. It makes acclimating fish/coral/inverts a breeze. I took the acclimate to my LFS to buy a new fish and hermit crabs. I asked the guy to put the fish and hermits in the acclimate. Once I got home, I attached it to the side of my tank and got the siphon started. I let the acclimate do its thing for an hour. Then I lifted the inner box out and dumped the fish and hermits into the tank. I was worried that the suction cups would lose it suction but they held onto my tank and did not lose suction. The overall construction of the entire product is good. Strong and sturdy acrylic. There are lots of videos on YouTube that review this product if you are confused how it works.

I know everybody raves about this, but my experience is less then thrilling. First of, the instructions are really complicated. I had to watch a YouTube video to figure out how to use it. Second, it only works if the acclimate is filled all the way to the top with the original water. That means if you bring home a bag with one coral/fish and you won't have enought water to fill the container. Also, what I didn't realize is that the water level of the tank and container have to match exactly since the siphon creates an equilibrium. I accidentially filled the container up right away with my tank water. I also don't like the suction cups. I would rather have a hang-on. I will still try to use this product and hopefully get some benefit out of it. But so far I am not impressed. Especially considering the high cost.

The cons are:
1. longer tubes would be better. They can be tough to work with on a large tank.
2. The screws in the back need to be tightened regularly to prevent leaks. To do this, you'll need a phillips screwdriver with a really short handle. Fortunately, I had one.
The Pros:
1. It works really well not just for slow acclimating, but for dipping coral, freshwater baths on fish.
2. You can just start it and go do something else for an hour and magically your acclimation is done.
3. It has a lid so stuff doesn't jump out.

no doubt that this is the best way to acclimate your specimens., the only problem I had was that the manual is not much help because it does not explain exactly how to use your reef Gently and I tooke a little time trying to understand how make it work ... another thing you should know is that when you are acclimating your livestock your reef gently has to be full of water to the top, otherwise you will not be able to start the siphon..
