A New Benchmark of Aquarium Circulation Pumps

The Diablo controllable Direct Current “DC” water pumps are the latest in variable speed flow technology and allows for refined control, enhanced performance and efficiency. The vast majority of circulation pumps available to hobbyist are alternating current "AC" pumps (the type of power that comes out of your wall outlet). Direct current pumps have several key advantages over traditional AC pumps. Most notably, you can control the rotational speed of the motor, thus electronically control water flow rates. DC pumps are also more efficient than AC pumps and produce less heat per volume of flow.

Now the aquarist can have full control of the water flow through their sump, filters or closed loop systems!!!

This controller allows users to select between six preset speeds indicated by six green LEDs. The controller also features a feed button. When pressed, the pump safely shuts down and automatically reactivates after 10 minutes. Press the feed button a second time to resume normal operation. Diablo DC pumps feature a true slow startup where the pump begins at zero RPM and ramps up to the full preset speed over a period of approximately 10 seconds.

The pump and controller are connected via a waterproof 3-conductor union. The detachable controller will allow for a simple waterproof union. The volute can rotate to change the pump`s output orientation in 90 degree intervals, meaning users can output water vertically (up or down) as well as horizontally.

  • 6 Controllable Speed Settings
  • Integrated Memory- Remembers its last setting after a power failure!
  • Convenient Feed Button
  • Efficient DC Current
  • Quiet Startup & Operation
  • Detachable Controller with Waterproof Union
  • True Slow Startup
  • For Fresh or Marine Applications
  • Two(2) years warranty on pump motor
  • One(1) year warranty on rotor
  • Adapters for 3/4", 1" barbed output fittings and 1 1/4" male threaded input and output
  • Can be used for external or submersible applications
  • 24V power supply (converts 100-240V 50/60Hz AC to DC)
*DC-3500 model is not suitable for external applications.

Note: THIS IS NOT A PRESSURE RATED PUMP. This pump is not ideal for second floor applications or to feed Beckett or downdraft skimmers where consistent pressure is necessary.

Quite Pump

This is a very quiet pump and I like that you can control the flow with a touch of a button. The slow startup is nice also.

Silent pump.

For DC-5500 I've only had this pump running for a week or two so time will tell how it does long term. I'm a little skeptical it will last because the housing is some really cheap plastic which is why I took off a star. I would however certainly buy it again. It moves the water and love the DC features. The most impressive thing is how quiet it is. I've owned several external pumps from the Reeflo dart, Pan worlds and noisiest pump ever the Gen X and this pump is by far the quietest. I have a Red Dragon 1500 that makes a tad more noise than this pump and they are known for being super quiet. The only way I can even tell if it is running is to put my head inside the cabinet. Also not pictured it comes with a nice basket to keep critters and stuff out of the inlet.

Moves a lot of water

Moves a lot of water and does so quietly and with low watts. Those are the good things. Is made of cheap plastic, has a squeaky base and the speed control buttons are hit and miss (actually, more like hit, hit, hit, hit, hit -- ah, finally). The pressure end is very difficult to get a dry connection on. Those are the bad things. It's a uniquely capable pump. Just wish they would add $20 to the price and make it out of better materials.

diablo 5500dc

I have a 100 gallon tank and was having problems with my first pump. The Diablo 5500 is awesome! It replaced a blowhole 1450 external pump. I was concerned about putting it in sump because of heat but it actually runs 2 degrees cooler. Having it in sump also gives me a lot of room in my cabinet for storage. It's very quiet, slowly ramps up and just as powerful! Happy Happy Happy!!

Diablo DC-10500 water pump

This pump fits the bill for me, this is a replacement pump and without mentioning the name of the other pump company far exceeds in performance. It's quiet with variable speed and compact enough to fit in a small space. It's not silent but close to it. This pump will allow me to add other equipment to the main line without loss of water pressure.

Great Pump

This pumps is great for large tanks, you can vary the output, and it starts up slow when the pump turns on, which avoids the splashing water an AC pump will cause when it starts up. The pump is not silent, but it is very quiet, it makes about as much noise as an mp40.
