In passive placement, i.e. behind rocks or under the substrate, it also I think I might explore the possibilities of using this medium as a plenum. It would prevent the accumulation of mulm and detritus in the water space under the plenum in a traditional Jaubert system. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
