Seachem

Seachem Reef Carbonate™ is a concentrated (4,000 meq/L) optimized blend of carbonate and bicarbonate salts designed to restore and maintain alkalinity in the reef aquarium. Calcium and carbonates are essential to all coral growth. If either becomes deficient, coral growth will cease, followed by a rapid decline in coral health. To prevent this you must provide carbonates (Reef Carbonate™) and calcium (Reef Advantage Calcium™ or Reef Complete™).

Used as directed, Reef Carbonate™ will not deplete calcium, magnesium, or strontium which usually tend to precipitate with increasing alkalinity. Reef alkalinity should be maintained at 3–5 meq/L (8–14 dKH). Alkalinity should not be allowed to fall below 2 meq/L. 500 mL treats 8,000 L (2,000 gallons).

Excellent Product

I have been using this product to keep a stable alkalinity on my nano aquarium and it works great. A little bit goes a long way and it is easy to mix the appropriate amount of this liquid in ro/di (or distilled) water and simply add it to the aquarium. I use this product in conjunction with Seachem's Reef Advantage Calcium and test the water once a week for both alkalinity and calcium, then adjust my dosage as needed.

Great product

I thought i'd share my experience because Seachem does just tell us exactly how to dose. I have Been using this on my reef for 5 years now based on good reviews. I dose reef carbonate, reef calcium, and reef complete with great success (i have reef magnesium and kent essential elements but dont dose them regularly). My system is at my business and I can't rely on anyone to dose on time. At first i would simply mix carbonates and calciums in make up water gallons (big mistake don't mix them together) So my solution...Determine how much water evaporates per day 2.5 gallons (give or take), So that's around 5 gallons jug every other day. I have 6 5 gallon contains (each one numbered 1 to 6). so once filled with RO water, container 1 has 2 capfuls each of reef complete/ reef calcium. 2nd container has 4 capfuls of reef carbonate. This has kept my system at a 430-450 and 9-11 consistently over the past 3 years of being away from my aquarium. My system is pretty much dosed based on evaporation which is way more stable then hand dosing. It did take me some time to figure out the best way to do this but my tank has been very stable since doing this.
