I switched from a hang on system to a sump and after reading reviews and watching youtube videos I decided to go with this skimmer. And I am VERY happy I did. Very easy to set up out of the box, it was in my sump and running within 5 minutes. I run it in the recommended 5 1/2 inches of water. Water level needs to be constant, so use of a baffled sump or auto top off is pretty much a must. Its very touchy with change in water level. It took about a week to "break in" and start producing the nice head of foam I was looking for. And now I can say without a doubt, this thing is a BEAST. It skims better than I ever could have imagined. And more importantly to my wife, IT IS QUIET! It makes ZERO noise. This skimmer is a little pricey, but worth every penny. Look no further. WIll be running Reef Octopus skimmers on all of my future builds!

Been running this skimmer for over a month now and have been very satisfied overall. Compact, quiet and produces quite a bit of skimmate. Have this on a heavily fed 38 gal mixed reef with 14 fish and find myself emptying and cleaning the large collection cup almost daily. My only complaint is that it took a while to get it dialed in to where it wasn't producing a watery skimmate.

I've had every skimmer known to man in 20+ years of reefing; ASM, Coralife, CPR, EuroReef, Tunze, etc. This one out performs them all. Takes a couple of weeks to break in but once tweaked it removes nice dark skimmate. The Bubble Blaster pump is amazing. The thickness of the acrylic is robust. I have a 60 gallon cube with a 15 gallon sump with divider and bubble trap. The performance in regards to it's compact footprint with the pump under the skimmer is a real plus+++. The only cons I have is that you need constant water level of 7-9" or you'll gets varied performance and it kicks out a few bubbles but I have a my sump set up with a bubble trap so that takes cares of both issues.

This skimmer works like a champ...very good footprint for size. Bubble Blaster pump does everything it says it does. Be patient with break in period...took me two weeks to dial it in.

This skimmer skims so much! I am upgrading from a Petco seaclone protein skimmer. This skims as much in a day as the seaclone skimmer did in a week. And this skim stinks, so I know its taking out gunk I don't want in my tank. One issue is the skimmer still has a big footprint, for me. I just have a little eshopps wet/dry model 75 sump and it just barely fits, but i made it work. Now my water looks clearer then it ever did and all the inhabitants are happy.

The Super Reef Octopus xp1000ss is by far the best skimmer I have ever had. Small space with big performance.
Plug and play or should I say plug and skim.

For the price and the size you cant beat this skimmer, small, quiet and effective it pulls some nice skimmate, I use it on my 75g reef without any issues

Wasn't to sure about this when I ordered it and recieved no operating instructions(only assymbly guidance), but after a quick email responce from Coralvue, I had the operating parimeters(8 inches water to run)and was up and skimming! I just moved into the refugium world and ditched my Tom Rapids Pro 3 filter(great filter for fish only)and I can't believe the skimming this XP1000 does. I have finally reached 0 nitrates with my new filter system and this skimmer complements the Miracle Mud substraight that I am using. Bravo Coralvue for a fine production in a small compact cone skimmer.
